Hey, So I'm looking to upgrade my PC. Current setup: 3gb DDR2 667Mhz RAM GeForce 8600GT Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33Ghz 500W PSU Dell 0RY007 Motherboard I am going to buy a new case, possibly more ram and a new graphics card. I will be changing my motherboard to a different one I had already bought last year for another PC build that never got made in the end. That motherboard is a "Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 Rev2 (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard". I also will be using a better CPU cooler than I am at the moment (current PC is prebuilt Dell one). Now my question is this: which graphics card should I buy? Currently looking at either: Nvidia 1Gb 9800GT http://www.ebuyer.com/product/171941 OR ATI Radeon 512MB HD 4870 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-143-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=939 I have only really ever used Nvidia cards so I'm not exactly sure how well the 4870 compares to the 9800Gt, help me out? Please note I have a budget of about £120 to buy all of these things (ram, case, gpu) so I am looking for a card at around 80-£100. No higher please. Thankyou to all who post!
If you're going to upgrade your motherboard you'll need a new power supply.
Well the one with the Dell was some crappy 300W but I recently just changed it over to a 500W one that I bought at the same time as the motherboard.
The 4870 dominates the 9800GT.
You don't need a fancy case, just go with something that works (budget!). 4GB of DDR2 should run you under 40$, which should be around 25E. As for graphics, if you need budget, go with a 4850. If you can, however, get a 4870 (which I see is what you're looking at. Completely owns the 9800GT).
Alright thanks for the reply guys, looks like I will take the ATI card. I was going to upgrade my case because this shitty dell one is really small and won't take the bigger card. Also it has one fucking fan, my card idles at 60C. Thanks!
