except that the build I linked will more than likely already play every current and upcoming games at the highest settings at the resolution of the monitor you chose. spending so much money is highly unnecessary not to mention irresponsible.
you require additional monitors

Well, he said $3000 dollar budget, not I want something that will just barely play everything on max settings.
Edit:

:downs:
aquire 2 more of the same monitor
that will cost like 400 dollars
i7 920 200 dollars
some x58 mobo 250?
sli gtx 580 1000 dollars
windows 100 dollars
ax1200 250 dollars
12 gb ram 250 dollars
some case 250
dvd drive 20
main harddrive 60
ssd 200
some keyboard 50
some mouse 50
With that budget, you should definitely consider GTX 580s, or Crossfire 6850 or 6870s.
I agree, if I had that much money, spend it good!
Does the OP actually want a multi-screen setup? With 3k that's pretty achievable (and will look awesome at the same time).
i would go with a main screen and a side screen. the main screen should be atleast 1900x1100 if it is for gaming

"just barely" is really underplaying it, the 6870 will shred through everything at 1920x1200, if the OP wants to spend $3000 then he can feel free, but it'll be a waste of money. I assume the reason he came here was for PC building advice, which means helping him get the best bang for his buck, not find $3000 worth of parts on newegg and build a computer with it.
regarding the overkill PSU: http://techreport.com/articles.x/19844/15
also yeah, lol @ that picture, I didn't know it was possible to rate one-self, I've been gg'd :P

Not really, it will struggle with Metro 2033.
Not really, it will struggle with Metro 2033.
can you really recommend spending over $300 more on a GTX 580 just to run that one game?
I plan on keeping this computer for a very long time, hence the overkill in the parts.
I have said multiple times that I am getting dual GTX 580's. [sp]waiting for a price drop[/sp]
Also, I have two 1920x1080 monitors, and I have thought about a multi-screen setup.
I will post a pic of my revised list.

I never said so, but that doesn't mean it's true when you say it will run everything at max.
And OP, don't get two GTX 580.

from the thread I linked you in my first post:
2. Q: What's the best way to future-proof my system/make it run top end games for 5 years?
A: YOU CANNOT FUTURE-PROOF, don't even bother trying. Buy parts with the best price-to-performance value for your money now, and save the rest. Anything you buy today will be outclassed by what's available in 2-3 years, regardless of if you spent $1000 or $4000.
For example, if someone tried to future-proof a gaming system three years ago, they would have gotten an Athlon X2 4200, a 7950 GX2, and paid ~$3000 for all of it. Today, it would creamed by the OP's $1000 "sweet spot" system. Someone who bought midrange back then ($1000) and upgraded again to midrange two years later ($800) would have spent less money and probably would have a C2D E6750 and 8800GT; substantially faster parts that are still usable.

That was just one example.
I know this thread is mostly dead, but I had quite a bit of fun putting this build together. Whole reason I started making this was I was browsing cases and saw this one that had EATX support. Cue making a "budget" 2 processor system.

Good to know, thanks. I'll update it with Xeons. Reason I picked the xclio was the cool 256 color light system. Didn't know the HAF supported eATX, either.
gtx 470 kinda lame

The Supermicro one doesn't support SLI and those PCI-Es don't even have to those clip things. Also, for the amount of extra features such as overclocking and up to 4-Way SLI, I think it would be worth it to spend a little more on the case. Also, the cheapest dual QPI Xeons are the E5620($364) which are quad core with a stock speed of only 2.4 Ghz.

Well I was leaving the monitor and periphs up to the OP because I don't know shit about monitors or periphs. I just know what works.
