Set your laptop so it shares the network over the ethernet. I had to do it for a while, it's a pain, but it worked.
Done that [editline]10:21PM[/editline]
OP probably has but did you try a regular ethernet cable? If that didn't work it's really simple, if you have a spare ethernet cable lying around you just cut it and connect 4 wires. It's not rocket science.
It is for me. I'm half retarded.
XBOX360 supports auto switching, so crossover or regular straight through cables will work. Is the OP using the bridge connection feature in windows, because that's how I always use laptops to give wireless access via ethernet? I believe this is correct
it could depend on the laptop, if the nic in the laptop does not have auto switching (crossover reconition) then what some of you have said would not work, so he would need to either splice the cable as mentioned or get a cross over cable there are no 2 ways about it.
xbox 360's already have it built in so any configuration should work
Devices that are made after about 2001 automatically detect an ethernet cable between 2 points and then does the necessary switching. You only need one device that supports it to work. Personally, I've never gotten ICS to work in XP for whatever reason. I'm guessing your problem might be related to the Xbox getting an IP address.

Also I'm using Vista
You need to get a crossover cable I think, not just a regular ethernet cable [editline]07:41PM[/editline] http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=crossover+cable&x=0&y=0 Just pick the right length
Most modern outers swap them over anyway... Crossover cables are rarely needed these days. [editline]09:11AM[/editline] Just read a bit further. 360's may not have this... Their not exactly routers. [editline]09:13AM[/editline] Also I think what your talking about is a USB modem. Which is more than likely broadband. Dial up is incredibly different. And I'm fairly sure 56kb/s isn't quick enough for xbox live..
