I don't know, I always went by what my dad said. "If your comp runs fine then don't screw with it. Trust me, I learned the hard way." :v:
Here's a new saying for you: "The best way to learn something new is to screw it up again and again and again and again. Just make sure you have a backup." :v:
Well it turns out I don't need sp3 with this: "GTA IV PC Works fine with Windows XP SP2! I'm playing it now on my XP SP2 PC. The trick is to let GTA think you have SP3 on. Some app I Installed also wanted SP3 installed to run, but I was too lazy to download SP3 at the time so I tricked it. You can change/tweak what Service pack windows reports is installed by tinkering with the Registry. This works like a bomb! Here is how: (Only do this if you like tinkering with the registry!) Step 1: Run Regedit by Clicking on Start -> Run , type in regedit and press enter Step 2: Make a backup of your registry (just in case) Step 3: Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows" Step 4: Modify the value of "CSDVersion" from "0x00000200" (SP2) to the Windows XP SP3 value of "0x00000300" Step 5: Close registry editor Step 6: Reboot Step 7: Start GTA and freakin enjoy it already!"
Be careful with that, if some program sees it and thinks you have SP3 functionality you could be in trouble.
Yeah... so you'd rather go through all the trouble of fucking around the registry to fake sp3 than just DLing the update itself? Hurr.

You will run into more trouble like this than if you would just install it properly.
Wow. You'd rather fuck around with registry keys than get an update? There's nothing wrong with SP3, I have it on both my machines, and they run faster than they did before. Just install it.
Just be aware for some messed up reason certain updates cannot be installed under SP3 but is not actually included in SP3, particularly the Link Layer Topology Responder and one or two other things I'm not entirely sure about. But you'll want that at least, as it helps networking functionality with Vista and 7 machines.
I run it and it's fine. Just get it, contains multiple security updates and fixes. And unless you want to waste your money and throw away the video card I recommend installing it. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bb794714.aspx :)
Change that back and install SP3 properly. You will run into more trouble like this than if you would just install it properly.
I've done that and I had no problems at all.
Just install SP3 already you dolt.
Depending on your specs SP3 may run faster or slower for you. I never used it when I heard it was trying to bridge the gap between Vista and XP, so I skipped SP3 and went with 7.
Wow, install SP3 man, Microsoft wouldn't release an update if it wouldn't be save.

Guys I would but I have heard so many bad things about sp3, so I never thought it was worth it. If you are using XP and are using sp3 post and say how it runs. Yes I am a dumbass but it's the only way.
I used to be on XP and SP3 was just fine. AFAIK there's nothing major in it anyway, it's mostly just a collection of patches.

Well I got it and my boot up scared the fuck out of me. It was slow and new things came up.
SP3 takes away the address bar.
Are you serious? Unlock toolbars, drag it down.
Are you serious?.
No.
No.
Yes.
SP3 only had problems long ago the month of its release, and only with Athlon/Athlon XP processors. Get it.
DurHur windows is out to break my pc because it works. I thought Fp people were computer literate. Seems to be going downhill lately.
Service Pack 3 is filled with viruses created by MS, don't install it
I thought Fp people were computer literate.
Hahaha.

The only difference I've noticed is a different graphic in the downloader on internet explorer.
I don't leave the barricade there's bad people out there unclean unclean unclean
I always stay inside HW&SW, it keeps me sane.. But when the outsiders come into the HW&SW then we will be massacred by dumb threads and retarded people
I just manually slipstream Service packs into XP Install CDs. Saves loads of time after installation to run Windows update and have the major Service Packs pre-installed. :)
