Does anyone know if vilayers VPSes are any good? If not do you have some other suggestions?
WOT says no: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/vilayer.com/ I'm with BHost at the moment, no problems so far.
I bought myself one of the USB Wireless-N's (Asus USB N53 Adapter Dual-Band Wireless-N) to connect the WIFI that my cellphone tether outs (HTC Amaze 4G). While having my ethernet cable connected at the back, it seem to be using my home internet and not using the WIFI off phone. If I pull my ethernet plug from my computer, the WIFI connection gets limited access. Speed-Test proves that when I have ethernet plugged in and WIFI connection, it rules my ethernet connection over the WIFI even though the connection proves to be connected. PS. My cellphone WIFI is switched off, only the WIFI Hotspot is turned on.
Because in most cases Ethernet is the better connection.
Or buy a wireless card.
ah, okay. didn't know what those were called, seems simple enough. Thanks
Because in most cases Ethernet is the better connection.
I want it to connect to my WIFI, if i remove my ethernet.. the Wireless goes down as well. [editline]26th May 2012[/editline] Problem fixed, the DHCP was disabled...
Finally, are there any <$200(preferably <$160) Z77 motherboards which I should look into?
Assuming you're US/Canada, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293 is probably one of the best motherboards you'll find under $160. This one will do you well too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837 I just like the color scheme of ASRock boards more. [editline]26th May 2012[/editline] And there really aren't brands that make bad ram, so you'll be fine with whatever
Out of curiosity, how important is the GPU when it comes to video editing and rendering?

I recently bought one that had WiFi and Bluetooth built in. It's absolutely lovely.
Ok, so whenever I listen to music on PC, I get this crackling/static noise, it gets pretty annoying after a while. It's not my headset because I use the same one on my Xbox (I listen to music there too) and I don't get any static or crackling on it. My soundcard is an integrated realtek soundcard and the drivers are the most up to date, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled them but I still get that crackling noise. My headset plugs into a "Mix amp" type device and then it's connected to my PC via a fiber optic cable, and I've tried switching cables and plugging the headset directly into the audio jack and I still get that static.. Anyone know how to get rid of the static before I contact my headsets manufacturer's support?
I have a silly problem. There's a honking sound whenever I minimize/maximize a window with my headphones plugged in, why does this happen?
Are these RAM sticks still good/current or are there now better alternatives for less/the same prices? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_218_1125&products_id=16437 I don't think it should matter but this is for a Z77 motherboard.
Also can anyone help me decide on which motherboard is best: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H vs. Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H vs. ASRock Z77 Extreme4. They're priced at $200, $165 and $155 respectively. I would say the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H would be best for me but it only has 6 SATA ports and I will be using all 6 of them so it sort of turns me away. The ASRock Z77 Extreme4 looks okay but I haven't had any experience with ASRock products before and from what I've read on some forums most people tend to lean to Gigabyte. The GA-Z77X-UD3H looks pretty good too and has much more reviews available than the previous boards. This board however also has the issue of only having 6 SATA ports and is also much more expensive than the previous two. If it makes any difference, my primary use of them will be for gaming and while I have no plans of SLI/Crossfire or overclocking I would still like to have them as an option. I mention these because apparently the Gigabyte ones are good for overclocking and the Gigabyte boards only have one PCI Express x16 slots. Edit: Here's some links to the product pages I am using for prices: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=19861 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=19990 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=19867
Don't get the D3H in my opinion, it's basically a worse version of the UD3H. UD3H if you can afford the extra and don't mind booting quite slowly (My UD5H takes a good 10 seconds to start even booting, although I don't know if the 3H has the same issue.) I would go for the Extreme4, ASRock's latest offerings have been pretty sound based on reviews and comments I've read. No experience with them myself though.
I have around 255£ to spend on a graphics card. Any recommendations?
I have around 255£ to spend on a graphics card. Any recommendations?
Sort of in the middle. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-xfx-radeon-hd-7870-double-dissipation-edition-4800mhz-gddr5-28nm-gpu-1000mhz-1280-cores-dl-dvi-h or wait for 660 Ti
Gigabyte vs. ASRock
The reason you'll see people lean more towards Gigabyte is really just because of a biased opinion, as ASRock is fairly new. They broke off from ASUS a few years ago so they make good quality products.

Is ~60-65 degrees Celsius normal for an i7 920 under load?
are modular power supplies worth it? Because I was originally going to get one but my local micro center is offering a really good ocz 750w psu (non modular) for 60 dollars. it seems too good to pass up too. I'm also getting a corsair 650d and there's all those holes for cable management so I dont see it being much of a hassle, should I get it?
Modular power supplies are the shit. I have a non-modular, and I can't do proper cable management
Modular power supplies are the shit. I have a non-modular, and I can't do proper cable management
mine's fine [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/hkpSP.jpg[/thumb]
mine's fine [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/hkpSP.jpg[/thumb]
I have way too many unused cables, and I don't know what to do with them. :suicide:
i think ill buy it, i did this with my current case, took some time but its okay and the corsair has tons of cable holes so thats great
I remember when you fist posted your modded 300 forever ago, and it's still amazing.
yea, i gave the entire thing to my dad though, so it gives me an excuse to build a new pc. im excited
Is there any noticeable difference between x8 and x16 on PCI-E 3.0. I've read there's no major difference on PCI-E 2.0 but haven't been able to find anything specificly for PCI-E 3.0. I'd imagine it's pretty much the same case.

Not likely - it was rarely noticeable under PCIe 2.0. Even a x8 is a lot of bandwidth to fill, most of the time it's going to be underutilized. In both cases, though, it's arguably a major difference - a x16 has literally twice the bandwidth of an x8. (Interestingly, a PCIe 3.0 x8 has the same bandwidth as a PCIe 2.0 x16).
