• NVIDIA Moves into Direct Retail of Video Cards

Didn't work for ATI before, not going to work for them either. Simply going to piss off their vendors, which they're already losing. nVidia needs to get back to gaming and high tier TWIMTBP and vendor supports.
Pics of the card itself?

I hope this happens: -Nvidia sells mainstream/entry cards reference cards with average binning. -Vendors sell mainstream/Higher-end non-reference cards with better binning.
This is a Nvidia card that I have, came straight from the factory.
Fancy.
TRY AND GET A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!! YOU STUPID FUCKING BASTARD!! (He will get the reference :P) Btw I am in the market for a new card also so ill be watching this space.

That box art is awesome.
If it wasn't matte and the "eye" was of that Nvidia green I'd get a boner.
What. :colbert: It looks good. And I loathe Glossy black on anything I can touch. In fact I despise all glossy surfaces. In my house everything that is not on display will be Deep matte.
I'd be happy if they'd sell more stuff bulk(just the box, without fancy design), sure it's only a few $'s you save, but I don't buy computer parts to look at the boxes or the card itself.
I hope this happens: -Nvidia sells mainstream/entry cards reference cards with average binning. -Vendors sell mainstream/Higher-end non-reference cards with better binning.
You realize most of the profit margin from GPUs is in midrange, right. Leaving 2-Vendors with only high end offerings will cause them to go extinct, fullstop.
I like the idea, I've always hated gimmicky "TRIPLEXXX OCD" models that don't even need to exist, I've always wanted an Nvidia reference styled card. Don't forget guys, they've been selling the Quadro GPU's for years directly.
I like all of the people on the forums there that keep comparing them to 3dfx, wondering if the company is going to fail. :allears:
Mainly because Nvidia bought 3dfx. The GeForce series was built upon the bases of 3dfx's technology. (The GeForce FX series had some 3DFX in it).
I hope this happens: -Nvidia sells mainstream/entry cards reference cards with average binning. -Vendors sell mainstream/Higher-end non-reference cards with better binning.
no
What card is that, 9800 GX2?
Yes sir it is.
the problem is it's Best Buy, and they have been known to have really shitty prices on videocards. fingers crossed for nVidia forcing them to go lower than 3rd party manufacturer prices on sites like newegg [editline]05:00PM[/editline]
What. :colbert: It looks good.
yeah except it's a video card and will be inside your case so it's not like you're going to be fondling it or anything
Uhh, i dont know what you do with your computer, but...
Uhh, i dont know what you do with your computer, but...
Are you telling me that you reach into the case and start stroking components?
No, they're comparing 3dfx to NVidia because NVidia is selling its own cards like 3dfx did (which, in turn, was one contributor to their downfall.) Of course, this is an entirely different situation given the fact that NVidia still holds the majority of the market share while 3dfx was already hurting pretty bad when they made the deal.
.... Your info is a little out of date, there. nVidia still has a relatively solid chunk of the laptop market and a rather large hunk of mobile and almost all of the rendering segments, AMD has been soundly kicking their asses in every other segment hands down.
...Yet ATi only makes graphics chips for Nintendo's Wii and Gamecube, while nVidia's new chip resides in the 3DS... Interesting how Nintendo is double-dipping...
Yet ATI already scored the new Xbox contract and it looks rather likely they'll get the Sony contract as well, and nVidia's laptop share has almost completely imploded. nVidia's hurting a hell of a lot more than they have been ever before and their stranglehold on Mid range and laptop sales is gone. Two more generations of not being able to SHIP what AMD has SOLD is more than enough time to reverse the balance, even on their sacred ground of Quadro territory. Two of largest paprallel-process super computer contracts in history went to ATI last year, and that's never happened before. nVidia's place at number #1 isn't absolute by any means. As stated, two more gens of too late and also ran, particularly in the mid range market is more than enough to cripple them, particularly in light of their plans to essentially cut their own AIB partners out of the loop. 3 of the 4 largest AIBs that nVidia uses now sell AMD cards. It didn't happen by accident.

[editline]10:26PM[/editline] the prices they pay to nVidia or AMD aren't nearly as comparatively high as what we would pay for the same thing. reason being: volume. they get products at such a tiny percent higher than what it costs ATI and nVidia to produce because they're buying so god damn many of them.

Secondly, you clearly don't have a clue about render/parallel margins because they're a HELL of a lot higher than consumer markups. Thirdly, excellent jobs bringing up the margin thin-ness because because it's exactly why nVidia's getting spanked and they're losing AIBs and AIB exclusivity.
