You need a SATA CD/DVD-rom, I made the same mistake when I built this PC.
Or the drive has a SATA and IDE, just get a SATA cable and connect it to a port on your mobo.
Ah, ok, thanks for the quick reply. It only seem to support IDE. Not such a big deal for me though, as I never really use CD/DVD-Roms. Just thought I'd install BF3 by CD's and not digitally. Looks like I have to do it Digitally then.
Is there anything specific to look out for when replacing a power supply? I have a new one coming later today because my current one roars and vibrates. Is it just unplug, replace, replug?
I think I'm going to go with the Scythe one as it is on sale. But for adding it, should it be blowing the opposite direction as the first one, or the same direction? Because if it sends the air in the opposite direction, it blows it on the back of my GPU.
Same direction
This is something that I've always had problems with. Taking screenshots in-game.
With Steam's screenshot feature I have no problems with taking screenshots, other than the compression it uses maybe. But some games (in my case, Prince of Persia '08) the overlay doesn't work and screenshots show up as completely black. It's happened on multiple builds, currently I have an NVIDIA GTX570 (EVGA).
Is there something I need to do or is there a workaround for it?
I have a AMD phenom x II 555 black edition (3.2 ghz) and I was wondering if it would be bottle necked if i got this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127579
Someone told me that it would be bottle necked. I have no idea though.
Ugh, I got 2 Cards sepsifically for 3 monitors, Didn't work, so I got a Crossfire X Adapter, Still doesn't work, then finally got a Displayport to DVI adapter, Still Doesn't Work! What the fuck do I have to buy now!?

I had this happen to me with TF2 the other day. Took a couple screenshots and they turned out completely black. I couldn't figure out what was going on. :pwn:
I really wish Steam would just save screenshots as .PNG and compress them. They wouldn't get nasty JPEG artifacts and would still be about the same size.
All right. So I run a 5770 and I usually get about 80-90fps in TF2, but my favorite server has these stupid wrestling ads every two rounds that fuck my framerate to hell and drop it to ~20-25. This makes huntsman and really anything else impossible. Is there any way to turn off MOTD or has anyone had this ad/framerate problem before? thanks
PS: I know that ads are needed to keep servers running, not dissing that in any way
Whats the cheapest place that you get your computer parts?
Whats the cheapest place that you get your computer parts?
For Americans, Newegg is usually the best. Never just use one place, you can often find better deals if you're willing to look around.
I have a AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz and I need a good motherboard. I have this one and it is shit. http://www.gigabyte.my/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3497#ov
I prefer newegg but I don't know what would be good. I'm hoping to get a gtx 580.

in response to your first question, you may get bottlenecked, but if you unlock the other two cores (most 555s can do this) it won't be bad.
for your second one, depends on how much you want to spend on a mobo.
If price is not a problem and overkill is your thing: (All are 990FX chipset)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128508 $235
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131735 $230
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131736 $190
cheaper boards:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514 $150 (990FX)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510 $140 (990X)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131733 $125 (880G, Does not support Bulldozer!)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128519 $105 (970, No Crossfire!)
also make sure your PSU can handle a 580, you don't want to break anything.
Just wondering if it's worth going from Vista (32bit) to Win7 (64bit) and getting more RAM (currently have 3gb)
Also is it bad if the last time I defragged my harddrive was 2005?

Not really worth it, depends on the rest of your config though.
Yes, that's bad.
Is it worth getting the Nvidia 3D vision set? I've been trying Stereoscopic 3D for a while and it makes the games look a lot more realistic, I haven't used it much though because the loss in colour.
One of my friends who goes to a school to become a electrician or some shit like that has recently gotten really ego with his supposed high understanding of all things computer. You know stuff like deliberately using words me and my friends don't understand so he sounds smarter(even though I don't think he understands what he is saying himself). Now I'm no computer genius myself, but some of the stuff he keeps saying sounds incredibly bullshity. He has for example told my friend who thinks he has been DDoS'd 5 days straight even though he doesn't own any website or anything else worth DDoSing. That all he has to do is set up what he calls a "simple script" that automatically DoSes the DDoSers back. He has also said that once he gets his new computer he can use his old one as a dedicated filter against DDoS. He has also said a lot of other bullshit things I can't come up with at the moment, my question is; is any of the things he does even remotely possible or is he just being a smartass to sound smarter than he actually is? He also said he sometimes DDoS other people for a while and thinks it's funny(he doesn't have access to any botnet or anything). Completely sure that one is bullshit though.
nothing he said is true, though he may have downloaded a dos program and actually does dos his friends
if that's true, he's a fucking faggot and dosing is also illegal and a huge offense
it's also not a ddos unless he has more than 1 computer doing it at the same time
[editline]27th October 2011[/editline]
how is that even funny? does he sit there and giggle after he starts his dos program, looking at his monitor?
Alright my friend is wondering something.
His computer is really bad, and he has the chance to upgrade 1 thing.
He's got a 4670 (which doesn't draw power from the PSU, as it takes it directly from the PCI slot, so I suppose it's really bad?) and a Athlon II X2 250
He's wondering which of those two he should upgrade.
Tips?

the CPU is pretty terrible but the 4670 isn't that bad
he would notice the biggest improvement in performance by upgrading his GPU first, what PSU does he have?

I'll ask him tomorrow.

It is possible to use a computer as a DDOS shield to be fair.
If that computer has insanely high bandwidth, you could just configure it to not allow any of X type packets through.
does he sit there and giggle after he starts his dos program, looking at his monitor?
Yea that is pretty much what he said, here's a rough translation: [response to my friend asking why the DDoSers might be doing it] "That's not so weird, sometimes I DDoS random people while I sit and laugh at the problems they are having" I don't really like him, he ends up in our Skype conversations because he is the brother of one of my other friends.

which is an active process meaning not viable in the least
you'd simply be blocking his IP

As I've said I don't think he is actually doing it, he's just saying it so we will think he is some sort of tech guy or something. He does the same thing with cars for example but there he has at least a slight idea of what he is talking about.
Should I get a 64 bit windows 7 if I'm going to use this CPU? I can get either a 64 bit or 32 bit windows 7 for 8 dollars, but only one version.

cpu is fairly irrelevant, should be getting 64 bit regardless

So it's just a myth that a lot of software doesn't work on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit?

unless you're trying to run extremely old stuff, yes
Is there a good ratio of Intake to Exhaust fans on a case? I have 4 case fans currently, all 120mm. The case is a HAF 912, and I believe the top back one is exhaust right now. Should the two highest up ones be exhaust, and the lower ones be intake?
