I'm thinking of getting a windshield mount to mount on my PC case to put my Nexus in, so I can use steam and other stuff while ingame, where my second monitor would do little good. Good idea, or no?

All of the i3's on Newegg that I see are dual core and I don't have much money.
Look at the benchmarks.
Note that the i3 is generally beating the other one in performance, even on multi threaded apps. Moar corez does not directly boost performance if all the cores are weak.
I noticed that but I have a better plan. My dad just told me he can get a job and I start Saturday. My plan is get the motherboard and RAM for Christmas and use job money for a CPU. My birthday is also a month after Christmas so I'll get money from that too. Thinking of a 2500k, I've heard many great things about it.
So, im admin on my computer, bu i cant run CMD or REGEDIT. I've run a virus scan, comes up clean, is there a way to fix this?

Just use the overlay? You'd have to let go of the controls anyway.
Q: For the past few months i haven't been able to get into any "wikia.com" pages. The page endlessly loads. I've googled this and no solution has come up, even with multiple wordings of the query. I've checked using other browsers, nothing in my firewall is blocking the site, and Kaspersky has no settings prohibiting the site. I know it's something with my computer because i can access it on my phone. Any ideas?
Open command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns", see if it works then
Open command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns", see if it works then
Worked, any idea what could have caused it?
Your DNS was clogged and needed to be flushed like a toilet.
[editline]18th November 2012[/editline]
im joking ok
I believe it's something like: your DNS cache had some errors in it so wikia.com was pointing to the wrong IP or something.
Your DNS was clogged and needed to be flushed like a toilet.
[del]Gross, but after closer inspection only certain pages want to load (ie. fallout wikia is fine, other "x.wikia.com" pages won't load)[/del]
Now it's working for some reason after i manually type the address in.
i suggest you switch to google's DNS

I have a question. Has Intel completely abandoned the LGA 1366 socket?

Slightly better off with the 3570k, but if you can find a 2500k on sale, go for it.
I have a question. Has Intel completely abandoned the LGA 1366 socket?
Pretty much. That socket doesn't have support for IGPUs, which are effectively standard on anything that isn't server hardware now.
Is there any way to speed up a defrag? At my current rate (Defraggler at Realtime priority only gives me 0.6%/hour) it'll take over a week.
Is there any way to speed up a defrag? At my current rate (Defraggler at Realtime priority only gives me 0.6%/hour) it'll take over a week.
Nope, not really. The only thing you can do is delete anything unneeded - maybe clear your browser caches, temp files, downloads, etc. Look through the list of fragmented files and delete anything you don't really need.
[editline]18th November 2012[/editline]
and if there's anything huge that's in a very large amount of fragments, it might be faster to back it up, delete it, defrag, and then restore.

Delete your browser cache, particularly Firefox's if you have that installed.
is it possible to use a home theatre system as pc speakers? we got a new one for downstairs and my mum said i can have them, but the dvd player bit that the speakers go to doesn't turn on. the speakers themselves are fine
the system is panasonic sa-ht1500
these are the only connections on the back of the sub - 5 for the speakers, power, and the one that goes to the dvd player. would i be able to simply get an adapter or something and plug the sub into my pc?
my mate says he suspects they're passive speakers and require an amp which the dvd player would have in, but on the back of the sub it says "active subwoofer"
My power supply makes loud oscillating noise sort of like there's a bent blade that's clipping a wire or something. I looked at it myself but I don't see anything wrong. No wire being hit or anything. The noise is definitely coming from the power supply though. Is this bad or something I should be worried about?
The sub most likely provides power to the speakers, but the DVD player would be the thing that provides input from what I see. Does the DVD player not work at all?

If it's just a fan hitting a wire, and it's not slowing the fan down significantly, it shouldn't be a problem. If you don't mind possibly voiding your warranty on the PSU you could always open it up and move the wire (if that's what it is) so it doesn't happen.

Wow I wasn't aware I posted here that much.

it turns on and just keeps clicking and wont turn off again unless you unplug it
so could i not just get an adapter and plug it into my pc? i was under the assumption that active speakers could just be plugged into things and work without an amp or some other controller; i know fuck all about speakers and computer hardware though.
would i have to get the player fixed/get an amp for it instead or is there an easier way?
Does anyone have a definitive answer on the best way to apply thermal paste?
I ordered a new CPU cooler and I've been looking up the best way. I assumed it was spreading it with a card as that's method that seems to be the most popular but I have been hearing that putting a pea sized blob in the middle then letting the pressure from the heatsink spread it is the best method because it will create less bubbles between the cpu and the cooler.

I think two fine line spread about 1 cm apart was the best.
Any good Lenovo laptops?

Y580/G580 or a Thinkpad Edge if you want some 'Think' nostalgia.
I think two fine line spread about 1 cm apart was the best.
So the best way is to let the cooler do the spreading? It's weird that almost every tutorial online uses a spreading method with a bit of card/plastic bag.
So the best way is to let the cooler do the spreading? It's weird that almost every tutorial online uses a spreading method with a bit of card/plastic bag.
Let the cooler spread it. Most CPU / CPU coolers are very slightly concave and if you spread the paste yourself the center isn't properly contacting the CPU. If you put a pea size in the middle or two lines, it will start in the center and press itself outward, filling gaps as needed.

This is something for more experienced users tbh, people who had time and ressources to experiment with the right kind of lines. For anyone else I'd recommend the rice dot in the middle, it gives thin and even spreading without much margin of error. It's also basically the second best method.

Whats the deal with that baggy method anyway? The PC building guide from newegg tells you to use this but when I was watching all I could think about is how plastic bags like to create static electricity. Surely that method is risky because of that.
