Upgrading my computer and my brother brought up "Overheating", How would I cool my pc? I can add 2 more fans on the side of the case. Would that be worth doing even if I'm not upgrading?
im using an amd athlon II x3 and a radeon hd 5550. i want to upgrade one of them(only have money atm for one or the other, budget around $100 - $130) without buying a new mobo/power supply(425W). my options that ive found so far are amd phenom II x4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727 or radeon hd 6850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125353 i know nothing about graphics cards, so i just found one that looked okay. which one would be better for increasing performance(guessing gpu), and would one of them bottleneck the other?
Damn, I wish I could use a 425W power supply. I've always taken to the ideal of having at least double what I need, keeps the PSU from running at capacity and thus, prolonging the life of the thing. My current PSU is 1200W. :p

Should I get a 7850 with 1 or 2 GBs of vram. If I get the 1gb model I can afford to have 2 ports which will come in handy. I'll be playing at 1920x1200

Anybody want to find me a cheap HTPC build? I'm talking like 250 euro maybe. Off this website cause I'm in Ireland www.dabs.ie It's a Christmas present for the family.
I'd get the 680. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The 7970 isn't that far behind with a little OC'ing wouldn't it catch up to stock 690 speeds? Also wouldn't the 3gb vs the 2gb of ram on the nividia card be better? Who has the best drivers?
So I have about $170-$220, and I'm considering upgrading either my graphics card (an HD 4850, quite old and loud at this point), or getting an SSD to put my OS and common games on. I'm leaning towards the GPU, although I'm able to run games at a satisfactory performance. Mostly I'm wondering, are SSDs worth it now, for say, 128GB? I had a friend say that they're prone to fail, although I'm not sure about that, and my current GPU has 512GB of GDDR3. If a new GPU wouldn't lag behind too much on loading gains for games, I might get that for all the extra benefits it gives.

In terms of drivers I think AMD have more issues with games, like when rage came out. You would also be able to use TXAA althout im not sure how much it blurs textures. Your friend is only partially correct for the shit SSDs such as the Solid/Vertex 3 series from OCZ, but Samsung, Crucial, Intel, (and some others others probably) are pretty damn reliable. Go SSD. Second choice would be Crucial M4.
Which one of these monitors would be the best to get for >$200? [editline]5:56PM[/editline] Much appreciated for the quick answer, TehWhale.
VW246H came in and I'm loving it, thanks again TehWhale. Had another question though, I'm pretty decent at everything except networking. Me and my room-mate have this situation where we both have our own desktop PCs and other devices; but we're using our ISP-provided modem which just allows for one thing to be connected, so we're basically disconnecting and reconnecting everything everyday. Since I know little to nothing about networking, what would you guys recommend me to do? Get a wired (or wireless I don't know) router from NewEgg/Amazon or what? I wouldn't even know what product or brand to start with. Do you guys know of any routers that would good to start out with?

I've spotted this bargain on Ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-PowerEdge-SC1425-Dual-Xeon-2x2-8Ghz-64-Bit-6GB-RAM-SATA-Server-1U-Rackmount-/140816072507?pt=UK_Computing_Servers&hash=item20c94abf3b Got a few questions. With the processing power it has, what could it be used for? (Minecraft server, web server etc) What OS do these usually run on? Or which is the best? Will this use a lot of power if it's on 24/7? We have high enough electric bills already.
what's the deal with the 5870? it used to be the bee's knees a few years ago, now it's like $100 on ebay.
what's the deal with the 5870? it used to be the bee's knees a few years ago, now it's like $100 on ebay.
Because it's a few years old :=-0) It's still decent, there's just better out there. For $100 it's a great deal.
I am woefully inept, can someone tell me if this is worth the purchase? Seems really, really cheap.

These Dells are most commonly used with Windows Server, or Virtualization. I would recommend Windows Server if you're going to be using it at home. They do indeed consume a lot of power, since I've started running my server 24/7 my electricity bill has risen a fair amount.

So, recently the back panel audio jacks on my motherboard have completely stopped working, and I'm clueless as to how I might fix it. At first I thought it might be the audio/motherboard drivers going wacko, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Is it common for soldering to wear off/melt off? As that's the only reason I can see for them to suddenly stop working.

How much of a step down is the last one from those?
If you're not upgrading your PSU, stick to the 7770, I don't think the others will like running on an OEM PSU. Or maybe wait and see what happens on fri-mon. Might be a good deal.
Also I believe my psu is 475 watt not 500 [editline]22nd November 2012[/editline] and also I looked up a video and those cards are massive, probably might not fix with the wonky dell standard 420 xps case [editline]22nd November 2012[/editline] alright thanks, I'll get measurements tomorrow and see if any deals pop up [editline]22nd November 2012[/editline] one last thing, is the 7770 a decent card? [editline]22nd November 2012[/editline] ugh in the mean time can you guys recommend a good 500 watt psu?
