Is there any point in getting 16gb of ram? I hear that a lot of gamers are getting more ram up to 16gb and it actually helps in games.
Most games are still 32bit, so it doesn't matter there. But Windows can cache more stuff in ram to speed things up. 16gb is like 80 bucks now, so I would.
I've never really changed Window's themes and now I'm trying to, I basically want everything to be the color scheme of sublime ( http://www.sublimetext.com/ ) basically, and I don't know what I'm doing.
Like, I want the background of the file browser a dark grey and such, I can't find anything that's nice and simple and doesn't add some ricer crap, basic windows theme darker would work for me.
That's correct. In some cases the integrated graphics are disabled when there's a dedicated GPU installed.
I still can't get any display to work. I have the motherboard with the cpu on iit, psu, fans, 1 4gb stick of ram and panel 1 cords( power, reset, and led light) plugged in and still no display.

Try either 3.03 or 4.00 versions. The program is very old and there are some compatibility issues with
later Windows versions; but they both work all the same. It's meant for the Windows classic theme but
it does work with certain parts of Aero.
It may/may not work but it's worth a try.
You can also find some Visual Styles with built in color changes on dA. With any VS modification, you'll need to do some modifications to Window's internals.
I'd just follow neiio's guide: http://neiio.deviantart.com/art/How-to-Install-Custom-Themes-262833454
He makes some slick VS overhauls too.
If you want to go nerdcore though, you can also give TrueTransparency a try, to customize Windows borders.
There's a lot of stuff you can find on dA for TT but if you're decent with any image editor, you can pretty much hack up your own interface. http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&q=true+transparency
With some effort, you can come up with stuff like this:
[thumb]http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/230/6/2/temerity_suite_by_cha1nbull3t-d4721ui.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/194/3/0/temerity_2_by_kalam1ty_ac-d574hkk.png[/thumb]
These shots also feature a custom shell, LiteStep -- along with various programs that allow for visual modification (i.e. CAD, Foobar200, Firefox, and Miranda). Mix them together and you'll get some pretty slick results.
It's VERY hacky stuff so you might end up with some bugs here and there, but form over function -- right ?
A long while back I posted in the tech support forum because my laptop kept getting BSoD, I wanted to ask this in tech suport but they dont have a general tread.
The situation is: Laptop got dropped from table or something by a family member, it seemed to be fine but the computer guy needed to reinstall windows and as they didnt know where the Vista install cd was they just got a new laptop, they this laptop to me.
Now the interesting part, I have installed all different versions of microsoft, XP, 7, 8, and on all of them after about a week or so I start getting BSoD, this happens when using microsoft update to find drivers as well as one of those driver finding software.
It works fine 98% of the time on linux however I have had the occassional kernel panic where the screen just turns into a giant terminall and wont do anything, after that I just need to restart, sometimes this can go on for ays with kernell pannics happening during boot.
So I figured I have a week until I start back at uni and I want to find out whats wrong to be able to use windows as there are a fare few windows programs I need.
So basically, is there any upto-date live cd's with diagnosis software, I remember a few years back tere being one but no idea which to use. or any programs that can be used to chck hardware on linux(like HDD, Ram, CPU, MoBo...)
How would one record two separate windows simultaneously? The windows in question are a video game and a webpage containing updating data from said game. Is there software that can do this?

On Vista/7, you can set fraps to record the desktop and you can record the entire monitor at once, but since it uses DWM, it won't work on Win8.

Memtest, Hiren's Boot CD, Super PI.
A few years ago I learned about the demagnify button on my monitor so I went fucking wild with one for a few seconds. Now there's a really faint green spot that won't go away. Is there a way to fix it?
I have 4 sticks of 800mhz DDR2 in my computer, but it appears to be running at 667mhz. I thought to change it in the BIOS, but i have a motherboard from a pre-built, and it will not let me.

So would I then just be able to make to copies and crop the needed parts in each?

That is one damn ugly motherboard
My friend is getting a new computer within the $500-$550 range(was gonna be $1000 but got decreased to $500) so i was wondering if anyone can recommend or could say what the best desktop is for that price range. Also he is just buying so no building.

You could wait a day or two then try to degauss/demagnetize it again

it worked the last time I had funny colors on my CRT
Built my first rig, everythings gone well and I've had a few downloads going for the past 7 hours with no issues. Was just casually installing various software like Java and I heard a clicking noise. It's coming from the PSU every two seconds, no issues visible and I can still continue browsing the net.
Any reasons this is happening? My build is almost identical to my previous build that ran on 450w and I'm even on a 500w PSU in my new build.

update: he can build one now so any recommended builds for $500-$550
So i think my computers fucked or something, i'm running it in safe mode atm. When i try and launch it in the normal windows it starts up fine and then my monitor switches off as if i've just pulled the cable out from my PC. I don't think its my graphics card because i took it out and got the same problem. Could it be a virus? I went on the pirate bay to download something and as soon as i hit download (before bitorrent even opened) my computer restarted and when it turned back on i had no longer had a desktop background and the "windows has recovered from a serious error" message popped up. I'm thinking its my second harddrive because i can hear it switch on and off sometimes but there's nothing on it except steam
also both hard drives appear fine in my computers despite hearing it switch off, which is the same noise i hear when i turn off my computer, i can move files around etc etc but safe mode is obviously stopping something from breaking
I've just rebuilt my PC with a barebone bundle, POST is fine but when it tries booting into Windows it bluescreens, the quickstart guide suggests that I need to reinstall windows; is this true? I've never actually done something like this so it's all very new to me.
Is there a 24 inch OLED Monitor? Or do i need to wait a few years?

You'll have to wait a long while.

Yes.
Often some hardware drivers will conflict and bluescreen if you don't reinstall.
You'll have to wait a long while.
How long? I will not buy another monitor unless it's a giant leap in technology, and that technology is OLED.

make sure the power and data cables are firmly plugged into the hard drive, and I don't really see a virus happening as soon as you press a download button unless it had already existed. Do you still hear the windows start up noise when the monitor turns off? If so maybe uninstall your graphics drivers in safe mode and try and get back into Windows and reinstall them. I don't know.

It might just be a different HDD mode, try changing it to IDE or AHCI, you might be able to recover it regardless, but when you change motherboard's it's a good idea to reinstall. You could just throw in a windows disk and run the start up repair and see if that works.

It's going to be a while before that's available and even longer before it's affordable.

I'll just format, there's not a whole lot on my hard drive anyway.
Well, before you do make sure your SATA mode or whatever it's called is set to AHCI.
I got 2 monitors recently and was wondering if it might be possible to make the notification icons move to the left monitor instead of the right. I tried DisplayFusion and it won't work for some odd reason. Forgot to mention that I created a eyefinity group in CCC.

you can move the whole windows bar to the other monitor by just unlocking and dragging it
