Fuck, this laptop has a 15.4" screen and 1680x1050 resolution. It is a HP NX7000 Any ways to force a custom res? It only has 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x768, 1280x1024 and 1680x1050. I would like other 16:10 resolutions like 1400x900 but I have no way of forcing it or doing something like that with it.

I think Nvidia/AMD/ATI cards can only let you set custom resolutions. But for all resolutions you should try the device manager settings.
Is it normal for old HDDs too run a bit hot? My 2 old 300gb is a bit hotter than my 2 not so old 500gbs Just wonder, is this normal? I can't find anything wrong so I hope it's normal.
Thats not hot at all, anything over 45c is when it becomes "Hot". [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] But yes, it seems to be most older HDD's run a few C's hotter but its not big deal.

I'm looking for a new keyboard and mouse. I think I'm going with a G110 for my keyboard but no idea for a mouse. I'd like one for gaming and <~ $50.

And for mice, the best mice I know of that price range are the Deathadder and the Logitech G400, I personally prefer the G400 for its shape and just the fact it doesn't feel flimsy like the deathadder. [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] And if you need macro keys, get a corsair K60/90, or a storm trigger by Coolermaster.

I'd check myself but my phone has a data cap.
Does that keyboard have media controls and a USB port? [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] Alright, the K60/K90 both have 1 USB port on them and the trigger has 2 but you need a power adapter.
Should i get a GTX 660 Ti over the HD 7870? The benchmarks i've seen show that the HD 7870 is a bit slower than the GTX 660 Ti, but the posts i see on forums and Youtube comments say that the GTX 660 ti is a better buy.
Why are you usign a but on two statements that support each other?
Why are you usign a but on two statements that support each other?
You're subconsciously adding a Ti into that sentence.
my second 1280x1024 monitor suddenly just went to 1024x768 and won't change back, why? it's not coming up with the name in either the nvidia control panel (I'm running a 560ti) or in the windows screen resolution options - it's just coming up as "digital display" and "non-pnp monitor" tried updating drivers, reinstalled drivers w/ driver sweeper, nothing. can anyone help?
fixed it, dvi port shit on itself so I'm using dvi>vga and then the vga input as a workaround
I recently accuired an HP Pavilion dv8125nr laptop, and it has issues. When I press the power button, the lights turn on and a fan starts whirring, but then everything stops. The lights stay on, but there is no other activity. Pressing the button configuration to switch displays does nothing, and trying to boot to the BIOS (repeatedly pressing F10 when powered on) also does nothing. So far I have tried reseating the memory, reseating the hard drive, using memory in both memory slots (it has two slots but when I got it it only had one module), booting with the AC power only, booting with the battery only, and booting with both the AC power and battery present. All have the same issue. Also, I noticed one time I tried turning it on that a much quieter fan stayed on, and it kept trying to read from the dvd drive (which was empty), so the disk drive just kept starting and stopping repeatedly, I don't know what that's about. You guys have any ideas as to what I can do here?
I have a d-link wireless router and a linksys wired router hooked together. I run a 3GHz Core 2 Duo with a 8800GTX. How much of a gaming improvement would I get if I were to upgrade to a Core i5 3570K while still keeping my current GPU? I ask because my motherboard has been exhibiting signs of major failure for a while now and it's really only a matter of time before I have to build a new computer. My current GPU still does what I want it to do but I will eventually upgrade it in the future to a high end model.

I managed to secure it in place with a small piece of foam and now the laptop boots up. However, there are other issues, namely the hard drives have something called "drivelock" on them, some kind of password. Is there any way to reset the drives to default, or somehow otherwise clear this password? I don't care about recovering the data on the drives, I just want them to be useable.

You can't go wrong with a 3570k, but if your current system is adequate for your needs you may wish to see if you can wait till haswell rolls out.
I need a video card for about $80. Any recommendations? Ideally it should have at least two DVI ports. An HDMI port would be nice, too.
Should i get the XFX 7870 or can i get a better card for around $260? I've heard that the GTX 660 was a better buy from googling the 7870 but the benchmarks i've seen show that it's only a little better than it.
I'd get the 7870 unless you need the CUDA cores or PhysX.

Obviously you'll have to upgrade the GPU at some point, but from my experience with C2Ds you might as well get rid of the CPU first or the GPU upgrade is meaningless. One I got a 3570K, framerates jumped substantially.
Hey, does anybody know of a good 2.5"->3.5" converter bracket that puts the SATA port in exactly the same position it is on 3.5" drives? I've got some spare 2.5" hard drives, and might be getting an SSD, to put into my old Mac Pro. The problem is, Apple did one of their typical "awesome in theory but causes problems if you try to actually do other things with it" things. Hard drives connect directly to the motherboard - there are no cables. You put the drive in a sled, and slide it in, and it engages ports directly on the mobo. It works perfectly for 3.5" drives, but the sleds don't have holes for 2.5" drives. Few of the brackets I can find line the drive up right, and those I can find seem to have significant reliability issues (particularly those that bridge the SATA connection). And of course, trying to search specifically for ones that work in a Mac Pro 1,1 brings up the typical over-priced Apple stuff - I don't intend to spend $80 on a mounting bracket.
Is there anyway to uninstall WMP11 on XP SP3? I've tried: Method 1: Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Tick "Show Updates" > Remove Windows Media Player 11 But here's the problem: It's still there after removing it. (In this case is a roll back to the previous version) It's still WMP 11. Method 2: Using Add/Remove Windows components > Untick Windows Media Player Still not working. When I tried to install WMP9 after doing all the above, it still says that there is a newer version of WMP installed on my machine. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. ^ Still there!
Why are you trying to downgrade WMP
Why are you trying to downgrade WMP
I don't like WMP11
Then use something else? WMP 9 is objectively inferior to pretty much any present-day player, and if you wanted to use some skin WMP 11 will still use them.
