I was expecting this, you always have problems with whatever anyone suggests there's nothing wrong with XFX, just because you have problems with one unit doesn't mean they're all bad, every brand will get bad batches and no product can be perfect if you've got a problem with seasonic's work for XFX then you won't want most of the corsair units that match what you need, or a lot of good units from antec, so maybe you should start looking at spending 2-3x as much on enermax
I'm not saying that they're bad, just that I personally have had a bad experience with one. [editline]9th October 2011[/editline]
Does anyone know when the 6xx and the 7xxx series are coming out?
Sometime in the next 3 years.
All the computer stores around me are apparently having a shortage of high end graphics cards, due to everyone upgrading for BF3/skyrim I drove to like 6 different places trying to find the right pair of cards but i had to settle for just one 6950 until monday Anyone have a 6950 that was in the BF3 beta? its too late now for me cus i have slow internet to download it i just want a general indication of what i can expect with a single 6950, 2500k, 8gb 1600MHz, @1920x1080
If it's anything similar to the 560 GTX, BF3 ran pretty good for me. I can play Crysis 1 on high, but my highest resolution is 1280x1024.
don't expect to max it, but it ought to run okay, depending on resolution. 6970 here, i get around 55 fps on maximum, 85~ in the smaller tunnel areas of Metro
Best modular PSU for a 6870 with possible future CF? Preferably >£100 currently looking at http://www.scan.co.uk/products/575w-psu-thermaltake-tpx-575mpcuk-modular-89eff-80-plus-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-fan-atx
You're computer literate so you pretty much know what you should be going for, reapaninja recommended the XFX line and they're great but personal preference is king, the thermaltake you linked is definitely a great PSU, quiet, rated at 50c, single rail for easy-ness and offers the power for two 6870's later on so that'd be a wise choice. Other options that are easy on the wallet include Cougar CMX, the new Be Quiet PSU's (630w going for a good price on scan), Cooler master silent pro's, Modular striders and the Antec TruePower series regardless of what the poster with the dog avatar posts about their capacitors. And if you don't mind spending £100 or near you can get a Corsair, Decathlon or high end Zalman. But the thermaltake is a great choice, without going for 650w or upwards though or paying premium you'd have to resort to molex adapters for the 2nd 6870 for all of these.
Can Tor be used with IRC?
Yes.
Update on my OCing shit. I plugged up a bunch of holes on my comp, where fans used to be, and cleaned everything out, and put new paste on my CPU. I'm now running it at 3.5 ghz, and it's not getting above 50c on idle.
Does anyone know when the 6xx and the 7xxx series are coming out?
Apparently roughly around or after April next year.
but personal preference is king,
what are you talking about preferring a piece of shit doesn't stop it from being a piece of shit opinion has nothing to do with it, something is either good or bad, better or worse than another, and your views on it will not change this it's like saying you like the number 1 more than 3 which makes 1 a higher value

except it's satanix and his only preference is for stupidity and being awkward about any suggestions given to him e.g. buying an overclocked 570 for nearly the price of a 580
I expect more from Satanix.

That
except it's satanix and his only preference is for stupidity and being awkward about any suggestions given to him e.g. buying an overclocked 570 for nearly the price of a 580
I hardly call £100 nearly. Basically, reap is pissed off that I got the Gigabyte SOC series which is about £20 more than the Twin Frozr. What he doesn't know is that it was £30 off that day. [editline]9th October 2011[/editline] I can't find any of Cougar's products on either Scan or Overclockers UK.
If a GPU gets too hot, will it automatically shut down the most "demanding" program?
If a GPU gets too hot, will it automatically shut down the most "demanding" program?
It either stops/slows down the video card to cool down for a few moments or shuts the entire computer down, I think.

I've got two GTX 560 Ti cards in SLI, with NVIDIA Surround. My mobo is stupid, so there's literally no space in between the cards. One card gets really goddamn hot when I play games. We're talking 90C + A few weeks ago I've been seeing artefacts in Minecraft, but only on the left display (coincidentally, the display connected to the card that's getting hot as fuck). Obviously I assume it's a heat issue. Contacted Palit support, they suggested get a new mobo with better spaced-out slots so there's space in between. I can't find one that's affordable / 1366 / spaced out properly. Recently, I've been getting artefacts in pretty much every game I play. Not just on the one screen like Minecraft, like textures having seizures and psychedelic colours going everywhere. This happens whether I'm using NVIDIA Surround or not. So, my question: Since I'm now getting artefacts in every game I play regardless of temperature, is my graphics card fucked? (the hot one) Is there a program I can use or something to test the cards seperately? I guess I could take out one and try, then switch and try again to see if it's the card. -Edit- Second question : With motherboards like this one: Can I do this: I'm only asking because my current mobo (ASUS P6T) doesn't let me do that, so they're stuck together causing this whole heat problem.

It seems that they test and label their power supplies at 25º C, and they behave badly under higher temperatures. (We test power supplies between 45º C and 50º C, and semiconductors lose their ability to deliver current and power, and efficiency drops, with temperature.) The A-Series 560 W presented decent efficiency between 83% and 84%, when we pulled between 20% and 60% of its labeled wattage (i.e., between 112 W and 336 W). At 80% load (448 W), efficiency dropped to 81%. At full load, however, efficiency dropped way below the 80% mark, at 77.8 percent. We wonder how this unit got the 80 Plus Bronze certification. Also, this unit has a voltage regulation problem, with its +5VSB and +3.3 V getting outside the proper range as you approach the unit’s labeled power. Because of these problems, we can’t recommend this product.
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cougar-RS-650-W-Power-Supply-Review/1323/10
The Cougar RS 650 W is, in reality, a 600 W power supply, as it explodes if you try to pull more than 600 W from it. We tested two samples, with the same results. Users buying this unit probably won’t pull anywhere close to 600 W or 650 W. We believe that manufacturers must label power supplies with their true wattages. Therefore, we can’t recommend this unit.
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cougar-CMX-700-W-Power-Supply-Review/1317/10
The main problem with this power supply is voltage regulation. Starting at 560 W, voltages got outside their allowed range, what can make your computer behave erratically. We tested two samples, and both presented the same problem. Therefore, we can’t recommend this unit.
[editline]9th October 2011[/editline] now stand up and go back to your runescape forum, they'll be dumb enough to tell you what you want to hear with is clearly the only thing you want
Can anyone suggest a good sturdy mouse? I'm a big fan of good build quality and side buttons on the mouse are essential now that I'm used to using them for push to talk. Wireless is a plus but not essential. No ricer mouses please, never ever mention Razer.
words
Get an aftermarket cooler for the top card that won't get blocked, like the thermalright spitfire.
I have my 560 Ti OC'd to 975 mhz core clock, 1950 mhz shader clock and 2200 mhz on memory clock. It idles at around 35c with low fan speeds, and gets to about 63c while under full load on the BF3 beta. Voltages are default, so would it be safe to overclock it further? It's stable so far...
ok, i figured i asked here just in case this was not worth a thread. So, im looking for a SSD for my laptop (it can hold 2 hard drives, the one already inside is 750gb HDD). What are the important things that i need to know? I know i need a 2.5" form factor, im looking for enough space just to hold my OS (windows 7 obviously) so it boots up faster and maybe fit tf2 if it will speed up load times. What companies are reliable/sketchy, and what features to compare when buying one. I would appreciate the help, thanks.
I was trying my hand at overclocking and reached the point where I needed to reset my CMOS. Did that, and also had to reset the time. I reset the time to where it should be and after a few minutes of being in Linux, my screen goes black, logs me out of a chat and goes to the screensaver. I later found out that ntpd was resyncing the time, so I check the logs and I see this in my boot log:
Sun Oct 9 11:07:51 2011: boot: Superblock last write time is in the future.
The actual time I started it was 18:07:51 and I know I set my time correctly (I went and rechecked it), however it seems to be behind by about 7 hours. How could this be fixed rather than making an offset in the BIOS clock? Edit: Actually, I remembered that I had clock drifts with the hardware clock before I tried the OC (I got a daemon that tracks time via a time pool online because it was so bad), so I'll just modify settings in the daemon instead.

[editline]10th October 2011[/editline]
Get an aftermarket cooler for the top card that won't get blocked, like the thermalright spitfire.
Interesting, will that work with GTX560 Tis? I might be warranty-ing the overheating card as it's artefacting with every game I play now, but this would be quite useful if/when I get a replacement card.

Explorer: Windows Media Player: I'm wondering if this is a corrupt file issue or if it could possibly be caused from a custom theme?
Still have this problem. I also have another problem. After some time (not sure how long or under what circumstances for why this happens) the thumbnails for aero peak disappear. Bringing the program back to the front regenerates the thumbnail, but it's really annoying for things like folders or many windows of the same program.

From what I've seen, the first slot is x16/x8, the second slot is x8, and the third slot is something lesser (x4 I believe).

My fps didnt change when I set my setting from high to low and only got lower when I maxxed out everything + AA. Conclusion:With that I5 you will be able to run the game on high with a few setting on ultra. Bear in mind though that DICE said the Beta graphics where capped.
