Very much so I'd say. Vista was a hog for no reason. 7 actually used those resources for performance, windows 8 does a subjectively better job.
Neat. When upgrading, does it remove the old OS and all the programs that have to be reinstalled for you?
Neat. When upgrading, does it remove the old OS and all the programs that have to be reinstalled for you?
It's up to you. You can do an upgrade, or a clean install which is preferred. It will wipe the disk and install fresh. I'd backup and install fresh.
Can anyone recommend me a decent laptop? I've been looking but there's so many to choose from. I'll be using it for Uni and probably my job in the near future (Network systems tech). I'm willing to spend around the £500 mark. Should play HD videos fine, light games such as Minecraft, team fortress 2 etc smoothly. An i5 with dedicated graphics would be good. Also I like the look of the Dell inspirons, seem to meet my needs but not sure.

The AMD switchable graphics is terrible and doesn't support Minecraft, which means you'd be playing it on the Intel chip.
How's this one? http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-17r-5720/pd?oc=n0017r51&id=48ce81a6-df88-4e24-85bc-13ea1cf3c866&c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1
Tip: Buy Nvidia graphics. I updated my AMD Catalyst drivers today, and after it was done, Avast! came up telling me something about AMD FUEL being a rootkit, and it deleted it. Was that important? I continued to install SMITE, play it, play Primal Carnage, and than World of Tanks with no issues at all, and I even went into Catalyst fine.

Doesn't seem that bad then, I don't overclock.
Would a Xeon E5-2630 be alright with one of those $20 Intel fans or would I need something a bit better?
Both my desktop and my phone can connect to my wireless access point but only the phone gets net access. wtf help please
For some reason, lately, while I'm on my computer, the screen goes black from time to time. It comes right back when I shake the mouse, but it gets irritating because there's several in a row whenever it happens. It usually happens when I do things like open the task manager, arrive at my log-in screen, immediately after logging in, plugging in my iPod, etc. It's only been doing this for the past two weeks or so. Does anyone know what the heck is doing that, and how I can stop it? (if it matters I could post my specs)
Got a short question : AMD released their new drivers (13.1), should I download the new driver or should I keep the old version (12.10)? I heard some bad things about the beta drivers and since I already had problems with previous drivers I don't want to downgrade or wait for a new driver again.

So yeah, keeping up to date is always a good idea unless it introduces a blatant issue that requires you to revert.
I can't remember if it even existed, but could somebody please find me the app what will make full-screen apps act more like windowed ones? Aka, it won't close when you click on another window on another screen or smth like that? Or something what can make all games run windowed and noborder. [editline]26th January 2013[/editline] I kind of managed to find this: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=889521 but really, I am not sure how and what should I even use to compile this and so on.
Do engineering sample CPUs have a tendency to BSOD when on max load for long periods of time or are they the same as final release CPUs?
So the price for windows 8 is going to shoot up excessively, and I'm hoping to build a new PC at the end of this year. Would I have to buy the DVD, or does anyone know a way of buying just a product key for it and then being able to install the free Win8 RC version on the new PC, and activating it after? I'm worried of going through the 'Upgrade Assistant' in case the copy of W8 I buy is then only usable on my old desktop, and trying to keep OS costs as low as possible so I can spend more on my desktop!
I accidentally created 8234 files in a folder when attempting to create multiple 7zip files. Now I cannot open the folder without it explorer freezing. Is there a solution to this problem? I just want to delete the 8250 rars. [editline]26th January 2013[/editline] Scratch that. Turns out explorer was still reading all the files. It's at 227,000 now.

42.zip? Why can't you delete the folder?
42.zip? Why can't you delete the folder?
Windows checks if files are in use before it lets you delete them.
Don't use windows then? Linux LiveCD? Or "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" might be crazy enough to even work in that case.
After I changed the folder options to general rather than video and turned off grouping it at least doesn't crash when opening the folder anymore. Slowly deleting them bit by bit. [editline]26th January 2013[/editline]
42.zip?
Nah, it was me trying to create a .7zip
Why can't you delete the folder?
All my linux distros are in there.
