I have a spare boxed 8GB I haven't opened that you could have for cheaper, assuming it's possible to ship.
I've owned a powered 1TB WD for a few years now and it works perfectly. [editline]5th July 2012[/editline] I've had a bad track record with Seagates, though.
Seagates are perfectly fine now. Hell now they also make the Samsung F3s that everyone goes around recommending. 7200.11 users need to get over it already, it was 3 years ago and Seagate fixed the drives while keeping user data intact. [editline]5th July 2012[/editline]
Can anyone recommend me a good 27inch monitor? I have an older 27inch iMac that I'm selling off to help fund a new computer. The one thing that I'll really miss is the screen, which I absolutely love. I looked online and found out that buying an Apple display alone costs $999... which I would rather not pay just for a monitor. Anyone have any suggestions?
Depending on your standards for backlight bleed you could order one of the 27" 2560x1440 panels from Korea. They use the same LG panels as the Cinema Display. Just for example you can get one that is "pixel perfect" for around $350. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Perfect-Pixel-27-inch-New-Potalion-2710QW-2560x1440-WQHD-Quad-HD-Monitor-/140757463601?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item20c5cc7231 If you want something with more guaranteed uniform backlighting and a local warranty you could check out the S-IPS HP ZR2740W which runs for about $750 here in Canada, but I've seen it as low as $650 on sale. The Samsung S27A850D PLS monitor is also apparently a good monitor and it also goes for about $750 here. I'd imagine they'd both be cheaper in the United States
I have been looking to buy a new laptop because my one was a quick buy and an immediate regret. I want to buy a laptop around the 600-700 euro mark, and I want it to be able to play games decently. Not a gaming machine like maxing everything out but it would be nice to be able to play every game out at the moment. I'm in Ireland so I am a bit limited for choices but I was looking here: http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/catalog/zkb_02pc/02_noteboo/default.aspx At any of the Asus laptops. Some of them have a 610M in it so it might be okay? Just wondering which you guys would recommend would be good!
I think a 640M or a 650M would perform better in games, also I would suggest looking at processors too, because if it has a less powerful CPU, it won't run games very well regardless. I think an i5 would be a good dual core to look at, and if you really want a quad core the i7, probably above 2 Ghz.
Man;36626868']So i want to try out the Windows 8 Release Preview but i don't want to start fresh, what i mean by this is i want to clone my current windows 7 disk onto another hard drive and then upgrade that one to windows 8 so i still have all my apps, games, music, Etc. Is there a way to do this, if so how would i go about doing it?
Anybody know?
Man;36640508']Anybody know?
My advice, don't bother, Windows 8 is just a worse Windows 7 with less compatability and useless features that don't add up to a better operating system, it's a wasted effort. Just wait until it's properly released, and even then it looks to be shaping up to be another vista (i.e. shit).
You won't find a monitor with that resolution for less than $900 usually
He didn't even mention resolution :v: But yes, 27" monitors are usually very expensive. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
Man;36640508']Anybody know?
I say go for it, loving it so far myself. Very lightweight compared to my installation of W7
tough words from someone who's obviously never used Windows 8
I went through the trouble of re-formating just to try it out, thinking I could use it as my daily driver, but it was just a waste of time because not everything was fully compatible and I found no reason to keep it. I don't see why you'd want to use a preview for everyday use.
You must have used the developer preview or something then, because I've had no problem using this as a primary operating system.
It was the developer preview yes, think I may be confused, I didn't even know there was a release preview.
It was the developer preview yes, think I may be confused, I didn't even know there was a release preview.
You were really far behind. There has since been a Consumer Preview, and at the beginning of June, a Release Preview. There has been a TON fixed since then.
Man;36640508']Anybody know?
Just plug in both hard drives and use any disk clone utility.
my computer kept bsod'ing last week, and ultimately i wasnt even able to enter windows (even in safe mode) i looked up things on google and found some people had the same issue, it was a memory problem. As a solution, I proceeded to take out each piece of ram (4 x 4 gb) and try each piece in every slot on the motherboard and boot it. so i did sixteen configurations. They all I worked, so finally, I just put all the ram back in and its been working fine. There has been an occasional freeze where I have to manually restart it, but that has been twice. I'm beginning to wonder if it's my ram or my motherboard. Thoughts?
following up on this, I ran memtest86 on all the ram and on the final piece it detected 2 errors. Even though thats not much, I'm guessing that's what was causing the freezing and blue screens. thoughts? time to rma the ram?
How the hell do you use motherboard built in RAID?
following up on this, I ran memtest86 on all the ram and on the final piece it detected 2 errors. That's almost certainly what caused the BSODs.
well atleast corsair has a good warranty, i hope i dont have to send back all 4 modules though
well atleast corsair has a good warranty, i hope i dont have to send back all 4 modules though
I've had an issue with one of my XMS3 sticks and they replaced it without me having to send it back at all, arrived within two days too, great service.
also, dumb question, but, im filling out the rma page and it asks for the module version number. which number is that exactly? I have a picture if necessary
Do anyone know how to definitively disable some process in the computer? (that would not appear next time I boot up) ASUS (N53SV) laptop user here, I would like to get rid of useless things that would slow down my computer.
Do anyone know how to definitively disable some process in the computer? (that would not appear next time I boot up) ASUS (N53SV) laptop user here, I would like to get rid of useless things that would slow down my computer.
Run -> msconfig -> Startup / Boot tabs.
Is a rattly CPU fan gonna have negative consequences to the durability of my CPU? It only rattles at sub-1000 RPM, but i can feel the whole case mildly shaking under it.
Your CPU doesn't have mechanical parts, but it will probably damage the heat paste, just fix it tighter?
Is a rattly CPU fan gonna have negative consequences to the durability of my CPU? It only rattles at sub-1000 RPM, but i can feel the whole case mildly shaking under it.
More like the fan itself.
Personally, I'd just throw your own together. Buy a internal HDD of whatever size. Buy an enclosure. Bam, external HDD. They literally piece together in one way and one way only.
I'm actually considering doing this! If I wanted a USB3 enclosure, how much would that cost roughly including a 1TB HDD? [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] Actually, scratch that. I just looked up prices and whatnot and I have concluded that it would actually cost more to create your own beause of recent Swedish HDD laws.

What is a good joystick to get? Sturdiness is the priority, but ideally it'd have as many axes of rotation as my current Saitek Cyborg X/FLY 5 has i.e. lots. This one's falling apart after only light use :/

It's also got yaw on it too. Question, buy a few GTX 670's now, or wait till september using some placeholder gpu's and wait for big kepler?
Will something that is compatible with Sandy Bridge work with Ivy Bridge? I think the video on newegg said yes, but I want to be sure.
