Dat CD drive
I didn't even realize how big it was until I saw that.
I'll take twe- on second thought, not today.
Shipping/Freight itself would cost 10 times the price of the actual bid at least.
I wish I had money, I'd buy that.

nah
If you can collect it would be a decent price for the rack ... Assuming it's a standard 19" rack.
This would be awesome to use with 3D rendering.
OMG I'd so get one of these!
Just have a look at the IRIX 6.5 desktop:

:flashfap:
I'd stuff each motherboard with 32GB of DDR3, 6-core i7 CPUs, RAID as many SSDs together as possible for speed, and run Folding@Home 24/7.

If you were going to do something like that why would you even bother buying this? You'd have to replace everything
Thats fucking massive, At first I thought it had the size of a big tower.

Do you even know how a computer works?
Whoever purchases that beauty, should also get one of those bigass Sony FW900 24" CRTs... that'd be absolutely INSANE
[editline]22nd February 2011[/editline]
In all seriousness, I wouldn't really know what to do with it if I had it... maybe cross-compile Linux kernels or stuff like that

Of course, he's a Wii hacker.
Does anyone know how tall it is?
Does anyone know how tall it is?
really fucking tall
Um, exact specs?
Do you even know how a computer works?
Yep, I fix them on the side for cash. Pays well too. :3:

There is no G-brick so it has no onboard graphics.

If you want to use Irix's 4DWM desktop (by the way, it was designed back in the 80's and has not changed much since) you will need to setup another SGI with graphics (an O2, Fuel, or Octane will work) and configure it as the remote graphical front-end. G-bricks are hard to come by and add another 30 amps to the power consumption.
30amps? Holy shit

That's great you can replace a graphics card that obviously means you're qualified to talk about all computing topics
Can it run Doom?
Glorified hair blow dryer.
Can it run Doom?
Can Doom run on a MIPS CPU? It's open source now, so it probably can. You'll just need a video card (one that's compatible with the system you dumb nuts).
All this talk about it being able to run Crysis or whatever modern game is asinine. It's not a shitty Wintel machine which is what games are compiled to run on.

Buzz Killington? :saddowns:
Doom is included as freeware on the Irix Applications disc (The complete Irix OS install set is at least 12 cd's and costs $600). It has been since the release of Irix 6.5.0 in 1998.
[img_thumb]http://www.sgistuff.net/software/irixintro/images/irix-6.5-img1.gif[/img_thumb]
Quake II and III was also released for Irix. Same with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere.
There are a remarkably large number of SGI hobbyists. A lot of us run these things out of our garages or kitchens (as to share the plug for the oven).

Ernest Goes to Jail
I've got this kind of money burning a hole in my pocket, if it doesn't go over $400 I'll start bidding at the last minute

You have no idea how dumb you are, do you?

Also I'd get this thing just to run DOOM and compile animations.
