How much years do you guys think my Geforce 9800GT will last/should be replaced?
Upgraded mine a couple of months ago, you should do it ASAP if you want to play the latest games
as surprising as it sounds after enabling V-sync on ArmA 2 all the other games seem to no longer have black lines
I had the same problem sorta (weird tearing and lines on TF2) and Vsync solved it
glad I helped!
Is Nvidia/AMD going to come out with a new laptop GPU series by the end of Q1 next year?
So the build i got from 600€ in 2009 will only last 3-4 years. :(

Anyone know how to fix this without rebooting
It has been haunting me all day, especially because the clicking point is not where it appears it should be
Try changing the cursor to something else and then back maybe?
Would love some feedback on the overall components I chose to upgrade with soon

Is the Current Sector Pending Count at 100 is a bad sign?
EDIT: Fuck this I'm backing up my shit.

Any partition software that will allow me to extend the size of this partition? I tried using Aomei Partition Assistant but I needed the full version to merge the C: with the unallocated spaces.
EaseUS will extend just about anything I think.
[editline]2nd September 2012[/editline]
Wait you want to merge C: with unallocated space on a completely different part of the drive? That won't work like that.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to do. So what can I do then?
I'm trying to move all my files from Windows 8 RP to RTM. Will I it help late when I delete F: ?
Well, unless someone knows of software that can actually *move* a partition around on the drive, you're pretty much SOL. Partitions *have* to be contiguous - you can't just "merge" two unconnected partitions; you would have to somehow move the one with data to the front, then extend it.
I know of no software that can do this.
So say if, I move the System Reserved data [If possible] to somewhere else, then delete the partition it was on, would I then be able to use the unallocated space that was next to it to extend C: ?
Possibly. The partition could certainly be extended backward, but I'm not sure how well NTFS handles that. You might just trash your filesystem.
Honestly, I think your best bet at this point is to copy all partitions over to an external drive, then recopy them back to the original in whatever order you want.

I know EaseUS can move partitions, but I don't think it can do it with multiple. Also, you could make a virtual partition to extend it, but that's dirty.

Aha, you're right! I've managed to move and use 30GB of unallocated space to expand C: , once I'm done moving all my files I can do the rest.
Thanks everyone, sorry for flooding this thread with my blatant ignorance.
Hey guys I'm thinking of getting some new earbuds and I want some ideas. Could anyone suggest a good pair. Im looking for a pair with a microphone+3 button controller. Flattened or non-tangle cables are preferred too. Im in the 50-60 range. Thanks guys.

Looking for a Laptop under £500 that is pretty powerful, perhaps to run source engine at max, and good enough to actually run most games out there even at minimum.
Been scouring the internet and found this:
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_V5_Windows_7_Laptop_NX.M2EEK.003/version.asp
Seems pretty good, notebookcheck says that the GT 620M is better than an HD4000, runs source well, and also the i5 3317U offers some pretty solid performance. My only slight worry with it is I've read that Acer don't have great build quality. My Dad bought an Acer a few years back and it was a hunk of shit. Don't know if they have upped their game now though.
EDIT: Well, their website has definitely reassured me of their quality....

I'd like a new Kepler card, but the current ones are a tad too expensive. Is it worth waiting for a price reduction, or should I wait for 7xx to roll out?
Friend asked me to find him a laptop for gaming, I'm well aware that they're not the best and I'm trying to convince him to get a PC instead, having trouble finding a decent laptop for £900 though, was looking at this after I saw deano's laptopsdirect post. Though I'd like a second opinion, would rather not let a friend spend £900 on crap if it is crap, laptops aren't my best area but unfortunately for me I'm known as the computer guy at my school.

Avoid Asus laptops - they have the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Seriously, by the end of the fourth month I was threatening to destroy their entire country.
I've been told Sager is better - the NP9170 seems to be around your budget, assuming they follow the conversion rates (£900 = $1400). Or you could take the base NP6370 and upgrade it a bit.

My computer keeps doing this at random times, and it lasts around half an hour.
It gets extremely laggy with anything. What makes "system" use all my resources?

Heh, yeah it was your horror story of Asus support that made me try to exclude them from what I was looking at, I figured maybe one of their non-gaming laptops may be a little better, I guess support is across the company as a whole though.
Jesus I hope you're right about the conversion rate, dropped Sager an email, would there be any issues with charging the laptop though? Different socket voltages etc?

Worst-case you could just get a UK->US power adapter - they're like $20, worked fine when I visited England. You might even be able to get away with just using the regular adapter - every power brick I've examined has said "Input voltage: 100V to 240V". Since they're dropping it to 12VDC anyways, I guess the input voltage doesn't matter so much.
Hopefully there's some sort of "Sager UK" shop that sells the right hardware (and uses the right currency).
Will using a cheap SD Card reader give me bad results?
Not really. Worst-case, it's a bit slower, but you'll be bound by the slow speed of an SD card no matter what.
I remember using an el cheapo sd card reader and every once in awhile everything would go corrupt and things would load at an unbearable rate. I think it's because of the device I was using though. Just making sure.
I have a monitor question, for people who've been using dual monitors, particularly a combo of widescreen/5:4 screen.
I've been using a 19" LCD at 1280x1024 and a 19" CRT at the same res. Well, the CRT finally blew out after all these years. I've become addicted to dual monitors and happen to have the cash to get a new monitor but I'm not sure what's best. Should I go with another 19" 5:4, for the symmetry between the dual monitor setup or go widescreen, and have two different sized monitors?
I'm mostly concerned that using two different sized monitors will wind up causing me to mainly work on the widescreen and not get full use out of the 5:4.
5:4 at 1280x1024 is extremely outdated and something nothing is optimized for anyway. I would definitely recommend going 16:10 or at least 16:9 as well as a higher resolution, buying such old stuff now would jsut be silly.
