As IpHa said, I'd try another program and see if it persists. Did you install any special drivers or are you just using whatever it detected?
Try it in ms paint or some other simple program.
Same test as before.

Does anyone know at what temperature a Xeon 5150 will automatically shut down? Or better yet, know somewhere where I could look it up? I checked the Intel ARK, but I couldn't find anything about this.
This page seems to indicate the max is 65°C, but it doesn't say whether it will shut itself down at this temperature, and I have no clue if it is even accurate.

Also, does the CPU shut itself down? or is the kernel responsible for responding to overheating?

I thought thermal shutdown was controlled by the motherboard?
Yesh pretty sure the BIOS monitors the temperature and will shutdown accordingly
Ah, it's a BIOS thing then. Odd, I would have thought the processor should handle that, since it's got the sensors on it anyways.
I'm just being paranoid anyways. I'm going to be re-applying the thermal compound on my processors for a first time, and I'm being cautious and double-checking everything.
Around June this year there will be a new line of Intel CPUs with a new architecture, and probably using a new socket so if you can hold off until then it might be worth it.
Also that rumor that the CPUs will the soldered to the board is false from what I understand.
Thanks
Is any one making any needle gauge panels like the Cooler Master Musketeer?

Monoprice make good tablets, what are you talking about?
wtf?
so, friend got my old parts.
E5200
Gigabyte GA-945PL-S3
2x2GB DDR2 RAM.
He put them in his case, bought a PCI-e 8800GT and.. it didn't work. Okay, the seller wasn't sure if the GPU works. Okay, it works in my PC. Let's take the old GPU we had in it (HD4650) and yeah, doesn't work.
No beeps, no screen power on, A confirmed working GPU and should be working PSU (Was taken off as after getting an upgrade), Motherboard, CPU, RAM from my upgrade leftovers.
All the parts worked before putting them in this case. What could be the problem? All the standoffs should be connected, should boot with an IDE HDD, even if it is not connected but it doesn't to shit. Not even a fucking beep code?
Where could be the problem? Tried booting with 1 ram stick in different ports (And the other stick), didn't work. I don't have other motherboards or S775 CPU-s to test that.
I haven't been following the graphics card market/reviews/prices, but I'd like to get a new graphics card, as my old HD 3870X2 doesn't keep up with anything anymore (duh) and it's overheating like an angry bitch. I can't be bothered to clean the shit again and apply new paste, all in all I'm tired of my card and it's problems.
On a different forum, a second hand AMD HD 5850 is being sold for about $153. It's been used for about 2,5 years and has had it's bios flashed to allow overclocking to higher frequencies. I trust the user selling it when he says it's in good condtition. I'm obviously tempted to buy it, because as far as I've read and researched, it's better than HD 6850, the GTX 650 Ti (which sells for around $200 in my country at the moment), and the HD 7770. It seems to be at the same level as a GTC 560 Ti (I could be wrong), apart from the fact that the latter has 2GB of VRAM instead of 1GB (sells on the same forum for around $210). I know that the HD 5850 is of an older generation, but at that price it really seems like a must-buy for me. Should I get it?
Another issue that I'm concerned about is if my CPU would bottleneck the HD 5850. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (3ghz), 8GB of DDR3 RAM (1333Mhz) and my motherboard is an Asus Rampage Extreme LGA775, for which I paid a lot of money at that time and never got to use it's huge overclocking potential. As far as I see it, bottlenecking with this CPU is inevitable, however I'd like to hear some opinions on this one. I'm considering buying an used Core 2 Quad. Before you ask, I'm not willing to give up my motherboard and buy a newer platform (mostly budget issues, and I feel it would be a real shame to replace the Rampage Extreme).
Thanks in advance!

Is the power cable connected.
Is the power cable connected.
24pin and the 4pin, yes. GPU power 6pin, yes.
Molex-es for the fan controller and IDE HDD and DVD player, yup.
Cleared CMOS too.

Does your power socket work.
Does your power socket work.
The fans power up, HDD and DVD player crankle when you boot them without connecting the IDE cable.
Why can afterburner control my fan speed, but not speedfan?

Haven't found any, but somebody is selling one (used I guess) for 25 euros. At a web auction.
In Estonia though.
My friend is looking for an ultra portable laptop for college. I recommended the ASUS Zenbook Prime, but I think they're getting a little old. What are the current players in the ultra book category and what should I recommend him? I'm assuming the price is pretty flexible, but around $1200.
I don't care about your prejudices about ultra-books and how useless they are or whatever.
Make sure they are running the same frequencies. Buying an overclocked card is worthless as it will try to match their speeds of the slowest. But like the other said 560 with a 560, 580 with a 580, 550 Ti with a 550 Ti, 650 with a 650, et cetera.
Alright, think I found a good card for the job
http://www.a-power.com/product-20127-353-1
My current card is an MSI Twinz Frozr with 880 mhz frequency, and the one I want to buy is 830 mhz. I guess my current one will need to slow down a bit, but is a 50 mhz difference really substantial, or is the difference small enough that the SLI will still make a bigger difference?

it doesn't even matter, I'm not sure why BRT even mentioned that. Just overclock your other card to match, it's a tiny difference and any card should easily OC to that level.
I guess one other issue is that my current 560 Ti has 2 gb of video memory, but from what I've heard the extra gigabyte on this model of card doesn't make much of a difference so I suppose the SLI configuration using CoolBits would still win out.
How much do you reckon I could fetch for a computer with 4GB RAM, Intel E8500 Duo Core 3.16Ghz cpu, and a Nvidia 9800 GTX+ gpu? (UK here)
Why can afterburner control my fan speed, but not speedfan?
Because speedfan is trash
Because speedfan is trash
Well is there another way to automatically control my fan speed (preferably one that also loads on boot)? My new fan runs at 56db (an offset to the amount of air it pushes) at 5000RPM and I'd like to hear myself think sometimes.

You can set custom fan curves in MSI afterburner and have it run on boot.

I don't suggest using that exact curve though, that was just the default one and it'll still be pretty loud.
Does it also work for case fans? Because my new one is rather loud and I would like to do the same for it.
afterburner is for gpu only
I use asus suite with fan xpert2 to control my case fans
Currently got a 1080p iiyama 24" screen.
Should I:
A: Buy a 1080p 27" screen for £230
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-asus-ve278q-led-monitor-hdmi-dvi-displayport-vga-1920x1080-300-cd-m2-2ms
Or
B: Buy a 1440p 27" screen for £460 (PLS Panel)
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-asus-pb278q-led-monitor-full-hd-hdmi-dp-dvi-2560x1440-5ms-300cd-m-800000001-speakers-black
Both ASUS.
Option B looks amazing but it's also very pricey. Is 1080p all that bad on 27" and will I notice the clarity difference from going from a 23.6" 1080p to 27"?
Could anyone help me with this please? It sort of got buried in other posts

Is there a way to do this is if my BIOS doesn't have a fan control option?
