There's always slight buzzing in my headphones when the volume is above 30% turned up. But only if the mic's also plugged in!
Quick and dumb "can my computer play this?" question. Metro 2033, albeit a bit old now but I've heard its requires high performance. I currently game on a stock Toshiba satellite a505, graphics card nivdia geforce 310m, processor Intel core i5 cpu m430. It runs Deus ex HR, and ME2 adequately with lower settings so I assume It's good enough, but looking at the minimum recommended card on the steam store page, and quickly comparing the 2 on some random benchmark website says otherwise.
I get low FPS frequently on 2033 with my 560ti and E8500 OC'd @ 3.8ghz on very high with 1600x1200, DX11 and tessellation enabled. On high with the same DX11 settings and res settings I get a constant 50-60 fps. I've noticed that the game is WAY more GPU intensive than CPU, so I'd say you'd get a pretty poopy FPS even on all low with that graphics card. Buy it anyway, 5 dollars on steam.
Can anyone suggest a good sturdy mouse? I'm a big fan of good build quality and side buttons on the mouse are essential now that I'm used to using them for push to talk. Wireless is a plus but not essential. No ricer mouses please, never ever mention Razer.
Have a look at some of Logitech's gaming mice. I'm using their G500 and it's pretty good. It's wired, though, so it might not be quite what you're looking for.
I currently have a Radeon HD 5770 1gb GPU and i wanna upgrade for BF3, What should i look into getting? preferably under 200.
Get another 5770. What's your PSU?
Something from the mic is bleeding into the headphone line.
Maybe it's a problem with the frontal USB ports on the case, I'll use the extension for the mic and go around back with it to see if that'll work.
How would i generate a strong password for stuff yet still keep it so i can remember it
Erm, just make a password and remember it? That's really all you can do, best way to do it is pick something you'd atleast sort of remember (I chose a town in Oblivion) followed by a few numbers that you'd remember, like a part of your phone number, write it down on a piece of paper and keep it in your wallet if you forget, after a week it'll be stuck in your head permanently, the likelihood of someone guessing your password, even if it's a few characters long is one in a billion, probably more, the main way people get 'hacked' (I use that term lightly because it's mis-used regularly) is they give their password away and then complain when their shit is 'hacked' or a keylogger is used (very low probability these days). I've had a stupidly short and simple password for the best part of 10 years I've used with everything and yet to have anything breached, use your common sense.

You can never be too careful haha
Ive got 5 passwords which are all related to the same thing which only I know they all relate to. I also have something I put behind the password which differs per type. (Gaming/Personal/Mail ect) Whenever I need to type in a password it has got to be one of those 5 with the extra addition which is given by the app I am using the password on.
What's the point of having USB mics and headsets? I much prefer using the actual headphone and mic jacks rather than having millions of usb devices
What's the point of having USB mics and headsets? I much prefer using the actual headphone and mic jacks rather than having millions of usb devices
Usually USB headsets have a soundcard built into the headphones, sometimes a good or bad thing depending on the headphones and what soundcard your dedicated/motherboard has, the other benefit to USB is being able to have multiple sources in the same computer and switch between them via software easily. Negatives of USB is less clear sound compared to 3.5mm jack noticeable if the headphones were high end. So really it depends on your soundcard and if you'll benefit from the USB integrated sound from the headphones.
What's the point of having USB mics and headsets? I much prefer using the actual headphone and mic jacks rather than having millions of usb devices
USB is better low end microphones, 3.5mm suck. After a certain point though it's better to have a real microphone with phantom power and all that.
If I want to secure my stuff real fucking well with TrueCrypt (and I don't care about the speed), what kind of encryption algorith should I use and how should I make the password? Is it important that I use a lot of different things like numbers, a-z, capital letters etc? Or is it more important to have as many characters as I can use and something that I can still memorize?
Why would you need something to be that secure in the first place? All you're going to put in it is passwords for your facepunch account and porn.
Oh right, mine isn't USB, it's the little ol' plugs.
Why would you need something to be that secure in the first place? I think there was this guy that probably had potential evidence against him on his usb stick, but that it was heavily encrypted with something by using Truecrypt.
Hey chaps, me and my flatmates are looking for a budget solution to our wireless problem. We have wired internet in our hall rooms but no wireless, we want to buy a device that would take just the ethernet of our current internet and broadcast it far enough for us to have a strong connection (30mb) Would any old router work or do we need an extender? needs to take 8 pin ethernet cable. Thanks.
So I have a netbook with windows 7 home premium that was upgraded from starter. I am going to format it but how would I get windows back on it? do I just install home premium and use the anytime upgrade key like I can with a regular upgrade key and use it after I install it or do I have to go from starter to home premium after?
Are there any programs that take a music file (.mp3 or .flac) and produce a graphical sound-wave type video that I can use in music uploads to youtube?
So I have thought of trying out a new media player. Right now I'm using Media Monkey. Any idea what to use? I know about winamp but is there something else I should try out that you know is better?

Otherwise maybe try Zune or Spotify. Zune by itself is actually a pretty good player in my opinion.

Never actually seen zune media player. Thanks. Edit: Easy to use, looks good. Trying to set up the sound so it sounds good right now. Many thanks for the tips.
vlc
Not the best for music imo
is there any way i can force 16xaa on my 6870
Why would you ever need 16xA unless for bragging rights?
So MPD has decided to refuse to play music, and instead spew noise that sounds like `cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp` and dialup noise having an inbred baby. Everything else sounds fine though (even the same file under mplayer on the same computer) So, two questions, for the most part mutually exclusive: - How do I fix this? - Can anyone recommend a good music player for Linux?
