Got a big problem. My external drive just gave up. Well, is would work just fine, but the USB connector is totally broken, because its loose as hell and just moves inside the case, so I can't connect this thing.
It's one of those drives you can't open (at least without pure violence), and there's stuff on it I haven't secured anywhere else. Is there a possibility to somehow get the data? I don't care if I can't use it anymore afterwards, I just want ro get my stuff down from there.

Yeah I've got one of those. Just rip it open and you can install the drive into your computer like a normal drive. It should be SATA on the inside.
Of course, this invalidates your warranty.
Are my Hyper 212 with my 3570k good? I average around 35c - 36c on idle and around 60 at full load, my highest core is 40 on idle and 64 on full load.

Also that's at 4.0 ghz.

You don't remember when Brt spent like $700 on those four 3TB drives? They've been around for a while though.
So can anyone help me with booting my sisters PC for the first time? I can't get the freaking power button to work, and I know power is running through it. When I hook the PLED and HDLED wires up to it, they light up. Whats weird is that manually jumping with a screwdriver is not working...

Are you sure you're jumping the right pins?
You should also try jump starting your PSU, and if that works the mobo is probably bad.

I am using the right pins according to the manual. And I can't jump start the PSU, as I have nothing to connect the pins with in the house

Paper clip, staple, scrap of wire? There has to be something you can use.
Found the problem. The shitty old PSU is rated for 250W, I thought it was 350W. Does trying to boot with that cause damage in any way? I'm going to order another PSU from Newegg tonight
Would an Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.66 GHz bottleneck a GTX 560 ti?
no
Does having a powersupply that is under minimum required power damage components?
Yes they will start burning because of all that additional power.
No, it shouldn't. Especially if you never actually got it to boot.
I'm looking to get a new CPU, what's the stuff I should keep in mind while looking for one? I'm assuming an Intel i7 would be best if I'm looking for something high-end, right?
Any VPN solution which in I can connect through port 80 or 443?
(If it's OpenVPN? Then I haven't actually succeeded, don't know how to setup the keys & such. Looked at a tutorial, still didn't work)
Guys, friend wants to buy a new laptop to replace his Asus K42JK.
Gaming on it would be a plus but not necessary by any means. Only other uses would be music creation, internet browsing, listening to music, watching films.
But I think the most important part is long lasting. Every other laptop he has had has crapped out on him in so many ways, and he isn't bad with them either, as I always make sure he does nothing stupid.
Budget is £400 or less.
Thanks.

That laptop he has seems decent considering his budget to replace it.

i7 if you're doing stuff like video editing. i5 if it's just for gaming

It looks nice, but I wouldn't mind if I could just setup my own?

Hitachi has had 4TB drives for at least 6 months now. We got some at my ISP job in April.

More like 850. And they've been a huge pain in the ass the past few months.

For almost a year more like. Though they're iffy. IF they got the reliability up on those I'd grab four and sell my 3TB's or something. The warranty on my 3TB's isn't worth throwing them in an adaptive flexraid.

I've had a 1.5TB since Vista (still using it). 3TB has been around for over a year.

Depends how long you ran it for.
Back in my more dumbass days, I fried a mobo/CPU/graphics card by leaving it on overnight, thinking it was just running a particularly slow boot. But if you only had it powered on for a minute or two before turning it off, you should be fine.

Posted this in Pc-building but no reply in over an hour. Might have some more success here.
I'm currently using a laptop for everything. But I want to get rid of all games and that kind of stuff and use it just for work.
I know how to put a pc together but I haven't been following the tech for a few years so I have no idea what the current prices/specs are. I want a pc build mostly for entertainment (gaming, movies, etc). I'm not someone who wants to run Skyrim with HD mods on 300fps so I don't need any high end stuff. I would just want a pc that is capable of running everything on medium graphics and the very intensive stuff on low graphics. I don't care much about startup/loading time so I don't need an ssd. I already have a keyboard and mouse but no monitor. I also have a legit copy of windows 7 and 8 left.
What is the best option for me? Should I build my own pc or should I buy a premade one?
What processor, graphics, ram, motherboard, etc. should I look into? Also I'm in Europe if prices differ much.

some more things
-don't need cd/dvd/blue-ray (I have external one)
-no card reader
-no fancy Christmas lighting case thing.
-A decent amount of usb ports.

Would this be a decent (semi) prebuild?

HDD: 500gb 7200rpm
CPU: AMD® FX-4100 (4x 3,6 GHz)
RAM: N/A
GPU: ATI Radeon HD3000 (onBoard)
MB : Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
PS : 420 W
I guess I would need to add a GPU and RAM.
What GPU would be ok with it and how much RAM should I get?
