okay. Well, I did that, but I still have this problem where STALKER: shadow of chernobyl causes my computer to bluescreen when I try to load a save or a new game, or when I try to verify my game cache.
Hardware issue, talked to a friend who is a STALKER expert. I would do what gman suggested.
Well, I just ran chkdsk, it didn't give me any sign anything was corrupted, and it still bluescreened when I tried to verify the game cache. I really don't want to send the laptop back for diagnostics and repair, because 1) it only happens with STALKER, and I don't know whether or not it was the 200+ missing files that contributed to the problem with Tribes yet, as my connection is shit and I don't want the download to slow down my interneting. and 2) I'm afraid the problem might be with the hard drive, which would mean having to spend days redownloading and installing all the shit I got on my laptop.
Is a Pentium G860 good enough for Adobe softwares (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver) and 2D animation softwares in every day use, or should I aim to an Intel i3/AMD A10 APU at least?
It's only for artistic and technical art stuff. No 3D rendering and anything
What's a good free or cheap video editing software?
Does anyone have a Sony Vaio Laptop, Series S? I was looking into it and wondering if anyone has a user opinion and whether or not it is a good buy. Primarily going to be used for school, thinking about the sheet battery accessory, might play GW2 every once in a while in my room. Alternatives are nice, not wanting to buy a mac.
Course! I actually plan and yes its possible to create a rig out of that but you may wanna include a lightweight GPU into that. Just for the record. They are able to play most high intense games, (most will do 30-50 with good GPUs) so ruling them out of anything is just plain ignorance, course you could get an APU but G860s are capable.
I don't really plan on creating a gaming build or something, it's just going to be a simple workstation (in a SFF/Mini-ITX case) that will only use the iGP.
I'll probably wait a bit, until the new APUs will be released and see their reviews, to have a proper idea.
I am looking for a new boot drive since every other hard drive has died on me in the past 18 months.
I am considering going to SSD. Is the Samsung 830 SSD a good option or is there something decent at a cheaper price. If you can, link to Amazon.co.uk products since I am Ireland.
I am currently running on a 500GB 2.5" laptop drive and it's dying on me. Thanks in advance!
Just a update. The drive died - Now, I have to wait till Tuesday before I can order a new one.
Also, nehkz, that OCZ drive that you linked can't be shipped to Ireland, so I am going to go for the Samsung 830 128GB. Thanks all the same :)
Glossy or Antiglare Macbook Pro Screen?
Quick question here; I recently took a quiz for one of my secondary classes in my Social Media course and I missed a question that I thought was fairly straightforward.
The question was something to the effect of:
"Which of the following image filetypes can be edited indefinitely while still retaining its original accuracy?"
I got the choices of "JPG, TIFF, PNG, and for some reason PDF.
I knew PDF and JPG were out of the question, but aren't TIFF and PNG both lossless extension? This had me confused, and I should have picked TIFF to be safe anyways, but I chose PNG because as far as I know it can be edited as many times as you want without any compression-related degradation. Am I wrong in this assumption?
To note, I did just fine on the test and this incorrect answer didn't affect much anyways, but i want to make sure I don't have a skewed understanding of these extensions. Thanks.
If you look at it technically, both would indeed be correct. But as an industry question the correct answer would be TIFF because of it's association with photography and general editing within adobe products.

Depends where you will use it.
Is there a way to resume your ssh session after disconnecting, like, I'm moving a huge amount of files right now and I'd like to keep track of what's happening, but if I close the putty window and reopen it I'm pretty sure I won't be able to anymore.

Inside mostly.

I just read that antiglare gives more realistic colour representation and is easier on the eyes.
Glossier looks way way nicer though.

Technically, no, but there's a workaround. Try screen - I've never used it myself, but I have a coworker who does.
i have an nvidia GPU in my laptop but when I try to install drivers I get this

Yeah, found it. I love it already!
Hi, should I buy an original (early 2008) macbook air from my brother for £200 in amazon vouchers? I want to be able to browse the web and use it as a web development/homework machine. I think it works but the hard drive has been wiped clean so I will need to install windows on there somehow.
Thanks

Does the device show up in the Device Manager?

Alright I've decided to make a Windows 7 install on my unused 60GB SSD instead of having everything on one HDD, just to save a lot of trouble and money. I'm running the W7 install on my SSD right now, so it's completely stock, I haven't even switched browser. My question here is how I can make this SSD install of W7 recognize the programs I have installed on my 1TB dynamic disk, like how my 300GB HDD is recognizing it all right now. I'm going to set the My Documents path to my 1TB, and just have my SSD be a Windows install.
TL;DR: How can I make my fresh W7 install on my SSD recognize the programs I've installed onto my other HDD so I don't have to reinstall everything?
Budget.

You won't really find a good crystal clear mic that doesn't pic up your PC. Not without shielding.
I wouldn't really recommend a shotgun mic for when you speak directly into it and stuff. You want a normal condenser microphone with a pop filter. And in your case some shielding to reduce background noise.
What's a good free or cheap video editing software?
Virtual Dub.
It isn't exactly the prettiest thing to look at, but it is very functional.
Blue snowball with a pop filter would be around $90ish
I have Ubuntu 12.04 and trying to get myself some form of N64 emulator. Found Mupen64 but when I try to run a ROM via Mupen it closes itself.
Anyone know how to fix this or know any other emulator I can try?
I'm thinking about getting a new computer for christmas, but i can't decide between OEM or Retail Windows 7.
I know OEM Windows 7 can only be installed on one Motherboard, so does that mean Retail can be installed on an infinite amount of computers?
Iirc you can on three
Regarding SSDs: is it worth five bucks extra to get a SandForce over an Indilinx?
EDIT: It's a Vertex 2 vs a Vertex Plus
