Two 6870s are a much better choice, cheaper AND better. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/Radeon_HD_6870_CrossFire/22.html [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] versus http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_580/24.html
Yes, but you cannot do triple crossfire down the road, while the 580 has room to be expanded down the road.
I'll wait 2 months before judging. Always give time for driver updates, they can make a huge difference.
I am very happy with my 5870. I was close to getting a 480 GTX but the temperature and noise seemed to be horrid. Good thing Nvidia is improving on that. Still, I think that I will stick with ATI since the performance difference isn't worth the steeper price. See, a non-fanboy response. However, I do prefer ATI, but Nivida looks alright too.
When will the 580M be released!!? I want it in my notebook, NOW!
Wow this is bullshit I got my 470 a month ago.
Yeah, this really sucks. Nvidia should stop production for a good 3 years every time someone buys one of their cards.
When will the 580M be released!!? I want it in my notebook, NOW!
A 580M? That would warrant a brickbook if anything.
Heh, got a GTX 470 little over a week ago :v: Not that I mind though, you can max out everything as it is already with a single of any of the "old" top-notch cards. Then there's always SLI down the road when it comes to that.
To everyone that bought a new card recently (And is complaining about it): did you buy from EVGA? If you did, and provided they add the 580 to the step-up list soon, you can just send back your card for a full refund and pay the difference towards a new 580.

Newegg is selling EVGA's for $550, with a 10% off discount code. Too bad I live in California and have to pay a 10% tax whenever I buy from there :v:
You will still get a 1% discount :v:
The 260's have done any game Ive ever tried on full. Though.... I got 3 of them. [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4249868/PC%20Bilder/Lower%20reso%20version%20of%20GTX.png[/img_thumb] SLi Is win. Only game I haven't been able to do on "Full" yet is GTA4, For some reason it lacks SLi support and thinks I only got 1 card, and only runs 1 card. Hell, for a while the SLi went off for some reason, and I didn't even notice any difference in lag, Its a pretty awesome card. I'll probably stick with these for a while, until there's a card('s) that Is better while still being in a realistic price.
try an SLI enhancement patch via EVGA. you need to sign up to their site/forum to download it, but it's worth it. adds SLI to A LOT of shit either before nVidia does or when nVidia doesn't. for example, lost planet 2.
and which number would that be? [img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/a0989fa657664f2bea2b4158a4e89347.png[/img_thumb] in this example, as with just about all of the benchmarks in this thread, you see 580 and 5970. i'm confused as to what the hell you're going on about, to be honest. i mean i am legitimately perplexed. is the GTX580 not what is outperforming the HD 5970? and the benchmarks i asked for?
The fact you're basing the comparison on a card in development since March against a card that's been out for a YEAR. XF scaling on mature games is equal to or better than nV scaling, despite nV's faster turnaround on profile advancement, and off shelf enhancement profiles from EVGA or nHancer.
Yes, but you cannot do triple crossfire down the road, while the 580 has room to be expanded down the road.
Yet, at that point it will most probably be a more economical choice to get two 6970s or 7870s or whatever, Nvidia cards haven't delivered price/performance since the 8000 series with the possible exception of some X60 cards.
Yes, but you cannot do triple crossfire down the road, while the 580 has room to be expanded down the road.
Yeah, but then you have to figure in the costs of the nuclear reactor to be installed under your desk. I kid... for the most part.

Anyway the joke's been done to death, and these new ones don't pull as much (they still pull a bit though).
What I really want to see with Nvidia and tri SLI in the 500 series is a 560 card capable of more than dual SLI. If they can provide the kind of price performance the 460's did, with a similarly moderate power draw, low temperatures, and noise, while allowing more than just two cards, I could see a lot of people springing for it.
MSI, because the Cyclone heatsink is fucking cool.
This. Afterburner is also a nice bonus.

[editline]9th November 2010[/editline] if you were to dive into a pool right now would the water hitting your face turn into steam? [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] though i must thank you for providing the statistics, excellent to see them improving CF scaling. again, not patronizing.
Eh Ill wait till my GX2 cant even play games anymore.

So here we go in little words just for you: 1. Aside from Vapor chamber, big fucking deal. 2. The card he compares it to is still up to a hundred bucks cheaper, yet spanks the 580 in two other tests at least and doesn't require an nf200 to scale. Problem, nVidia? 3. It's pretty obvious who doesn't have a clue in this conversation:

where exactly do you find a 5970 for less than a 580? i can only find them costing more. beating in "two other tests at least" versus, what, 20 or so other tests doesn't mean anything. nf200? you mean any typical modern gaming SLI board? yeah well one would think that was a given. how is that an issue? "yeah that car is fast sure BUT YOU NEED TIRES HAH HAH" what? why do you keep going back to the vapor chamber? i never even mentioned it, and regardless i'm not exactly sure why that's even important - it's not like you have to buy that on the side or anything. how are they not comparative competition? because one of them is company X's newest series and the other is company Y's previous series, though still relatively new? they're comparative enough. one card has two GPUs: 5970 the other has one GPU: 580. they came out at close enough times to be entirely comparable and that's why i'm comparing them. plus, to reiterate, i'm not at all sure where you're finding such a cheap 5970, "up to hundred bucks cheaper" i only see one that's $50 cheaper, and then again not really as 580s are 10% off with a code right now and here are their 580 prices for comparison
Vapor
Maybe you shouldn't assume you're the focus of the conversation; secondly, the fist card you listed comes with e-filed rebate: 469 x 559, hmm; a mystery. We'll also skip the 10% discount being temp. Your concerns were pretty much addressed the first time, what you do or fail to do with the information is moot. Not even counting that newegg isn't the only reseller.
Wait, a 580 out performs a 5970? I'll take 2.
