Is the Corsair 240GB Force Series 3 any good in comparison to the Crucial M4? The Corsair seems to have double the write speed of the M4. (I just heard what my IDE Maxtor HDD's sound like and holy fuck they need to be retired.)
Firstly, sequential reads and writes are generally not the primary reason one has for buying an SSD - the numbers you are mainly interested in are not listed by the manufacturer and can instead be found in reviews.
Secondly, they are both fast enough that you would not notice a difference - choose the one you prefer. The M4 has a slightly better reputation for reliability and should you happen to require a 7mm drive then you could possibly remove the spacer. If you don't immediately recognise the utility of the second point it is safe to ignore. Otherwise, just get what's cheaper if you don't mind: they are both, generally speaking, reliable enough for home use.

Cheers, now the issue is finding screws to mount the M4.
People usually don't have a problem with outdated operating systems until they try the new one and see how silly they were to stick with the old one. I switched from vista to 7 on my laptop and it actually runs a lot faster. :v:
I've used it all mate.
I will probably be forced to upgrade in the future, but THIS problem is for both Windows 7 and vista, so that doesn't help.
So Diablo 3 just released and i am unable to play. around 2-5 minutes into it the game will stutter and the screen will go black, graphic drivers crash and then some times the computer will just all out crash.
I have a HD6970 and im running on the 12.3 drivers. I've tried the 12.4 12.2 and even 12.1 drivers and they ALL do this. I tried running BF3 for a good hour and i had no issues what so ever.
Are you using 12.4a? Have you checked if it's overheating? Sounds like the driver's crashing. I'd run HWMonitor while it's playing to check, and going into the settings and set the max fps to 30 would most likely fix it if you're unable to fix the issue currently. Also make sure nothing's blocking the fan.
Not sure if right thread.
Does anyone know of a, decently priced, back fed printer that would print on chipboard?

My motherboard temps have been running hot, could insufficient ventilation be the problem?
It's probably just a broken sensor.
Turn your computer off and then immediately feel inside on the surface of the pcb right around the chipset and the vrm components, if it doesn't feel like, or near 86 degrees Celsius, just don't worry about it.
I'm having second thoughts on whether I should get the 3770k or not; I do video rendering and encoding time to time, but since I'm getting a GTX 670, couldn't I just save $100 and get the 3570k and use the GTX 670 for CUDA-acceleration in Premiere and After Effects? Someone help me out on this dilemma.
I got my hands on a capped, ancient-technology HP Compaq Presario shit box. It's equipped with a socket 939 AMD Sempron processor. 768MB of DDR400 ram that are mismatched brands. Integrated video.
I riced it out. It was so bare minimum, I decided it would be cool with a bit of dough to fix it up for normal 2012 web usage and old games. My girlfriend would be grateful.
Changed the 250w PSU to somewhat high-end Rosewill 500w spare I had lying about. Going to up the ram with this DDR400 Corsair XMS to make it 1GB. The case were missing fans so I attached an exhaust 92mm and intake 80mm. The problem is the videocard. I have this XFX HD 5550 just gathering dust and I plugged it in. Turns out this ancient board only supports the very first PCI-e tech. PCI-e x16 1.0 wow. My PCI-e 2.1 card isn't even willing to stoop to it's level and starts pooping itself at boot.
Now I need to find some PCI-e 2.0 card at Newegg. $50 is the way to go wondering if anyone knows a good manufacturer that are known for longevity? Might go nVidia since their cards at that price are faster than the AMD counterparts
Does anyone have recommendations for a 2TB HDD? It'll mostly be used for backing up large image and video files, with occasional playback.
i bought a new computer and naturally the only software is basic windows stuff
what should i download? i need all stuff that you guys would have on yours i.e.
VLC, winamp/itunes somekind of better photoveiwing software

Should I upgrade my GPU to the new 600 series?
Currently have a 560Ti
CPU is a i5-2500, should I also swap it for an Ivy Bridge CPU?

nnnope
ivybridge hasn't got nearly enough of a performance leap, maybe try offloading the video card for a little cash and buying something in the "stupidly powerful" range would be okay though; A 670 for example would be a perfect standalone gpu and would work happily alongside a 2500.

That's still a waste of cash though. Why not just save the money for when his current PC is obsolete?
because there would be significant enough a performance increase and this is probably just catching the tail of people who would still actually want to buy a 560.
But you're right, it would be smarter to simply hold on until you aren't satisfied with your computer's performance any longer.

Eh, yeah I'll probably end up doing that.
But what would be a good site to sell the GPU on if I wanted to? Just put it up on eBay?
ebay, amazon, local resale sites like kijiji and used<city>. That's your best bet, good luck. If you're using an EVGA model card or any other cards that use a reference PCB you may still be able to get a pretty good price on it
what's currently the best GPU for £200?
GTX 570

SOMETHING other than Internet Explorer (I use Firefox personally)
Pidgin (IMs)
Thunderbird (email)
foobar2000 and/or Spotify (music)
Photoshop (GIMP is also valid)
Either MS Office or LibreOffice
Either MSE or Avast
Dropbox
Steam
Python
all of which (except Photoshop) available on Ninite, linked above
What's a decent firewall? I'm tired of having to deal with Comodo's every time I run a god damn game.

I just have a router and the Windows firewall. You should be fine as long as you have adequate virus protection.
Anyone have any experience with the Z77 motherboards and know which one is the best? I wanted the P8Z77-V Pro but people are reporting USB 2.0 and BIOS issues with it, and my friend is recommending me the BioStar TZ77XE4; this could just be me being a blind biased fanboy but I just don't know BioStar enough nor ever used their board to trust on buying that certain motherboard.

They've been around from the 80's and used to be an OEM, they've only recently switched to the consumer market.
