You are not getting the speeds you are "paying for" because that's not the guaranteed speed. Take a look at your ISPs website and you'll see the guaranteed speed in the fine print.
guaranteed speed is 125kb/s I don't get it though friend has even further exchange get's 1.5mb/s or so DL on same plan
guaranteed speed is 125kb/s I don't get it though friend has even further exchange get's 1.5mb/s or so DL on same plan
Internet usage? Old or new router?
new router also I'm pretty sure that's not the problem internet usage is fresh, just reset a few days ago, no way I wasted 200gb, and if I was capped I'd be going 25kb/s
new router also I'm pretty sure that's not the problem internet usage is fresh, just reset a few days ago, no way I wasted 200gb, and if I was capped I'd be going 25kb/s
Okay that is really odd...
I have a similar issue with my secondary setup, for me it's known why it does it. It is the monitor, I've got some bad capacitors in my Dell 2408WFP and it causes the computer to flash on and off when first woken up from sleep, sometimes it doesn't even turn on. Once the monitor has been on for a while it warms up and works fine. If I were you I would try a different monitor before buying a new GPU.
Problem is, sometimes this happens even if the monitor is already in use. I actually have two computers plugged into it - an ancient Athlon 900 shitbox, plugged into the VGA port, and the Mac Pro plugged into the DVI port. The shitbox, being so old that it's actually beige, doesn't support power-saving modes. So it never sleeps - it's either fully on, or fully off. There have been times when I have both on, then go get up for a snack or something. The Mac auto-sleeps, so when I come back, it's usually in sleep mode, and the monitor switched over to VGA when the DVI feed shut down. But - here's the important part - the problem with the blank screen on wake can still occur like this. Ergo, does not seem to be the monitor. Besides, I kind of need to upgrade the graphics card on this anyways.
gman003, care to help me out? you're good (understatement) at this stuff. I don't know what type of cable I have and I want to use a CAT cable since that (to my knowedge) mightr be limiting my speeds.
gman003, care to help me out? you're good (understatement) at this stuff. But: The cable from your router to your computer (which is what I think you're talking about) should not limit your actual Internet speed. Even the slowest 20-year-old 10BASE-T Ethernet will run at 10 Mb/s. More likely it's 100BASE-T 100Mb/s Ethernet (possibly even Gigabit Ethernet, but that's not too common in home usage).
You can try Soluto if oyu don't want to edit the things yourself.
I never mentioned not wanting to have a go at editing things myself, I just don't know what else I can do. I've used msconfig to stop everything from loading on bootup, I've run disk defrags, I've cleared up extra space on my hard drive, I've done everything I can think of that would be making it take so long to load up, my dad's computer boots faster and it's about seven years old. I wasn't trying to sound ignorant or unwilling to have a go at editing things myself, I just can't think of anything else I could mess about with to try and speed it up.
You realize that msconfig is kinda the worst place to check? Anyway, download Autoruns and check what's set, alternatively check all Autorun locations manually. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
nobodys answered this yet can someone explain to me why these two (almost) identical cards have a $30 price gap? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132014 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=essence%20stx Edited: i watched the video and it seems the stx card is aimed toward headphone users. I have some really nice monitor speakers that I use always, so I want a card that'll be able to use their full potential. Does it matter if the cards aimed for head phone users? i have both pci and pci-e available
Toslink to 3,5mm? You realize that those are like 2 different universes? Not to mention that pluging something into anyhting via vga is pretty dumb as well. You could however use chinch to 3,5mm because, you know, those are both analog.
Xbox only has the option of HDMI or VGA when it comes to outputs that will connect to a monitor. If you don't have HDMI, you're using VGA. Not dumb. Though everything else you said was right...
You have monitor speakers. Why the fuck would you buy a soundcard. Also those cards are probably fro Digital Surround. (Links are broken) [editline]30th June 2012[/editline]
Xbox only has the option of HDMI or VGA when it comes to outputs that will connect to a monitor. Oh yeah sorry I just remembered that those are the studio thingies, I find the name so goddamn misleading.
whats the difference
One is $30 more. Other than that, I don't think there *is* a difference - they may just have listed the same card twice. It happens.
ok, and even if theyre aimed at headphone users, itll still sound good on monitors, right? or should I go for a different soundcard? Because earlier I was looking at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829271007&Tpk=claro%20ii
So yeah the 169 one has Digital Surround and seems to have more interfaces. Jsut go with that one since it's PCIe unlike the other one, and the specifications for it seem good: http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_Essence_STX/#specifications
alright cool, nobody gave me a specified answer and just said get that one, thanks!
ok, and even if theyre aimed at headphone users, itll still sound good on monitors, right? or should I go for a different soundcard? Because earlier I was looking at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829271007&Tpk=claro%20ii
I've sound tested the HT Omega versus a slightly older Asus Xonar. Unless they've completely reversed their sound tech, the Omega is about a thousand times better than the Xonar. We use the Omega on our HTPC to drive our surround sound setup with significantly higher quality monitors than yours(no offense, just giving you all the info) and it sounds magnificent.
How do you know you have someone on your network? Also, that's not RAM... As for your space problem, download http://windirstat.info/ It shows you what's taking up space on your drive. [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] Try a different AV like avast. MSE has pretty bad detection rates. [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] Oh, and those two aren't even related...
I meant internet speed.
What makes it better? And how's the software that comes with it? Because I was gonna initially get a creative sound blaster but I heard the drivers and software were absolute crap so I opted out. I really wanna make the right decision on a soundcard so I wanna the most info as possible
What makes it better? And how's the software that comes with it? Because I was gonna initially get a creative sound blaster but I heard the drivers and software were absolute crap so I opted out. I really wanna make the right decision on a soundcard so I wanna the most info as possible
The bass drivers and midrange are magnitudes better than the Xonar, the high range is about the same, if not a little bit better. The software is acceptable, about on par with the Xonar's. Creative's drivers are so bad that there are more people using third party drivers than the ones that come with it [citation needed].
Also, does the input (or whatever its called) matter? Like pci vs pci-e? Because the omega is pci and the asus is pci-e.
Also, does the input (or whatever its called) matter? Like pci vs pci-e? Because the omega is pci and the asus is pci-e.
Well we have the PCIe version of the Omega, but it really doesn't matter, audio cards don't use enough bandwidth to saturate more than a PCI slot. [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] Hell, we still use PCI-X acceleration cards for our secondary editing machine.
Also, does the input (or whatever its called) matter? Like pci vs pci-e? Because the omega is pci and the asus is pci-e.
Go with whichever has more ports, or whichever slot is in the better position on-mobo(usually PCIe x1)
It's getting to the point where I should probably get a new CPU cooler... Anyone got experience with Corsair H60/70/80/100? I'm getting the H80 (i7 920), I'm pretty sure.

Either one will work with speakers (assuming the speakers can be connected to it oc)
Closed loop coolers suck. Get a D14 instead.
According to benchmarks, the H80 performs equally to the D14.
