Bad. Really bad. Really really really really really bad.
Thats what I thought... he didn't listen to me when I told him I could build him a PC.

Your friend does not deserve the privilege of existence. End him.

Tell him he's a spanner.
How dated will an i3 2100 and a GTX550 Ti be by december this year?
I'm on a $500-$800 budget, and a few hundred is already going torwards parts.

Sell half that RAM as well as the HDD and buy a 7200rpm hard drive. Nothing he can do about the Core 2 Duo, though. That motherboard would need replaced.
Sad day.
One of the stickers on my laptop (you know, the processor and graphics cards ones) has been slowly moving towards the edge of my laptop.
It's now been rotated 90 degrees and it's 2/3 of the way there, what do.
(I'll take a picture in a second)

That happens but... it's just a sticker.

Not dated at all really, mid-range, you can just stick to 1155 and grab a new processor and graphics card and you'd be set if you wanted to upgrade.

I was gonna say use a laptop IDE adapter, but I don't know if you have one :v:
They're pretty cheap, though.

I wouldn't get a 550 Ti, but there's nothing wrong with a decent motherboard and an i3. i3s aren't top end, but they are work horses, and get the job done. Buy a slightly better mother board than you need. Considering the planned release of haswell architecture in march-june of 2013, you may be able to get a slick deal on a mid-range i5 towards the end of 2013.
In addition, the ivy bridge i3s just came out. Haven't seen any benchmarks yet (not that I have looked to heavily at present), but I'd wager they are going to be good material.
Thanks.
No problem.

Would there be a good Graphics card around $100 that would replace the GTX 550?
Radeon HD 7770 is 15-20% better in most games and is around $125 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127687

Thanks, but this leads me to another question.
How do i know what kind of Power Supply to get?, the specs don't say anything about the wattage.
I also remember there being a website on Facepunch threads a while ago that showed how to build a PC with 3D animations and instructions. What was that?
a 400w+ would be sufficient enough.
Give us the full specs of the computer you plan on buying.
We could give more/better advice.

Right now this is temporary, i plan on buying this around christmas time, i'd like some opinions and possible changes.
I'd say my current budget is around $700. I'm still deciding wether to buy Windows 7 full or OEM.
Also, should i just move to the PC building section?, after all one of the rules is to not post a build that you're going to buy in half a year.
The website you're thinking of is probably pcityourself.com
Wait, you buying this in December?
If so, make a thread a few weeks/days before buying. Plus things may be cheaper because of the holiday sales and whatnot.

You may or may not have had hands with fingers and nails at birth, if you still have them, I suggest you try them.
