Smaller manufacturing process means smaller parts and with the ever increasing diode size, they've quite literally doubled the number of transistors on the diode. On top of that, they've quadrupled the number of shader pipelines. If that doesn't make for a supremely faster card, I don't know what does.
I'm kinda doubting the benchmark results, one 295 overpowers a 4870x2, but this new card is a single and outdoes 2 295s?
Bad reading, Crossfire 5870's out do sli GTX 295. [editline]03:17PM[/editline]
Dear lord, I think I might buy one.
Seeing as the 5850 out-do's the gtx 285. It seems worth it. I'm going to get a 5870(2gb) model and crossfire later.
I'm still gonna either wait for the new nvidia cards or get a couple of 295s, because the 4870 I currently have is getting fucking annoying. The drivers that ATI made for it are shit. Oh and for the hardware I'm getting, I won't notice any difference because I'll get 300 fps in most games other than gta-I'mnotoptimised-4, core i7 hurrr.
^Like how? What's wrong with them? Also, a couple of 295s? Are you crazy? That's like, two times as expensive as the 5870.

Nvidia will release their GT300 series which will undoubtedly beat out the benchmarks seen here. Whoever released these benchmarks from under the NDA basically just fucked ATi. Nvidia now knows exactly how fast they have to make their cards and the price points they'll sell them at. Wow, I get sidetracked easily. But back on topic, once Nvidia releases the GT300 line, we can expect to see 295's go down as low as $350, maybe lower in time.
5850 you mean? $299 According to wiki.
Yeah sorry, thanks.
Also, I'd rather have good quality drivers than ati stuff that I'll just have problems with, I could probably play all my games maxed out with my i7 by using my shitty 8800gts.
Also, I'd rather have good quality drivers than ati stuff that I'll just have problems with, I could probably play all my games maxed out with my i7 by using my shitty 8800gts.
How the hell do you manage to screw up Driver Installation?? Or are you just a lame fanboy??
Also, I'd rather have good quality drivers than ati stuff that I'll just have problems with, I could probably play all my games maxed out with my i7 by using my shitty 8800gts.
Trust me, you can't. While it's true that ATi's drivers have been pretty inferior in the past, the acquisition of ATi by AMD has done nothing but improve the drivers since. While they don't offer the same number of features, they're just as stable. Even that aside, there are a lot more alternative drivers for ATi cards anyways. At the end of the day, ATi's cards are outperforming the current Nvidia ones even with beta drivers. You can actually expect to see a small gain in performance as the 5870's hit the shelves.

tempting

will there be an x2? if so how much will it be?
will there be an x2? if so how much will it be?
Yes. $600 USD.
Yes. $600 USD.
damn. well thats out of the question.
5870 is 399 not 299,
I think the main reason people are jumping on this is because of price. Every single ATi card is cheaper than the equivalent nVidia card. In exchange for cheaper prices you lost 5-10 fps depending on what game and settings. The cost/benefit ratio is much higher with ATi. Although that isn't to say that the 285 and 295 will drop significantly in prices once these pretties hit the market.
oh my fucking good god. ATi have taken back the crown.
yeah, but you don't know what NVIDIA's going to strike back with. They are not that dumb.
yeah, but you don't know what NVIDIA's going to strike back with. They are not that dumb.
I was making the same point earlier. Yes, it's great to have these benchmarks. Unfortunately because someone leaked these benches, Nvidia now knows EXACTLY what it needs to do to beat ATi in this run. If they make their cards just 5% faster than the equivalent ATi for the same price, which one are you going to buy?
they didn't leak them, ATI is preparing them for the next (few?) month release to stores. they want everybody hyped up.
they didn't leak them, ATI is preparing them for the next (few?) month release to stores. they want everybody hyped up.
 ATI is releasing them on Sept 22nd.
they didn't leak them, ATI is preparing them for the next (few?) month release to stores. they want everybody hyped up.
Leaked? Hah. The GPU's launch in a week. They've already given loads of them to tech sites for reviews and previews.
yupp boxes give my op them, so i'm organized
yupp boxes give my op them, so i'm organized
I have a few old ones lying around, Want one?
