How often do you guys upgrade your computers?
I'll paint a picture with my components:
Old build: E8400, 8800GT, EP35C-DS3R, 4GB RAM
New build: 3570K, GTX 670, P8Z77, 8GB RAM
That's a 4 years difference.
Can somebody tell me how can I change external HDD-s power settings to not turn off after 10 minutes or so?
Can't find the place on Vista / 7

Did you check advanced power settings? USB power management in Device manager? These are only places I could think of.
Does anyone know a good VPS host that offers locations like Paris or in The Netherlands (or something near those locations)? i tried Bhost but they host in London which isn't a great location for me.
It's about time for me to buy a new PC. All I need is to find good parts and make my parents pay for some of it.
So I was looking at some motherboards and found Asus P8Z77-V LK.
It has all features I probably need but I've got one question:

Would a GPU in the second PCI-E slot block one or both PCI slots next to it?
How do I increase the compression ratio on my .7z file? I have a 723MB file tree compressed down to a whole whopping 716MB

What kind of files are they?
Some files just do not compress well - some even "compress" to be larger than they were before. That's just an unavoidable fact of computer science.
Things like text files, documents, and uncompressed images (.bmp, for example) generally compress very well - it's common to see 100:1 compression ratios on plain text documents. On the flipside, anything that's been encrypted shouldn't compress well at all.

think you could wait a couple days?
I just received on of those in the mail and im waiting for the rest ofmy parts to get in. I can take pictures of it with a gtx 670 in one or all of the slots if you want

Since jpeg and png are already compressed formats, you shouldn't expect *huge* compression ratios, but that does seem a bit low.
Are you using the "Ultra" compression level, some other preset, or are you using some custom settings?

Alright, thanks. Since I have a PCI audio card and a PCI WLAN adapter I need to have both slots available.
Either that or I'll forget about SLI (in the future).
[editline]3rd June 2012[/editline]
Maybe the latter is actually a good idea. I never bought another card after I got my old PC, even though it was SLI ready.

I used "normal"
I used "normal"
Yeah, that would explain it.
Try using "Maximum" or "Ultra". It'll take longer to compress, might not even work if you don't have enough RAM, but you can get much, much smaller archive files.
What's a worthwhile upgrade from a GTX 560TI?
What's a worthwhile upgrade from a GTX 560TI?
I'd say to be worthwhile a 670, or a 79** card. Or, if you can run SLI I'd consider that as well.
What can I do about a "page fault in nonpaged area" bluescreen? It happens in safe mode as well, so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, but that's about as far as I got. Any help would be appreciated.

Fractal Design R3.
What are the cheapest PSUs that can handle a 6870 1GB and a Phenom II X4 975?

"cheapest" is not a value you want to look for in a PSU.
If someone in my network uses a P2P program, the whole network grinds to a halt, and the latency spikes to ~500ms, where does the bottleneck appear, and how do I more or less fix it?

whats the networks topology?
quite complicated, I will try and draw it.

Also, the connection I currently have is 20mbit down and 1.5mbit up

If it's anyone in the network, then anywhere after switch/router.
Possibly the connection.
Way to stop it? Stop using P2P, limit the P2P rate or give them their own connection.
Ok, well then I wonder, what would possibly be the problem if I have a LAN party, and everyone gets terrible latencies? Not enough bandwidth?
Getting a flash drive, please recommend something under 10$, thanks in advance for reading this.
This one is pretty good:

foobar or winamp
My external hard drive (after a move) started clicking and the indicator light was blinking fast. Now it might be the click of death, I really hope not due to the fact that I had a lot of old family photos on it. I left it on for a while now the indicator light blinks three times, pauses, then blinks three more times and repeats. Another thing is that I'm not 100% sure I have the right power supply going to it, but its DC12v, just like the HD is labeled. Could it being a different power supply (maybe) cause it to do that? Does the three blinks means something else? Or did I just fall victim to the click of death?
