So I've been looking into buying a new processor, I got CPU-Z to check all that stuff on what processors will fit and it says my has a "Socket 775 LGA". I've been looking around and it seems like there aren't any i7 processors for that socket, does that mean I'd need to get a new motherboard if I want an i7?

There arent any i cpus for that socket, original i series were on 1156.
Alright well I guess I'll have to get a new motherboard too then. They don't seem to be particularly expensive so it probably won't be a big problem. Only one other thing - I'd like to keep all my old stuff, all the files and installed stuff, I've found some guides on how to make Windows 7 work again after replacing a motherboard, is doing that stuff simple? And will that keep all the registry stuff for everything that was installed?
Apparantly Windows 0% volume is still somehow volume somtimes. Use mute instead.. Don't have a fix.
Most volume sliders use a logarithmic scale, so 0% is not completely silent by design. Whether you hear anything is dependent on the gain of the source. You are supposed to use mute for complete silence, that's by design. Although I'm not sure whether his problem specifically is caused by a bug or by design.
(Look at a logarithmic graph and see how it infinitely approaches zero but never touches it)
My computer did something kinda weird as it started up today, and I'm not sure what caused it.
First things first, I cleaned out my computer with one of those dusters, and when I booted it up then everything was fine. However when I turned my computer on just now, the screen sorta flickered on and off while everything was booting up, including on the desktop. When it did show anything on-screen, the screen had little black lines that'd appear and disappear randomly.
I unplugged the monitor and replugged it back in (thinking it was because I didn't have the line firmly in since the last time I used it) and it's been working fine so far, but I'm curious to know if this might be something more then just an isolated incident.
Oh god damnit please help me quickly!
The deal is, I'm using Google Chrome, but for some reason when I type any word to the address bar, it DOESN'T go to Google straight away, but on some "Ask" website.
How do I make it go away, again?
[editline]30th November 2012[/editline]
It's not in the "Extensions" either. :( It's really annoying

Settings > scroll a bit down > under the heading "Search" choose google.
No wait nevermind, I got it I got it! I can finally die in peace.
And I can finally type any word in any form into the address bar, press Enter and I'm in Google, and I can press "Translator" and it will translate the word, for example.
Ah, the feeling of relief.

And yes thank you for fast reply there good man, you are what makes the Internet.
I've been looking into power line networking as a alternative to wifi.. but i'm wondering if i should get 10/100 or a 1 gig speed. this deal came up.. but i'v never tried this and i don't wanna fuck up the power grid in my house.

Just get 10/100. It's unlikely that you'd ever get 1 gigabit speeds on power, and I doubt your network is gigabit.
I have the best linksys router, but all i need is something that allows 1080p streaming, and maybe light gaming. Network speeds are abit confusing.

1080p is less or a bit higher than 10mbit, depending on encoding.
Gigabit is only useful for large internal file transfers or if you have gigabit internet.
(For example, I use gigabit to transfer files to my server with 120MB/s (Which is the maxiumum my harddrives can handle)
Can a NZXT 210 Source case fit an 11-12 inch card?, i've read the dimensions on it and it looks like it could but i read a review on Newegg about how a guy couldn't fit the card in his case (Cooler Master Storm Scout) which has about the same dimensions as my case.
Anyone know of a decent (free) program for converting flacs to other file types?
I need a somewhat capable modem and router to replace my Homehub3 and shitty Openreach modem, any reccomendations?
[editline]1st December 2012[/editline]
Also, my connection seems to time out at regular intervals (~10 minutes), forcing me out of any constant-connection applications e.g video games or skype
Would anyone know the cause for that?
Is it possible to boot from a USB flash drive in a system where the BIOS does not specifically mention USB anywhere?

what motherboard (or PC model if it's prebuilt)?
what motherboard (or PC model if it's prebuilt)?
It's a laptop actually, HP dv8125nr. I just got the hard drives to work and now the optical drive crapped out on me.
It might say "Removable <something>" rather than USB.
Does anyone here know a good guide on how Bluetooth works, and if theres some kind of bluetooth device I could order that simply outputs power when it receives a specific signal?

Not sure what you're trying to do, but there's a bluetooth Arduino that you could probably program to do that?
Current Spec:
AMD FX-6200
6870
New CPU(2500k) and mobo or GPU? I don't feel my CPU is giving me the performance I was hoping for. My 6870 has been giving me problems lately crashing 2-3 hours Its bearable though. Which option seems like the right path?
i currently have a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Green HDD that I've had for a few years that has all my games etc on it, I was wondering whether it would be worth upgrading? I'm thinking of doing a total format some time soon anyway and if buying a new HDD would make things faster on my PC then I'm not averse to getting a new one, preferably 2TB.
according to HDTune I'm getting about 100Mb/s read rate from the HDD at the moment, not sure if that's good or not?
i have a SSD that I use for Windows/some programs already, so I'm in no need for a SSD.

Just to make sure:
Your CPU is doing just fine, just what you want while your GPU is crashing every 2-3 hours and you're asking which one to upgrade?
One would think the answer is fairly obvious.

There's probably nothing wrong with your graphics card, you should try reinstalling the drivers (uninstallling them, and wiping them with driver sweeper first). If that doesn't work, you might want to try going back to an older driver. It could also be overheating, so check the fan and heatsink for dust if you can. I had an 8800 GTX once that I had never cleaned. The cooler was so full of dust, the card would go over 100c while playing Fallout 3. That card still works just fine, but the cooler had to be cleaned out obviously.
As for what you should upgrade, it depends on what games you play. If you upgrade to an i5-2500k, your graphics card will probably be bottlenecking you in some games. The same applies if you get a new graphics card for the same price as what a new motherboard, CPU and RAM would cost you. I wouldn't upgrade the graphics card just because it's giving you trouble at the moment though, because again, there is probably nothing wrong with it.
what exactly does changing the "minimum/maximum processor state" settings on windows vista do?
I wanted to install Steam on my windows 8 partition, but when I went to do it, it said Windows 8 was on the C drive, and Windows 7 was on the D drive. When I'm in windows 7, it says the opposite. Should I just install it on the one that says windows 8?

Starting with Windows Vista, whatever partition you install Windows to will be designated as C for that install of Windows.
