Thanks for the information. I will probably buy it this week. Only thing I'm wondering is will there be a big difference from a stock router I got off my provider? Does it improve speed or is it just better for range and allowing more connections to me made at the same time? Which is what I'm assuming is what causes my internet to die when I refresh server browsers
It's probably going to have much better build quality than whatever your provider gave you, for one.
So i installed my new 212+, and it keeps my shit cool, but the fan will not go below 100%. Speedfan won't do anything, and it only starts when windows loads up for about 10 seconds.

You probably need to change an option in your BIOS. I had the same problem when I got a new cooler.
Can upgrade my laptop GPU to a HD7970 for 230$, It currently has a FirePro 6000M.
What do you guys think?
Anyone knows how to administer a OpenVPN server? It's running Linux & I would like to be able to remove & add access for certain users - possibly measure data usage.

You can'd do that unless the manu specifically says you can. Laptop GPU's are soldered to the mainboard.

It's an MXM card, Pretty much all high end cards are 'standalone' cards.
They look like this

I read your post as Can I, rather than asking if you should.
Are you not doing much work anymore? $230 for a 7970M seems like a good deal. I don't do 3D, so I'd go for it.
My current specs are as follows:
i5 2500k OC'ed to 4.5GHz
CM Hyper Evo 212+ Cooler
10GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200RPM
120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD.
MSI 660ti 2GB Power Edition.
iiyama Prolite E2473HDS 24" LED Monitor 1920x1080 5ms
I currently have roughly £450/£500 to spare, and I am considering an upgrade to 1440p/27". I am steering away from Korean cheap alternatives because of the risk involved and lack of warranty and high import fee's. I have been leaning towards getting the Asus PB278Q cause of it's PLS panel, 5ms response time, 1440p res and wide range of inputs.
I generally play games such as CS:GO, League of Legends and some other FPS games. I originally bought the Viewsonic VX2770SMH-LED 27" 1080p. But it came with a blotch of dead pixels, it seemed blurry, black's didn't seem as deep as my 24" TN panel, so I returned it, got a refund and went back to my old monitor. I dunno whether this was a effect of it being IPS or 1080p. I've heard that there are better TN 27" 1080p Asus 1ms panels for FPS gaming but I have also heard 1080p is bad on anything higher than 24" at a 2ft max distance.
Could money be better spent on other PC hardware? Is 27" really too big? Was the blur on the Viewsonic because it was 1080p, or IPS, or that specific screen? Is the PB278Q good for gaming? Is 1080p still good for 27"? Just curious of people's thoughts on this.

Looked through my BIOS, there's nothing about fans. There was Cool & Quiet, but I disabled that.

Huh?
3 2gb sticks and a 4gb stick, 2 4 gb sticks and a 2gb stick, it could be a lot of different combinations. Although I don't know why he's doing it.

Multiple upgrades? That's how I ended up with 9GB. Came with 2x512MB, someone else added 4x1GB, then it was passed on to me, and I added 2x2GB.

Never too good having too many weird brands of stuff compatability wise. It works most of the time just fine though.

The reason is, my heatsink was on the wrong orientation, obscuring one of the RAM slots. I originally had 2x2GB Sticks. Then I bought 2x4GB, and gave one of my 2GB stick's to my friend until I move the heatsink around. That's why.
As long as the timings are all the same you will be fine.
And for reference, they're all the same model sticks + timings. (Corsair XMS3 Classic)
does overriding game settings with the ones from catalyst control center make games look better?
Does anyone type with the Dvorak keyboard layout?
Apparently it's faster and more efficient than the QWERTY layout, I've only recently discovered this and have been reteaching myself how to type with the dvorak keys... it's a slow start considering that I type over 90wpm average on the qwerty and went down to like less than 10wpm probably closer to 7 wpm

Trying to learn a new keyboard layout is really silly for a totally imaginary advantage.

I worry only that any possible benefits of switching to the dvorak layout are negated by its limited acceptance. On top of this, every application which relies upon keys being in some natural order (videogames, vim-like applications, etc.) will have to be manually configured to match the dvorak layout. I'm interested to know if you exceed your QWERTY speed any time soon, or if you find the dvorak layout any more comfortable. Godspeed.

You can switch between qwerty and dvorak quickly... But I'm gonna try out the dvorak for a while to see if I actually find it easier, so far obviously it's confusing because I've been touch typing on a qwerty keyboard for like 8 years, it'll take quite a bit of time to reach where I am now but what's to lose?

Considering QWERTY was designed to be hard to type on, I don't think so. It would be a huge pain re-binding all your shit in games though.
QWERTY ftw
Here's a question for you: I had some issues today with the office Airport networked speakers.
I was playing through VLC, and the audio was incredibly wrong. Even at full volume, it was very quiet, and it sounded about two or three octaves too low. And very distorted. This didn't happen to other people, who play through iTunes (which I refuse to install for numerous reasons).
I have no filters or effects enabled. It plays fine when using my local speakers. I'm using this as my stream output chain:
#transcode{acodec=alac,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:raop{host=192.168.1.26,volume=100}
I've done this before and had it work, but that was on a previous version of VLC. I updated a while ago and streaming to an Airport broke completely (VLC would crash while opening the stream). 2.0.5, the latest, fixed the crashing.
Can anyone think of something I could be doing wrong? Or should I just find an old version to revert to?

well I tried the management feature using telnet - didn't seem like it was a proper solution though.
I've been looking into buying a new monitor. As of present I've got a GTX 560TI, and my present monitor is a V223W from Acer(1680x1050). My questions are the following...
1.) 1920x1200 or 1920x1080?
2.) Any recommendations on brands and all that?

2) I had a Acer V223HQ - gave it to my mom after I got my BenQ XL2420T. The 120hz is great for gaming and provides a much more smooth experience. They have cheaper ones too though, I like the height adjust, swivel etc. too =P

You have more choice with 1080 but 1200 gives more screen space.

1080p is easier to find but 1920x1200 is still better

Anything on this list that I shouldn't have chosen?
Also, what's a good form factor 2.1 speaker set?
