Doesn't it seem a little pointless to buy a new card? Everytime we do, they release a new one that's even better, and then everyone runs off and buys that. I wonder how many people spend their parent's money on it.

Naw, after nVidia releases their, ATIs 'll hopefully go down and I can get myself a 5870EE...

If we didn't buy new cards then I'd still be stuck on an X1300 :saddowns:

Retail, and HDMI ports included finally.
Woah.
Does Eyefinity use display ports or HDMI ports? ...or something else entirely? How do you link up 3 monitors to one GPU?

Uh no, I don't think it's pointless. Normally I wouldn't buy a card for an incremental upgrade, but this thing here totally destroys what my 4870 can do. So I personally think it's going to be an awesome upgrade.
I don't use my parents money, either...I have a job (well a couple to be exact). As of now I can't afford a 5870 anyway, that's why I'll put in extra time over my winter break so I can pick one up for Christmas or something.
Well the prices will come tumbleing down..you looking at 2-4 weeks at least.

Agreed, why do they put stupid characters on them, why not an awesome geometric picture or something that demonstrates it's capabilities. Not that it really matters though in an ATX case.

I'd love to keep it totally blank... Just simple. Would look gorgeous through a case window like that too.
peel the stickers off, imo
Reference cards always look amazing, but then the manufacturers get them and fuck them up with their ugly futuristic shit.
i don't see why they have to, for example, i would be totally cool with something like
for example.

yet most of them go and plaster their horrible graphics all over it. goddamnit.

Often leaves a sticky white residue though, i tried it with my x1600xt once :(
That can be cleaned off, surely?

depends what kind of stickers they use
and there's always taking off the plastic part of the heatsink, submerging it in water, and then peeling off the sticker easily, drying it out and putting it back on.

Good point, good point :)
I'd do that now if needed, but back then i wouldn't have dared.
I just wish someone would sell them nice and plain... I love the mock-up of one up there by Asus ^
That ASUS mock up looks sexy.

funnily enough you both called it a mockup which was the original file i named it before it got tinyimgd. even though that's what it's called. just saying

It's not hard to clean off with a damp cloth.

you can get a spray from maplins that removes lables, it's p. usefull.
Holy shit, that SF4 benchmark is just obscene!
The hell is maplins?

Like Radioshack for the uk
VisionTek and HIS often sell the reference design without stickers. I think they put a small circular sticker on the fan.

You have to upgrade sometime. This gen is similar to the 7800 GTX when it was released. It almost doubled the peformance of the previous generation. If you're going to upgrade, Q4 of this year seems to be a good time.

My 8800GT has lasted me for 3 years, and I can still run pretty much anything maxed out, with 4xaa, which is good enough for me.
The only thing it chokes on is GTA4.
