My friend just bought a Pallet of Pentium 4 based computers (various makes, mostly dells and HPs) A pallet equals to about 60 computers, now we just have to get all of them in working order
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/caputure2.PNG[/img_thumb] Pentium 3-core2duo computers i have sitting around for some reason
The C2D machines-can you send at least the processors(no heatsinks required) and DDR2 RAM from them to me? My school is desperately trying to upgrade our single core Celeron D 2.8ghz computers we use for modeling and of course a C2D would make a massive upgrade. Since it's just the processors, shipping shouldn't be too much, I'll reimburse that plus $25(all the school can spare) for them. We REALLY need upgrades, and this would be a gigantic one! Also any hyperthreading Pentium 4's you have would be excellent.

The oldest thing I have is a dusty PC from 1998 or so The video card has a plastic heatsinc, and it's broken currently (Or I put it back in wrong) :gonk:
Real pros have forty beige computers.
Real pros have forty beige computers.
Why did they even choose that colour... Like okay guys from now on everything beige is high tech. offtopic : WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH ALL THE PQNY SHIT, I DON'T GET IT.
Real pros have forty beige computers.
It was cool to build my own Fort with them. But when that wasn't amusing anymore they were just kinda in the way all the time.

It's a cartoon done by some of the same people who did Powerpuff Girls, and appeals to people who watched cartoons in the 90's. It's really not that bad, but the first few episodes are p cheesy.
how does a plastic heat sink even work?
Well it's broken, so i assume they don't
So, I recently got into retrocomputing, somewhat as a means of attempting to develop my assembly skills further, and 'cause it's just fun. Some of it isn't retro, but here is the working salvage shit I've picked up along the way: one lot of 4 700MHz Coppermine Pentium IIIs, Celeron D 2.13GHz, Radeon 1650, Kaypro 2x, TI-99, and an Apple IIe that's still shipping. I'm still keeping my eyes open on ebay though, especially for TI-99 games. As for what I've kept over the years, Celeron E1400 2GHz, and a Radeon X1900.
Pentium 3-core2duo computers i have sitting around for some reason
Seriously, how much to take one of those off your hands? That is, if you're willing to sell em'?
Computer room circa 200...2, if I can recall. [img_thumb]http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/ballsandy/around%20the%20house/Dcp_0003.jpg[/img_thumb] Ghetto-ness is self-explanatory
It looks like you put a museum barrier around the place.
your school can only spare $25?
Yes :crying: [editline]23rd February 2011[/editline] It's not actually even the school that's supporting it, it's the computer room teacher :smith:
i haven't looked inside them in forever, but there are like 5 or 6 beige cases in my shed gotta look at what's in em if anything
Why did they decide beige was a good colour scheme?
Why did they decide beige was a good colour scheme?
cheap to make i guess
I guess nobody could make black for cheap enough. Also, I really hate the yellowing that occurs with beige cases.
Let's start with the thing that still gets actively used: Pentium 3 Dell Optiplex GX110. 256 MB RAM. Found it sitting out on the curb one day, took it in. Works perfectly fine - right this second it runs Slackware but I'm going to try out some other Linux distro on it. Now for my first laptop: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5733962/100KZ700/100_0116.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5733962/100KZ700/100_0117.JPG Oh fuck that first one's blurry. Oh well, still clearer than it would be with the flash off, for some reason. Anyway, that's a Dell Latitude CPx (don't ask me why they're both Dells). It's not working, but I think that's just because I toasted the power adapter or some shit. Finally, this thing: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5733962/100KZ700/100_0118.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5733962/100KZ700/100_0119.JPG Sun Microsystems CRT. "Native" resolution 1280x1024 but I always had it at 1600x1200. And that thing was fucking HEAVY when I moved it out of the way to make room for my (larger-screened) LCD monitor. [editline]23rd February 2011[/editline] If the pictures don't load try again in a few minutes
Why did they decide beige was a good colour scheme?
I think it was so that people wouldn't be distracted when using the systems. They wanted a plain colour for the equipment.
What's a good way to get a bunch of old computers for free?
What's a good way to get a bunch of old computers for free?
go to the local scrap yard or steal them get them from your grandparents or uncles and aunts
Most proud of this bad boy, the Kane Hawk 5000 Energy Usage Analyser It's worth approx £2,299. My dad still owns it from his old years working for the National Grid. The fucking thing needs y2k compliant software, it's that old What I can remember: Some Panasonic laptop running Windows for Workgroups for the soul purpose of connecting to the Hawk (looked kinda like this - I'll try and find it some day) iMac G3 Bondi Blue (tray loader) Acorn A7000 w/ RiscOS ZX Spectrum w/ 48k upgrade, microdrive unit / disks, bunch of tapes for it (literally a box full) Drawer-full of old HDD's (including 256mb of RAW STORAGE) Fucking metric tons of media & games What we used to have (sold / scrapped): Compaq i386 Amiga 500 I'll add more if I can remember it
I got around 6 pentium 4 computers and 2 pentium II's. My mom is forcing me to throw them away because i actually put all the parts ontop of the cases instead of in them :C
Do what I did and sell them [editline]24th February 2011[/editline] My mum made me get rid of 2 PC's and I got £180
I got a few Pentium I's laying around and some old ATI GPU's.
Okay, this is my personal PC: 256MB RAM AMd Athlon 1800 @ 1.53 GHz ONE CORE 40 GB HHD nVIDIA geforece 440 MX w/64MB GDDR memory I run XP on it and I play CS 1.6 on it followed by Crossfire....
I think I've got a GeForce 5200FX somewhere around here. EDIT: I bought it in 2003 so I could play Myst: URU
Too bad the nVidia vanta's (16mb each, i got 4) don't support SLI :C Anyone in/near The Netherlands that wants a Pentium III pc? It got a legit Win98 sticker/serial on it. It also comes with awesome case that has a door to acces the cd bays. It does have the most idiotic cooling evar, on the cpu there's just a heatsink, and in the back of the case there's a 92mm (Yea) fan with some kind of plastic lid that blows air in
