Linux will probably save it. Just get a tiny liveCD
Yah are you enjoying an ICS OTA from Samsung for your Galaxy S? I'm not, because apparently Touchwiz uses too much ram to run it properly alongside ICS. But even 3GS owners are enjoying iOS 5.0.
[editline]15th April 2012[/editline]
I mean obviously I'm running an ICS custom ROM. But you have to think of the users that don't have the knowledge to do that themselves. They'll be stuck on Gingerbread until they buy a new phone, all because Google prostituted Android to OEMs and carriers and didn't regulate modifications that could hinder updates that work run fine otherwise.
Oh, I was thinking pain in the ass in terms of how difficult it might be to actually install an update, not the frequency thereof.
Ok I'll get the CM 690 II. Thanks guys.

I really doubt anything even outputs full 7.1 through 3.5mm

What are you talking about, lots of cards have four 3.5mm output ports (four stereo ports = 8 channels)

Don't get 7.1 headsets, they are bad and provide worse imaging, soundstage and quality than normal headphones.
If you want sound quality and great soundstage for games then post in the headphone thread listing your budget, uses and music preferences.
any good cases for micro-atx under 60$?
If you can find it anywhere, the Aerocool M40 is pretty nice, and a bit different from normal cases. I'd advice against getting a mATX case, though, as you're really locking yourself in.
another good one would be

Any suggestions for a decent desk mic? I don't want to go over $25, but I don't want to skimp the quality either.

whups :v:
anyone have any idea how big the performance jump would be between a GTX 570 and 670?
Perhaps 30-40%
580 to 680 is roughly 40-50%
Opinions on my first build? Budget not really important but I don't want to go crazy
Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V-Pro
CPU: Intel Ivy Bridge 3570k (when it comes out)
Graphics: Asus nVidia GTX680 2GB
Ram: Corsair 8GB C9 Vengeance
PSU: Corsair AX-850W
CPU Cooling: Noctua NH-D14
HDD1: Intel 520S 120G
HDD2: WD 1TB Black
Monitor: Dell U2410w 24in Ultrasharp IPS
Already got case, keyboard, mouse etc.

but it will be really expensive too wont it?
I can get a gtx 570 for 300 dollars and I'm unsure if I should wait for the next generation if I can't find a card that will perform the same for the same price.

Could get a 7870 for a little more, which is faster stock, uses less power, quieter and overclocks very well.

they're also 170 dollars more than the 570 I can get so it's not really an option.
If anything it would be a 7850 instead but I've heard they do worse than the 570.
570s are $300, cheapest 7870 is $330, am I missing something?

oh, maybe I'm using a wierd translator from SEK to dollars but however it translates 2000 SEK to 300 bucks (gtx 570) and 3200 SEK to 470 bucks. http://coinmill.com/SEK_USD.html
Those are the prices over here so it's a really good deal. The 570 isn't new, it's like second hand sorta stuff but with warranty.
The new 570s over here are 370 bucks as cheapest.
Oh I see, fair enough.
so do you think any card in the 600-series will be available for the same price for performance?
As BRT said, they'll be 30% better in performance (or around there) and will probably be a little more expensive, but not much.
Probably will run cooler, use less power, smaller card, and also will sport GPU boost for weaker games.
