Feel feel to critique my choices, none are ordered except the video card. My budget for the CPU, RAM, mobo, and power supply are a measly $300.
Thats pretty good, but if you can shell out the extra cash for it get the i5 2500k, also put a thread in the PC building area.
What is the overall best monitor I can get for $160 USD
1080p and HDMI would be nice, but are not needed
Good advice, but the same stuff in Canada is $1,506 D:
o shit my bad, I'll make one tomorrow
What's the best NAS enclosure on the market with USB print server support. I have a pair of SATA drives floating about and I want to pu them to good use.
Ideally as cheap as possible too. Any suggestions?
synology are good and well supported not the cheapest though, theacus are usually a bit faster but had shit firmware back when i had one (which is years ago), WHS boxes seem a good option they offer a good combination of price speed and features
check out the HP ProLiant Microserver its really cheap with cashback, just add some extra ram and buy the remote access card so you dont need a monitor to upgrade the os and access the bios
What are good sites to buy mouse mats from?
Creepy cause I thought the same thought aswell at that age. I then built a computer consisting a pentium d that ran like two P4s literally stacked on top of each other.
That's because they are two Pentium 4s on top of each other.
I got a quick question, so in my new build with 2x 580's the airflow is horrid but they won't go over 70C thank god.
But when I play games the display drivers crash, like the whole computer, first screen goes black then desktop with green and purple artifacts. I thought it was drivers first, but I have been swapping between 5 different drivers now, nothing is helping.

Remove one card and test each one individually. It's possible you might have to RMA for a faulty card since you're artifacting.
Artifacts are always a hardware problem. It happens to the old Xbox360 after a while.

'Kay, I can just disable them, no?
Also, what should I run to test them? And if there is a problem I am gonna get fucked over since I ordered them in a pack, meaning I will need to return both of them.
[editline]14th November 2011[/editline]
But here are the stages of my shitty GPU.
1. Black screen
2. Goes to desktop, looks normal, mouse is moving.
3. Few secs later everything stops and I see artifacts (Ill try to snap a photo next time)
4. Computer is useless, a restart is required.
Also something I thought was weird is that I went to sleep at a LAN, leaving my computer and when I logged in instant bluescreen.
furMark?
furMark?
Got 3Dmark vantage free with my mobo, gonna use that then.
no, use furmark
Also I have 2 HDDs, is it worth putting in RAID? I am going to record and play games.
[editline]14th November 2011[/editline]
no, use furmark
Oh, thought it was some coolio name for Futuremark :v:
If you're gonna be recording games you'll need that spare 1tb to hold the recordings.
If you're gonna be recording games you'll need that spare 1tb to hold the recordings.
Putting them in RAID won't decrease the size iirc? I use a 1TB for OS and programs, a 2TB for recordings.
RAIDing them would make one 3TB.

what?
Also I have 2 HDDs, is it worth putting in RAID? I am going to record and play games.
Depends on your needs. Personally I don't recommend RAID 0 since the performance and size gain isn't worth it considering you're sacrificing redundancy. If one drive fails then you lose all data. It's really only useful for special programs that take full advantage of this RAID config, such as Premiere Pro.
Raid 1 offers the highest redundancy with the cost of keeping storage size the same as the smallest drive used. In other words you're sacrificing the extra potential space increase for excellent redundancy. If one drive fails then you still have all your data on the other drive.
The most expensive option is RAID 1+0 which has all benefits of RAID 1 and 0. You will need 4 HDD's minimum for this.
Alternatively you could keep both drives in a non raided format. One for storing games and the operating system, and the other for recording videos to and storing large amounts of data onto.

Furmark will bring your GPU to its knees and is an excellent benchmark for it.
So I'll run FurMark on each card for some time, and check which one is the "up-fucker". If not both.

Explain what I said was wrong, it would help

unless sarcasm of course
Hmm, ran both cards @ 1920x1080 and 8X MSAA, card on top was maxing 72C and card on bottom 62C.
Ran both for about 15 min each, I have no idea what the problem might be.

#1 the speed increase can be enormous, depending on the drives used
#2 "It's really only useful for special programs" no, it's useful for anything requiring large sequential writes/reads
#3 how does raid 0 benefit premiere pro other than being able to load videos into it quicker than normal (which isn't unique to premiere) and how does it "specially" take advantage of raid
#4 what size gain
#5 you're more likely to contract aids than have an hdd fail on you
#6 you can do raid 10 with 2 hard drives (different raid 10 method than the standard

Those processors wouldn't work on that motherboard. The SR-2 motherboards require XEON processors. :v:

Anyone here own an MSI laptop with this style of hinge? It looks you could sneeze and completely snap the lid off. Are they more stable than they look?
How would you guys recommend shaving £50-100 off this build?
