Is it a bad idea to vacuum clean the inside of you computer? And is there any risk to using a screwdriver with a magnetized head?
Is it a bad idea to vacuum clean the inside of you computer? And is there any risk to using a screwdriver with a magnetized head?
1. Somewhat, be a little careful with it and I wouldn't really touch it against circuitry, go ahead and suck out heatsinks with it, and excess dust 2. that's totally fine
I vacuum the dust filters but honestly, they're terrible for getting dust out, they just don't pull enough air. If you really want to get dust out get some compressed air or an air compressor (more expensive in the short term, but will save you money later as compressed air adds up).

Can anyone recommend a good monitor? Under £100. I had this in mind but I don't know anything about monitors: grhttp://www.ebuyer.com/196524-lg-21-5-w2246s-bf-lcd-monitor-w2246s-bf http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-VH226H-21-5-16-9-LCD-Monitor-2-ms-Black-/250889097790?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Monitors&hash=item3a6a27d23e
Decided it's time to get a SSD. Narrowed it down to a OCZ Vertex III Max IOPS or an Intel 510 (both 120GB). While the price difference is negligible, the Vertex 3 seems to be faster (quite a bit in a few cases, and that's not even the Max IOPS version) than the 510, but the Vertex 3 also has a failure rate of 2.50% versus the 0.75% of the 510. Leaning towards the Vertex 3, because even if it has a few times higher failure rate, it's still not big at all, not to mention that being a relatively new technology that is developing very quickly, even if it fails in 3 years instead of 5 it's not that big a deal, as newer, better and cheaper ones will be out already.
When I try to install Windows 7 64-bit (my current one is 32bit) then I get an error saying there's a missing CD/DVD device driver, but I haven't even got a CD drive in my computer! Why is this happening? Thanks [editline]15th September 2011[/editline] this is what's happening [t]http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/769/27163970.jpg[/t]
Corrupt copy of 7? Also I have recently installed Vista again and now I want to remove Windows 7 on my C: partition, but how can I do it without fucking the entire bootloader over? Here's my partitions if it matters:
Is there anyone with any experience with the Ubuntu OS?
Is there anyone with any experience with the Ubuntu OS?
I have enough experience with Linux that I could probably fuck around with the new Ubuntu version in a VM to try to solve your problem.
I have no idea how my motherboard is still working. I've dropped magnetic screwdrivers on it at least 6 times. I just can't hold on to them for some reason. :v:
Is there anyone with any experience with the Ubuntu OS?
bad experiences, yes

Try connecting a disc drive, installing and then removing the drive.
Where can I get some wallpapers for my monitor? Like good ones. 2560+
Where can I get some wallpapers for my monitor? Like good ones. 2560+
Make them. If you want a game screenshot, take one in the highest graphics settings you can. Or take a camera, and walk around and get a good picture.
I need a way to boot from an extracted iso on another partition. I'm being stupid, but I figured if I could do it to a USB drive I could do it to a physical drive. Optionally, I need a way to erase the partitions boot sector shit so I can redo it myself.
I recently got Windows 7, and the little icons in the task bar next to the system time are in a drop-down menu. I recall that in XP there was a way to show inactive icons, does anybody know how to do this for Windows 7?
Inactive icons? You mean hidden icons? Just drag them down to the area next to the clock.
Inactive icons? You mean hidden icons? Just drag them down to the area next to the clock.
Useful, thanks.
Right click on the taskbar...
First thing I tried, didn't work.
For some reason filming a low light video on a poorer quality camcorder seems to make the video choppy
The camera lengthens its exposure for each frame to allow in more light.
You clicked on always show? That's what you wanted right?
Yeah, I got it working. Thanks anyways. I'm still figuring out how to use it, not all settings are enabled by default.
http://wallbase.cc/
Oh god. I just came. The search by color feature is just... oh god... OHHH.. OOOHHHHHH Thank you. [editline]16th September 2011[/editline] Downloaded like 50 of them and put them on shuffle. I'm so glad Win7 has many of these small little features like rotating wallpapers. I hope Windows 8 keeps adding in tools we normally get from thirdparties.
Why can you not build a computer It's very simple and takes 3hrs at most if your going at a turtles pace
Because I have no idea how and I do not have any tools to do so. Really it would be easier just to buy one that is already made.
Because I have no idea how and I do not have any tools to do so. Really it would be easier just to buy one that is already made.
It's really not that difficult. I had no experience building PCs and managed to build my own earlier this year. All you need are a few screwdrivers and a youtube video to follow in case you think you might forget a step.

My PC just stopped turning on today. Last night we had some weird electricity problems going on, like momentary black outs several times that caused restarts and stuff. So when I was going to bed, I pushed the on/off switch, heard the windows chime through the speakers (the monitor was turned off) and went to bed. This morning I didn't even turn on the PC, went out and came back sometime in the afternoon, and now nothing happens when I push the on/off button. There is also a slight burning smell (kind you get from wires/plastic burning) in the case itself. I checked the connections in the case and the power cable and there is power in the sockets since everything else connected to the socket works. When I try to turn it on, nothing happens, no lights come on, no fans start turning, so I believe whatever went wrong is about the PSU (although other parts might have also been damaged I am not sure yet and I don't have a spare PSU or one I can borrow to test it out). The PSU itself is about 4-5 years old, so maybe something finally gave way. The only way I can think of to fix it is to buy a new PSU. Does anyone else have any other ideas what went wrong or do you think I am correct in my diagnosis and plans on buying a new power supply?
No one got to me last page, So I am reposting
Not really. Upgrade GPU and wait for Bulldozer.
A 480 is still really good I would say.
