so many negatives confuses me HP monitor only works in safe mode and other OSes, other monitor works in normal mode, too. I assume it just doesn't support the resolution you have set in nonsafe mode, and safemode defaults to a lower one so it works (doesn't it?)
Sorry for the terrible wording on my part.
What OS? Any? Get FreeNAS
Run some flavor of *NIX. SFTP is built into SSH, and that comes standard with most distros these days. Then just use FileZilla on the Windows 7 box.
During installation, after the restart, you don't boot onto the disc. You boot onto the hard drive, where the installation finishes.
Thanks! Installed it now.. didn't realize how slow things were before.
Should I upgrade my computer to be able to play some new games well coming out this year? (Think Battlefield 3) Here are my specs, sorry if I leave something out: Windows 7 (64 bit) Intel Core Duo CPU 3.00 GHz 4 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

Any recommendations for what I should get? Which parts aren't good enough? (I'm not very good with computer hardware)
http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/The_FalconO6/CurrentLogicalPCBuyingGuide/Guide.png This should help.
I appreciate the help, but I'm still pretty confused.. sorry.
I probably misunderstood you. Were asking what's good in term of performance and value or what is what in a computer?
My graphics card just croaked on me today, and now I am tasked with finding a replacement. It was a Geforce 8800 gt, and I have been very satisfied with its performance. I am considering getting the same model, however, I am unsure about an appropriate price, and it's been difficult to find a reliable retailer. I've found it on Amazon (here) for $100, but I'd have to buy it from some individual seller rather than Amazon. I've also found a Geforce 9500 gt for $70. I have little knowledge about video card quality, and I'd appreciate some help. Can anyone offer some input on this? I'd like to spend $100 or less. Can anyone recommend a good card?

Any recommendations for something a little more than $100? It's not a very solid budget - just would be nice to spend less than that.

Yeah, 550 Watts. One of these: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3942984&CatId=1079
Should work fine, I have a 1GB version on a Corsair 500W PSU, but yours may not have two PCI-E connections; if it doesn't it's not a big deal, but you'll have to use the converter cable it comes with.

I'll most likely get that GTX 460 tomorrow.
judging by your posting on an iPad I can see you really know how to waste money
Ohohohohohoho Now can we post something useful.
I got a Magnavox Movie Maker from a thrift store today. The thing was made in 1985, but afaik it works perfectly. I need two things. One, a way to convert the VHS tapes I record on it to an editable file on my computer that I can then transfer to a disc. Two where can I find an adapter for it.
I have to manually install all drivers, and then update them with the fucking BIOS because ASUS can't get their shit together...
My Win7 Desktop doesn' connect to my Smartphones Wifi. My Netbook however does. It's WPA2-Personal secured. no problems with the netbook. I can connect with the Desktop when I have no encryption but I don't want to do that. Any ideas? Manually setting up the WiFi network instead of just "connecting" to it did nothing.
Are Hale90 good PSU? I assume not.
They are actually good. Also, I'm pretty sure bad quality 80 plus gold PSU's are almost nonexistant because of the quality stuff you need to put it to meet the spec.

You can't really count on it alone, you'll have to look up reviews.

I guess this is as good a place to ask as any. I have this picture, same resolution as my monitor, that looks fine on it's own. Nice quality, no visible artifacts, etc. But when I set it as my wallpaper it drops in quality so much that it keeps bugging me and I don't know why it keeps doing this. Anyone have an idea to keep the same quality? Or at least explain why it loses quality in the first place?
