Question I want to get a 120Mbit/s Internet connection, and obviously that requires a gigabit Ethernet adapter. Now my motherboard supposedly has one, but its settings only allow it to go up to 100Mbit/s: Is it because it's currently connected to a 100Mbit router? Will the 1Gb option appear when I plug it into a new router? Do I need a better ethernet card?
My friends GPU died for him today and he wonders what GPU he should go for, not really a budget but a GPU that is good for his system. Minor gaming will be done, like most advanced I have no idea but let say bc2? Intel Core i3-2105 3,1Ghz 4gb RAM 1tb HDD Need anything more?

Would I notice a large difference when moving from Phenom II 955 to Ivy Bridge? Was thinking about buying one in the next few weeks and also going from 4GB of memory to 8.
Pretty dumb ass question here: So I just got a Seagate 2TB Expansion External Hard Drive (ST320005EXA101-RK) ( Maker's Website)and based on the online manual (I haven't opened it yet), it's telling me to plug in the power cable and the USB cable. Then I was like, well shit. I can't use this hard drive on a laptop on the go? So I'm just checking, with this external hard drive, do I have to have to plug in a power plug in order for the hard drive to even have power or can I just simply plug in the USB cable only and it would work? Just checking so I can exchange this tomorrow if I need to.

So yes, you'll need extra power. those small 2.5 or 1.8" HD's can run off USB power though.

I could get this Toshiba 2.5' 1TB for the same price, but I know that it would be slow with just USB power. Alright then, I will stick with this 2 pound power-plug requiring brick on massive storage.
you should be able to run a 5900 RPM 3.5" drive off usb power
I'm looking to order a keyboard from WASD keyboards, and I'm a bit stuck on the switch part. I'm trying to decide whether the Cherry Red are worth $10 over the Cherry Black. The descriptions I found aren't too helpful, and I'd rather hear from an owner...
I'd just stick with blacks.
I have blacks on my keyboard, currently waiting on a new one with blues. Blacks are linear and have no tactile feedback, reds are the same but take less effort to press down. That being said the blacks were very easy to press down in the first place though I am a pretty heavy typist.
Looking for 2 monitors for my dad. They'll be identical, so we want a thin bezel. Requirements: Lowish Price, at least sub $200. Just be reasonable about it, he doesn't need an IPS panel (yet) Thin bezel Mounting holes on the back, we already have the mounts from Monoprice 1920x1080 or greater ~24", 23" is fine too. Speakers mean nothing, we won't be using them if they are built-in. Good quality/colors and stuff. That's why I'm asking you guys. Currently looking at THIS but I'm eager to hear other suggestions.
black alps no exceptions
Should I get Ivy for my first build? I'm just not sure whether the heat issues will effect me or not?
to give an easy answer, if you have to ask whether you'll have significant heat issues you won't be doing anything that would cause heat issues.
Should I get Ivy for my first build? I'm just not sure whether the heat issues will effect me or not?
Will only affect you if overclocking, 3770K idle & load temps ~ 2600K temps
Okay I'm going mainly for gaming, do I really need to overclock? I was planning to get 2500k equivalent (3750k?) and I've got an after market cooler (fan). [editline]24th April 2012[/editline] And of course there is price, maybe it's better to get a 2600k or something until it's really worth it? I could be talking crap here I don't know much about it

I could be talking crap here I don't know much about it
Overclocking is only really practical if you're on a tight budget but need the performance (Although some of the higher-end cooling solutions are expensive anyways), or you just want to push some extra juice out of your computer. It's definitely not needed for gaming unless you are pushing extremely high resolutions on demanding games. Anything under 1920x1080 on any game should be perfectly viable on fairly average hardware. I have a 2-year old computer with a new graphics card and I can play BF3 on pretty good settings at 1920x1080.
Looks like I'll go with Ivy. Thanks guys.
Hm, external Hard Drive comes with a USB cable labeled as USB 1.6 on the bag...
Hm, external Hard Drive comes with a USB cable labeled as USB 1.6 on the bag...
That can't be good. Anyone know a reliable way to hook up a PS2 to a PC monitor?
There's a pic of it [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/vi1Br.jpg?1[/thumb]
I don't think that's referring to universal serial bus USB.
There's a pic of it [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/vi1Br.jpg?1[/thumb]
Measure the length of that cable: I'm betting it's 1.6 meters.
I'll assume that it's USB 2.0 and will work as a USB 2.0
