what is the AMD/ATI equivalent to a GTX590?
what is the AMD/ATI equivalent to a GTX590?
6990 probably.
Athlon II X2 250 2 GB DDR3-1333 RAM 500 GB Hard Drive 700 watt power supply Ubuntu 10.10 2x ATI 6970 video cards is this good
BD drives are useless. All that you can get on BD discs are films and you can't watch those because of DRM. As for backups (if it wasn't for the Thailand floods), a 2tb hard drive is cheaper.
BD drives aren't useless They are backwards compatible with most forms of disc, and have a massive storage capability

I have £200 to spend on Amazon by August and I think it's about time I get a discrete graphics card - I was thinking about the 550 Ti which comes in at just under £100 leaving the rest for a new (or part of a new) monitor? What do you guys think? I occasionally game, and do video editing and I watch stuff.
If your max speed was 10 megabit for example and you were doing nothing except downloading something at that speed, what would happen if you'd start downloading 2 things? Would they each go about 5mbit or does it work in a different way
Unless your router is really low end and can't handle multiple connections at once, I would estimate it would be very close to simply splitting.
Considering new computer for Christmas, or at least a new graphics card. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12488565 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128412 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145263 The major components were everything from that wishlist, except I bought the motherboard in the link beneath it instead, and I months later bought an identical set of RAM to add on to the RAM on the wishlist, giving me 8 gigs instead of 4. How much would the PC as a whole be worth, with no hard drive? Or, how much would the graphics card be?
Since there is no sublime thread, this would be the best place to ask. In sublime text 2, when a file is changed and you already have the file open in a tab, that tab reloads with the changes. I know there is a setting that makes it so it doesn't do this, but I can't find it. [Editline]a[/Editline]
Something odd is going on with my video card in skyrim. With that amount of GPU usage, I should be at maximum clocks. But the card is staying at 2d speeds. My max clocks are 750/1200 Actually, at closer inspection, it appears that my clock speeds don't change at all from 400/900.
Not exactly sure how, but it has gone back to normal... for now.

How can I get .mkv files to play on my PS3? Can I convert them without a quality loss/size gain?
I'm looking to sell a computer, where would be a good place to go? I'm trying to maximize profit from it, I really need some cash.
BD drives are useless. ... can't watch those because of DRM.
Funny, My only bluray player is in my HTPC running Windows 7 64Bit. Works fine and through windows media center - I can play old HD-DVDs too.

GTX 560TI or GTX 570? I can afford the 560TI at the moment but should I save up and buy the 570? Is it worth it?
How can I get .mkv files to play on my PS3? Can I convert them without a quality loss/size gain?
You can try mkv2vob. But I've done transcoding to both mpeg-2 and x264 (normal bitrate) and in both cases the filesize have doubled. It might be just improper settings though. How are you planning to transfer it?
GTX 560TI or GTX 570? I can afford the 560TI at the moment but should I save up and buy the 570? Is it worth it?
If you don't have to save up a lot then I'd go with the 570. I'm pretty sure it has a good performance boost over the 560 Ti for the price.
Not to say the 560ti is slow, It copes with all modern games fine at 1920x1080 for me. I have the Asus Direct CUII Version and it overclocks very well. (I leave it at stock though)
Something is terribly wrong with my motherboard, recently it has victimized my DVD drive. It doesn't display in BIOS or Windows, but like once a month, it randomly appears and I hear the "USB Device Connected" sound, but after around 10 minutes, I hear the "USB Device Disconnected" sound and it disappears again. I have tried different SATA slots and different SATA cables, nothing works, the light on it displays and the eject button works, so I assume the power is working. It used to work perfectly ~4 months ago, and I bought it because the one before it broke, I think my computer for some reason hates SATA Devices, it didn't act that way before I replaced my old LGA 775 motherboard with a LGA 1155 motherboard. And about 5 months ago, it decided to annihilate my SSD and old DVD drive, what evil demons have possessed my motherboard?
Anyone know if I need to change some setting, if this is a common problem or if it's just a faulty motherboard? Obviously I need to replace the DVD too but I don't want to do that every other month.
Hey guys want opinions of some parts I'm buying. 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231461 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157231 The CPU is a 2500k I'm going to be picking up from Microcenter for $180 Planning on ordering later today if its seems good to you. Also I am replacing my old soundcard, an Audigy 2 ZS with an Asus Xonar DG. CPU cooler is a Cooler Master Hyper 212. So yay or nay?
I have 4 sticks of those G.skill sniper low voltage sticks. I love em.
If I have this motherboard... http://www.ipmart.com/my/product/GIGABYTE,Z68XP,UD3,iSSD,Socket,1155,Motherboard,314219.php?prod=314219 I do not need to get a separate sound card do I? And also, what type of speakers would be the best for me under a budget of $60?
2 Quick questions: 1) I want to upgrade my ram, i bought this when i originally built my computer, is it as simple as just buying and plugging another set in? or is there some process to make them work together. 2) Is there any real difference between "pro gaming" mouse-pads and cheaper brand pads (like Amazon basic mouse pads compared to razor or Steelseries or whatever), I'm planning on getting a new mouse-pad and if there isn't i'm probably going to go for whatever is the largest size for an okay price

You can technically mix and match but you will be forced to make the higher performing RAM stick match the lowest performing one. They must be run at the same voltage, speed and latency settings.
Hard mousepads offer more precise and smoother laser tracking with high durability at the cost of possible discomfort. Soft mouspads offer better comfort over tracking and durabilty. If you have a high quality laser mouse then getting a hard surface mousemat will be beneficial, not only that but they're easier to maintain/clean and have a much longer lifespan. If you're interested in buying hard mousepads then you don't need to buy something expensive from Razer, a SteelSeries 4HD for £14 can do great depending on your needs.
ok so I've had my current PSU for about two years, it was some $50 650W thing, no idea what brand (but not shit). If i'm upgrading should I get a new PSU just in case?
Your PSU maybe the cause. It could be supplying irregular voltage+amps causing damage to it's SATA power rail. Check 'em with a voltage meter or try a different PSU.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I changed my power supply from a 500W Corsair to a 650W XFX PSU when upgrading, guess I'll have to find a voltage meter and check it.

The PSU measures its output voltage and automatically corrects any fluctuations found.
god damn it should I get a 590 or a 6990

Even if you are using a low quality brand and nothing has gone wrong so far I still highly recommend for you to change it.
