I think you can but it would be less efficient as opposed to putting it in the second pcie 2.0 slot. From what I've seen, the first slot is x16/x8, the second slot is x8, and the third slot is something lesser.
According to the manual, the third slot is x4 when using SLI, even though it's listed as an x16 slot. I dunno. :S
I'm going to the store tomorrow to buy a longer SLI bridge - mine doesn't reach - and I'll see if there's much of a performance difference.
Even if it's a small drop in performance, I'd take that over an overheating card. If it's too big I might buy a new mobo with a faster port or something.

Tell me how this works out; I am interested in SLIing two 560ti's someday.
Is the 5870 still a reasonable card for the games coming out October November excluding BF3
As i can't upgrade at the moment moneys tight

I think as long as you dont turn on DX11 you are okay.
I'm rocking a 5770 and I'm running BF3 good.
Can anyone suggest a good sturdy mouse?
I'm a big fan of good build quality and side buttons on the mouse are essential now that I'm used to using them for push to talk.
Wireless is a plus but not essential.
No ricer mouses please, never ever mention Razer.
Ive got a Logitech MX Revolution because I model alot in Inventor and Solid edge.
Alot of buttons which you can program to do all kinds of things,
I have also been using it for 3 years now and take it to school every day and its still in one piece and the battery still last a week. (The new ones can be charged while using them)
Also I cant live without the flywheel scroll annymore.
They are very pricey though but if this one ever gives in I am buying another one.
I think as long as you dont turn on DX11 you are okay.
An esitmated guess on how long before an upgrade is needed id preferably prefer to upgrade mid next year
You won't need to upgrade until the next generation consoles are released, but if you want to blast through games easily you can get a 2nd 6870 when the 7000 series is released for cheap.
Can I run a movie on my TV through HDMI with Audio on the TV and do something on my main screen with Audio over the speakers?
and if you're going to quote figures, quote them from the relevant time, not months ahead in a market where prices and availability of products change daily
and of course you don't see a problem, you'd probably buy diablotek, logisys and the like without a second thought, at least when they explode you'd have a legitimate reason to hate them
the difference is between companies who make mediocre or just plain bad PSUs and people who make decent PSUs, and with HEC usually oeming for lower quality cheaper units I wonder which category they fall into more
great review site by the way, why do detailed reviews of PSUs with the proper equipment when we can check they turn on and run without exploding for a few seconds

now stand up and go back to your runescape forum, they'll be dumb enough to tell you what you want to hear with is clearly the only thing you want
The prices for the 570 haven't changed noticably. There hasn't been a GPU series release (ie 7xxx) since then, so at most they'll have changed a few pounds.
You may have a point about the particular Cougar PSU you were talking about, but that's a completely different PSU from a different series than the one i'm talking about? It's clearly a completely different unit with a completely different level of quality.

Should be able to if your GPU supports audio.

if you'd pay more attention, each review is from a different series
none of their PSUs use a different OEM, HEC is using their own
HEC make bad PSUs
surely even you can recognise the pattern here
either start listening or buy a piece of shit, just stop wasting your time here
and GPU prices have since gone up, at the time cheaper 570s were £230-240, it's now £250 and badly stocked
580s were around £320-330, now £360
significantly more than a couple of quid
even recently scan announced prices were going up pretty much across the board for all components due to large changes in exchange rates
there are far more factors to product pricing than recent releases, e.g. currency values, prices of materials, competition between individual stores, stock levels
Are there any new GPU series coming in before Q1 2012? I haven't checked hardware stuff in a while. I may consider building another PC, but I can wait.
I randomly emailed a local internet cafe/PC shop at the start of summer asking for a job, and they decided to reply yesterday! I've got a job interview set up this Saturday, what should I expect?

AMD is bringing out their new Bulldozer CPU's, that could be accompanied by a GPU release.
Need an OS to install on a 600MHz Celereon with 64MB or 128MB of RAM. It has 98SE on it right now but are there any better choices? Needs to be windows.

You could use Win2k.

If prices are going up across the board, then the approximate ratio of 570:580 prices would be the same. Just think of it this way, that 570 was the cheapest at the time I ordered it because it was £30 off.
About the PSU's, who said anything about OEM? To be fair, the one you linked may be a pile of shit, however that doesn't automatically mean the SX550 is - every review says to the contrary. The SX550 is "targeted at enthusiasts" so it will obviously have far better quality parts than the pile of shit you linked.
Is there a way to make your audio input act as an audio output? So I can plug in speakers where I put in my microphone? I heard from a friend that it was possible in some way.

again try reading because they're still proper professional reviews to three separate PSUs which were all shite
the OEM matters because it's still HEC making them, they make low quality PSUs therefore the PSUs you are determined to buy are low quality, how is that hard to understand
link the reviews because I have a very strong feeling you're just going by whatever site tells you what you want to believe, regardless of how bad their reviews of PSUs are
right now it's your word against well done analysis with proper equipment
hint: if they're not using the proper equipment, it's no more use than a newegg review by some idiot who thinks because it works for 5 seconds his diablotek is 100% fine
read http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/410
and now are you really trying to use marketing bullshit to justify a purchase? I can slap a "professional grade" sticker on a logisys, will you buy it back from me for 10x it's value then? there are people who work in marketing who just love you right now
but the most important question I want to ask is, why is it every time you post you are so determined to waste your money

what the description says isn't really what it's made of because words like "targeted at enthusiasts" have no legal meaning iirc and therefore any company can slap them on a product
I'll be getting a Phenom X4 soon, but I'm not sure what to do with my old Athlon X2?

I already linked the reviews pro. One of them wasn't as reliable, but you can't claim this one isn't.

As for the GPU, like I said - it was the cheapest at the time.
[editline]10th October 2011[/editline]
Oh, and I still fail to see how just because it's HEC it's bad? Sure, HEC may be a bad brand overall but that doesn't mean that one of their companies can't make a good product.

depends, if you have any want/need for a server put it up there as one, or use it as a spare for lan parties and such

bit tech mentions nothing about testing in real world temps/hot box
it's no good saying a PSU will act fine at 15C when it's going to fail everything at 40C
it's better than "I plugged it in it works 5*" but it's still not a proper review, especially crushed into one page of a review of that many PSUs at once
go look at something like jonnyguru for a proper review

When I tried this, Windows started doing this on startup:

I can't set up surround anymore as my 2nd graphics card is simply not being detected at all.

See above - not at all :|
Is it possible to have 2 separate computers run off the same mouse and keyboard?
I'm not gonna run the two computers simultaneously though.
I'm thinking along the lines of having some adapter that splits the USB connectors in two connectors so that I can plug it in both computers.
Quick and dumb "can my computer play this?" question.
Metro 2033, albeit a bit old now but I've heard its requires high performance. I currently game on a stock Toshiba satellite a505, graphics card nivdia geforce 310m, processor Intel core i5 cpu m430.
It runs Deus ex HR, and ME2 adequately with lower settings so I assume It's good enough, but looking at the minimum recommended card on the steam store page, and quickly comparing the 2 on some random benchmark website says otherwise.

It's called a KVM switch (keyboard, video, mouse).
And yes, they do indeed exist.
