That's odd. I edited it because I went with the 5970 originally, but realized that we're discussing the 5870. An OC'd HD5870 will use around 250 Watts, which is perhaps the second one..? I don't know. Whatever I was smoking, I sure wish I had some more, :v:.
Nah even the Gigabyte super-clocked edition, with the core at 950MHz(up from 850MHz) only eats 37 more watts than stock clocks. Given the real-world benchmark from before, it'd top out at around 157W. Even with Furmark, it'd top out at around 190-200W. I'm talking about 1.050/1300 core/mem! Raised voltages and everything. But yeah..950's alright too.
I would like to see myself overclocking not as soon as the PC is built, but sometime later. I'll look at i5s. Sorry if this isn't new to anyone. It's new to the thread. Just a comparison of the performance of the 955 and the i5 750: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/109?vs=102
I thought core i5 had HT :frown: Oh well. Anyways. Don't spend more on a 1136/i5. You'd rather maximize your graphics than the processor if your objective is gaming.
i5s are 1156 not 1136
YEAH WELL. Screw intel for random socket names.
What no. Right now the top ones are 1156 and 1366 Then there's going to be like 1156 A B C D :psyduck:
There's 1366 and 1156.
Sorry i was being lazy
Laziness won't pass 500 days by :v:
You'd rather maximize your graphics than the processor if your objective is gaming.
That is exactly what my budget is saying. If I put a i5 into it I go over on my budget $163. Now I said before I could stretch my budget if need be but I think that's kinda pushin' it. With that said I would still love to overclock but I guess I could try to OC the 955 cpu and see what I get out of it; whether it be a substantial difference or just a little
The 955 will get to 3.7ghz on air, 4ghz with a non-reference cooler (most likely, anyways).
with a 650W powering an OC 5870? along with everything else? I don't want to have a bottleneck of power because of the PSU
You should be just fine. 2x 22a rails.
alright, good then. Wow this combo deal fits the budget (the final price):http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.405951
Dont get that combo, it's a ridiculously over priced motherboard. You could easily get a good mobo for 150$ less
Then there's going to be like 1156 A B C D :psyduck:
It's Socket 1155
God dammit i'm all over the place today
Dont get that combo, it's a ridiculously over priced motherboard. You could easily get a good mobo for 150$ less
can you find me one like that with USB 3.0 and SATA III? preferably one with 2 PCIe 2.0 slots

[editline]12:48AM[/editline] Wait... this is still an AMD build right?

[editline]12:48AM[/editline] Wait... this is still an AMD build right?
Yes still AMD. The motherboard is great and all but I need it to be USB 3.0 and SATA III like to future proof just a tad
Ohhh. Go for Asus M4A89GTD Pro same as above just a little pricier. I'm planning on getting one for my next build.
That's almost exactly what I'm looking for but not quite. It doesn't have USB 3.0. MSI has this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274 Although it's more expensive its got everything I want. and you were right(you said it was overpriced): The ASUS Formula IV compared to the MSI mobo above is blown away...IMO
You don't need the full pci-e 2.0 x16 slot for your graphics card to run properly. pci-e 2.0 x8 provides enough bandwidth for just about every card available currently. If you want to save money then get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157198&cm_re=asrock_am3-_-13-157-198-_-Product [editline]08:11PM[/editline] it has usb 3.0 and sata 6.0 :3:
PCI-E 2.0 x8 will reduce performance by 1% at most. That's it. Only problem I have with drummer's mobo is that it's not Gigabyte, MSI, or ASUS.
ASRock is a subdivision of Asus, if you look at an asus equivalent, the only difference is a 1 year warranty and a 4+1 vrm phase compared to asus's 3 year warranty and a 8+2 vrm phase. 4+1 is fine for normal/pretty high overclocking. 1 year warranty is your choice but I feel that the board would fail before that if something was faulty. it's pretty much an asus board anyway so it should be good.
Shay tech support is what I worry about.
Shay tech support? Also look at the reviews, at least you can see how many people have gotten doa or bad boards (and how it went with support)
Shady*.
