Ok then. i5 2500k here I come
I look forward to Saturday when my motherboard gets here. I got my i5 2500k yesterday for $180+tax at Microcenter. I wish they would have had any ASRock motherboards in stock, all were sold out. I'm looking forward to my ASRock P67 Extreme6.
no, it's just the processor of the computer, I'm sure you can find a laptop in your budget that has one of the newer processors in it
I'm don't know much about this kind of stuff, but is this one that you were talking about? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215194 But when I check, it has a lower GHz compared to my previous one + costs more.
any laptop you buy under $500 is going to perform identically to any other, just buy something you think looks nice
I just updated firefox to 8.01, now it only rarely loads pages. It'll just sit there loading the page for forever, chrome works fine and so does everything else that goes on the internet. i tried all the suggestions on the Mozilla help page but none of them worked. Any suggestions?
any laptop you buy under $500 is going to perform identically to any other, just buy something you think looks nice
Then I guess I'll just stick to this one unless someone comes up and points out something glaringly wrong about it.
also firefox hangs when i try to close it, have to kill the process myself
is anybody else excited for the ivy bridge?
How long do you think the Asus G74SX will live for before dying? I already decided to order it and was just wondering about this simple question.
How long do you think the Asus G74SX will live for before dying? I already decided to order it and was just wondering about this simple question.
It shouldn't break in a very long time, if that's what you mean. It has really good cooling, bad cooling is usually why other laptops fail sooner.
So what are the chances that I can repair my Windows installation when I get my i5? Windows 7 is generally not so picky about new motherboards in my experience...
I would like to know what the biggest (size wise) and best screen I can get for under about $350 is. I plan on gaming with it and using it for basic browsing and media as well. I ran across this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824016155 But my girlfriend's sister has her Mac Mini hooked up to a 32" Sony Bravia (granted those are / were expensive as shit compared to what I'm speaking of). Would a TV suffice? I've always had good luck with Vizio, and they are very affordable. Feel free to link me or give me some insight as to whether native monitors or TV's are superior to one another when you're talking about this size range (about 27" and up). I'm currently using a 22" monitor.
you can probably get a TV for cheaper, but the max res you'll see is 1080p if you're ok with having a large pixel pitch
Is the Asus G74SX-BBK7 worth buying? I want to buy a gaming laptop for myself for Christmas and I want to know if I'm getting my money's worth. Specs: -Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor -8GB DDR3 memory -Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support -17.3" LED-backlit high-definition widescreen display -1TB hard drive -NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics etc., etc. Price: $1199.99
Holy fuck that's an AMAZING price for that laptop. [editline]24th November 2011[/editline]
How long do you think the Asus G74SX will live for before dying? Gaming laptops generally have shit battery life.
Hi again. A few days ago I posted on here regarding a new card for my computer. Turns out my Foxconn stock Motherboard doesn't support PCI express. So I have a few questions: 1) Which motherboard/PSU should I get to work with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T and (hopefully) a XFX AMD Radeon HD 6870 900M 1 GB 2) Are there any good PCI 2 cards? My folks aren't exactly excited about me buying a new mobo for my computer. Thanks!
So I'm not sure what to upgrade for Xmas. I don't know if I should swap out my Athlon 4x 3.0ghz and motherboard for a new motherboard and the i5-2500k, or if I should upgrade my GTX 460 for something better. I was hoping to get some advice here. I'm limited to a bit over $300.

Definitely motherboard/ram/processor.
So what motherboard should I get if I'm going with the i5-2500k? Any recommendations? Also RAM, I'm not sure what brands are/aren't good.

Alright, so I'm probably annoying people with me asking what power supply I should get but every time I proceed to checkout my card is declined. Yet it works perfectly in stores... So tomorrow I will be going out to my local shop in hopes of a good deal. But if I was not able to get one would a 550w antec truepower trio psu suffice temporarily for this? I was using psu calculators and most that come up only require 450-500w. 2600k/ram(undecided amount, will look at deals tomorrow but most likely 8gb)/560ti hawk It's a shame that I couldn't purchase yesterdays shellshocker. Here is the psu I currently have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371002
your current PSU is fine
your current PSU is fine
Fine as in I don't need to get something else at all?
Fine as in I don't need to get something else at all?
yes
What do I lose if I get P67 instead of Z68? On-chip video?
yeah, as well as SSD cacheing. Probably a few other things, too.
well I do plan to get an SSD eventually so I'll just futureproof. With SB and a Z68 chipset I'm pretty sure I'm set until a new PCI slot/CPU slot/RAM pin configuration is released. (And even then, I'll be good for awhile.) Should I pull the trigger on my new stuff now, or wait a few hours until actual Black Friday starts? It's on Newegg btw.
I want to upgrade but I have no idea what to get for upgrades. Any suggestions?
