I'm planning on getting an HD 7950 gpu as my next upgrade from a 5850. Would you guys recommend a certain brand? I've heard MSI and Sapphire are good with their 7950's..
Those would be the first two I'd look at. I own two MSI 580's and MSI is a good brand.
So I need to install a new hard drive in my pc, which is a Hp dv7 notebook. Do I need both a recovery cd and a windows cd to get this thing working?
Recovery CD is simply to bring it back to the way you got it from the manu. You can simply throw a normal windows 7 copy on it.

I do have windows xp, would that work instead?
reposting as I was last post last page :/ 'i currently have a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Green HDD that I've had for a few years that has all my games etc on it, I was wondering whether it would be worth upgrading? I'm thinking of doing a total format some time soon anyway and if buying a new HDD would make things faster on my PC then I'm not averse to getting a new one, preferably 2TB. according to HDTune I'm getting about 100Mb/s read rate from the HDD at the moment, not sure if that's good or not? i have a SSD that I use for Windows/some programs already, so I'm in no need for a SSD.'
Sequential transfers barely influences most stuff in windows. For large transfers or recording video it can help though. My 3TB drives hit 180MB/s write in most cases.
and i got what i needed thanks and snip
Not sure what you're trying to do, but there's a bluetooth Arduino that you could probably program to do that?
Well, it'd have to be small enough to fit within like a thick wristband.. and as far as I know the Arduino is quite big isn't it?
Anybody know of any good programs for binding keys to a MIDI keyboard? Gotta play some piano Half-Life, man.
Well, it'd have to be small enough to fit within like a thick wristband.. and as far as I know the Arduino is quite big isn't it?
What are you trying to do? There might be a better solution than bluetooth.
i'm primarily wondering about games really
For many games, I don't see a difference between an SSD and a harddrive. Unless it's a big one like BF3, Arma, etc. So going from 100MBps to 150MBps might not make a difference in reality.
What are you trying to do? There might be a better solution than bluetooth.
Get a wristband to vibrate when signaled by another device. Gonna need enough range for it to work to work anywhere within a medium-sized house..
Get a wristband to vibrate when signaled by another device. Gonna need enough range for it to work to work anywhere within a medium-sized house..
and I suppose having it wi-fi powered is out of the question isn't it

[editline]Hi[/editline] I was thinking of just tearing apart one of those bluetooth headsets, and somehow get it to simply output power to the motor on activation.
Going to take the HDD out of my laptop, put it in an enclosure and throw in an SSD instead. Mainly used for school work, any big files will be put on the old HDD. 1. What size SSD should I get? About 128 gb should do, right? 2. Any recommendations?

I am looking for a laptop/notebook for ≤500€ it should be ≤13" big it should be able to survive 4 hours of web browsing with wlan it should have a ≤500gb hard drive. or it should be easy to replace the hard drive right now I am thinking of the x200 or x201. would that be good choices? just not sure if I really need the bigger performance and touchpad of the x201
How much do you want to spend?
Max about 110 euros. [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline] Intel 330 series 120gb SSD for 89 euros, yes or no?
Ok when I try to install windows, the computer blue screens and tells me to scan for viruses and remove any new software. It also eays to make sure the hard drive is properly configured and terminated. It's done this since it came out of the box, but it doesn't get this error on the old drive. The error number it gives is 0x0000007B

What size SSD should I get? About 128 gb should do, right? 2. Any recommendations?
The first SSD I got was 64GB. The actual size is of course just under 60GB, because of overprovisioning and that bullshit where manufacturers differentiate in how they calculate the amount of space on a drive differently from what an actual OS does. Anyway, after a year or so, windows was taking up over 20GB of space, which is over a third of the drive. I had another 15-20GB of programs on it, and that left some 10GB free. I had the pagefile on the SSD for a while too, but then I needed the extra space. Having the pagefile on the SSD actually helps responsiveness quite a bit in some cases, even though it does wear the SSD down quicker. The actual lifespan of an SSD is ridiculously long though, even with constant abuse, so that doesn't really matter. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, you should get an SSD with at least 128GB of space, because it sucks when you need to prioritize which programs you want on your SSD. Personally, I went with a 256GB SSD, because it was reasonably priced compared to the 128GB SSD (price per GB lower by a fair amount, plus slightly increased performance). When you have an SSD of that size, you can also afford to have some games and other space comsuming stuff on it. Seeing as you're going to be putting it in a school laptop though, huge games probably won't be an issue. As for suggestions, Samsung makes some very nice SSDs. They are very fast, and quite reliable. I have a Samsung 830 256GB. They also just released the 840, which is slightly faster (actually quite a lot in some cases). If I were you, I'd probably go with that if it isn't much more expensive.

My keyboard acts strange when I'm playing games, when I play Saints Row 3. Random keys start to get stuck, like if I walk forward and let go of the key sometimes it will continue working forward until I press it again to make it stop. Shift key also gets stuck and my keyboard just goes crazy when I play a gpu,cpu intense game. It does it with any keyboard I connect to the computer.
For some reason my "Documents" Library shows all my music too, and when i delete them from there it also deletes them from my "Music" Library. It wasn't like this before so i'm confused as to why this is happening Wait, fixed the problem
what exactly does changing the "minimum/maximum processor state" settings on windows vista do?
Normally, your CPU will automatically downclock when it's not under much load to save power and run cooler, and ramp up to full speed when it's busy. Those settings let you control how slow and fast it can run as a percentage of full speed. For example, a while back I had to use a program that was buggy and would always max out the CPU, so I set the maximum state to 40% so that the CPU wouldn't be fooled and go into overdrive just to satisfy the buggy program. Since it was a laptop, this made it so that instead of heating up the chip to 70C+ and cooking the battery as well as my lap, it'd only hit about 50C.

Every guide I look up on the internet directs me as if windows was installed on the PC already, this is a clean hard drive that has nothing on it whatsoever. Call me stupid but can you quadruple boot OS's? Also if i get an external HDD is there a way to make a PC boot to an OS on that?
