Is there any laptop manufacturer besides Apple that can make a half-decent trackpad? That's basically the only thing preventing me considering getting another laptop for my next machine. My MacBook Pro's trackpad was so good for me, I was able to beat Portal and Portal 2 on it, no sweat. I've only used a few mid-end Windows laptops for any significant amount of time, and every single time the trackpad has been ass in a box. Dunno if it magically gets better at the high end, so I'm asking you guys.
ASUS make some good laptops but you're never going to beat Apple's quality. You could dual boot Windows on a MacBook Pro though.
I'm soon heading to uni and I need a new laptop for school stuff. The programs I will mainly use are Autodesk Maya, Photoshop, Steam and some games like Garry's Mod and Dota 2 and I can put out about $800 to $1200. Any suggestions?
I've had this problem for a while now, but facebook (and any redirect links to facebook) won't load at all on my desktop, but it loads perfectly fine when I'm using my laptop. It goes on an infinite loading screen (tried with FireFox as well) and just show the "This web page is not available" screen if I'm patient enough to wait for 2 minutes.
Anyone know what might be the problem? It could be the firewall or anti-virus, but I wouldn't know what to look for if that's the case.
Appreciate any help!
Dunno if this is the right section, but what is a good gamepad for general emulation?
If you already have a Playstation controller, you can buy a USB adapter for them.
best antivirus?

Nope :(
Something is wrong with my GPU. If I leave my computer running for long periods of time and then try playing a game, I get really bad performance.
The GPU usage rises up to 99% but I get only 5-10 FPS.

Only a reboot fixes this.
Could it be a driver problem?
Sounds like the graphics card is underclocking itself when it is not being used, check the core and memory clocks
Is 5400rpm enough for a 2TB external hard drive? I found a deal on one for 600SEK (85-ish USD) and I wonder if it's worth getting. It runs off USB 2.0

Most likely. A 5400RPM drive normally reads at 40-60 MB/s, which is close to what USB 2.0 can handle.
Just don't try to use it for much random-access stuff. I assume you'll be using it mainly as a backup or long-term-storage drive, not as primary storage or anything - it should work just fine at that.

Why is my system using 51% cpu?
It's kinda been like that all day and entire cpu usage is around 60%

Viruses cause this. Pro tip: Restart

No such thing as the ' Best ' just some that are seen as better then others:
MSE or Avast! used in conjunction with MBAM is a pretty good set up
So I was looking for a new GTX670, but apparently I would need at least a 500w PSU, but I currently have a 450w one (XFX, so no IED PSU). I have calculated that my system uses about 400w if I were to put a 680 in my system. So, basically my PSU is going to handle this just fine? Also, my PSU has one +12v rail at 36A, I don't know if that helps.

It should be fine, running my 570 OC'd with absoloutely no problems at all at 500w

A 5400RPM drive can read much faster with that. My 2TB green drives actually could write around 90MB/s I believe. USB2.0 is fine, but the RPM won't matter on USB2.0 it will be slow anyways.
Does anyone know of a good program I can use to put shit on my iPod besides iTunes? I really don't want to fucking use iTunes.

MSI make some pretty good laptops from what I've read.

A quick look and this seems good, GTX660M and the i7 will easily run most games and high end software smoothly

I answered you a few pages back when you asked this the first time..

Thanks, but it's in the very very upper bracket of my budget, is there any way to drag it down? It's not necessary for me to be able to play games as I will most likely just model and browse the web with it.

Try using Avast, MSE and MBAM to hunt it down.

Right click taskbar>System tray>Modify (or something along those lines)> then make sure the volume icon is set to display and not hide.

I was afraid so. The main thing I was looking for was a beefier GPU than Apple gives me and a half-decent trackpad. I've been running a dual-boot on my MBP for a long time now, but I accidentally ripped the SATA cable in half while removing the hard drive (those things are fragile as hell when you're on your sixth cup of coffe, 53 hours of awakeness, and the pressure of Lady goddamn Gaga bearing down on you.), so I was figuring it was time to retire the old girl. I've been having major heating issues, I think one of the drops I've done on it unseated a couple of the heatsinks, and I want more than a 9600m GT and Core 2 Duo. However, I also wanted to wait until the next revision of MBP's with their supposed Retina displays, so I was hoping for a decent laptop I could actually use daily in the interim. But I guess I'll just stick with this POS $200 refurb Acer for now. Athlon x2 and Mobility HD 4250 all the way!.... to a garbage dump.
On a related note, I can install Apple specific utilities by putting my OSX disk in a Boot Camp'd Mac. Can I get similar things like better-than-Acer brightness and volume controls and a better function key arrangement if I do the same with this laptop?

If I understand what you're saying correctly, then no.
Since the hardware interface is likely different for a start.
Then you have the fact that bootcamp is essentially virtualised, hencewhy stuff can run on the mac.
Well, I'm tired of the Mac I got from school and I think it's about time I got a good portable machine.
So I'm looking for a laptop I can work with video and graphics on, so it best have 4 or more GB or ram.
I'd also like to play games on it, so a decent graphics card would be good, I have no specifics long as I get 60 FPS on most modern games.
My budget is roughly $1 650. I'd love it if some Facepunchers had some options so I can start looking through 'em. Aesthetics do not matter. I've been looking at Asus G74SX personally, are there any better options for me?
Compared to the ASUS this has better specs all round for the same price

There's a whole catalog of these laptops so maybe take a look there too

If you're looking at the G74, you may as well look at the G75. Only difference is going from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge and from Fermi to Kepler. Same price, same specs on everything else.
I've ordered one myself. However, I will have to warn you that I'm having all kinds of trouble with them. First there were manufacturing delays, it took weeks for the distributor to get any of them in. Then the one I got turned out to be dead on arrival; still waiting on the replacement.
While I still like Asus themselves (my previous laptop was also an Asus, and it worked perfectly; and I probably just had bad luck getting a bad one), I will say this: DO NOT BUY FROM HIDEVOLUTION. They do not have their shit together AT ALL.
