This is all for a secondary/for fun PC, I only plan on spending $250 on it. If you guys have any better suggestions let me know, but the parts have to be from Micro Center or Frys since I have credit at both of those stores. Also the case has to be mATX.
Reposting.
Hey guys, just wondering what you feel is the best motherboard for SLI-ing two 560TIs. It should also support 2 sticks of 4gb DDR3 1333 RAM and an i5 2500k Intel CPU. The more room to grow afterward the better!

For value, I say go for a Gigabyte/MSI Z68, as they give you 8x lanes for the lowest price

My quick question: To overclocked 2500K owners, what's your OC and at what volts?
I'm thinking about getting myself a new motherboard (and these things that go with it) around christmastime, and I was wondering if going with these would be a good idea. Only need the motherboard, cpu and ram, everything else I have will work fine with these for now.

I'm not expecting to run tons of new games on max, mainly because my graphics card is utter shit, I just need something to replace the crap mobo and cpu i have at the moment.
Was at the bottom of the page.

And what's the best place to buy PC parts in Canada?
I am really sorry for reposting, but are those surely all the parts I need to build a pc from scratch? Are PSU's included in CoolerMaster cases/do I need to buy any extra fans?
I am really sorry for reposting, but are those surely all the parts I need to build a pc from scratch? Are PSU's included in CoolerMaster cases/do I need to buy any extra fans?
Best to get your own high quality PSU, as most cases don't come with a PSU, and even if they do, it's usually shit PSU's that get bundled.
For fans, that case comes with two. Just stick with the two (But I would fit one on the front and one at either the top or the back) and monitor the temps, then only buy extra if need be.
As for is that everything, maybe a aftermarket CPU cooler? But maybe not as it's a Sandybridge i3 (I'm basing the idea for an aftermarket cooler on the fact that the stock cooler for my non-SB i5 was total garbage).

asrock z68 extreme3 gen3
no reason to buy anything else unless you need tri or quad SLI
@everyone discussing mice, any of the intellimice and wmos are great, and give that smooth feel that all opticals do
the xai is more, I guess you could say analytic or exact than an optical, as any laser mouse is
if you can get the xai, get it, it and the g9x have the best lasers in any mouse currently, otherwise get a wmo or intellimouse
"it's worked for 5 minutes, 5* 100% 10/10"
the reason why newegg reviews and even many 'professional' reviews (up until not long ago) are useless crap
claiming it's fine says nothing about the PSU and everything about how suited you are to be recommending PSUs
[editline]30th November 2011[/editline]
asrock z68 extreme3 should be around that price
[editline]30th November 2011[/editline]
if it's still in warranty then send them a support ticket or whatever it is and they will probably send you a g500 as a replacement
I did the same, free replacement and got to keep the original, nothing to complain about
[editline]30th November 2011[/editline]
if you're referring to consumer reviews ignore them completely, as a general rule consumers are morons and have no idea what makes a product good or bad (omg has LEDs 5* 100% 10/10)
plus the way people's general mentality works is if a product meets their expectations they're happy to just carry on, but if even the slightest thing goes wrong they feel the need to complain about it to the masses
if just 2% of the stock of a product is DOA but only 5% bother to write a review (and 2% of that 5 is all of the people who got DOA products) then it's going to look far more negative than it actually is
trust is far easier to lose than to gain
Unfortunately it seems Amazon doesn't have it. I appreciate the help though.
How much should I spend on a computer for editing music and playing source games/minecraft?
How much should I spend on a computer for editing music and playing source games/minecraft?
£400 would do it; worth spending about £600-700 though.

You could get a decant laptop for that money, I know they won't last as long but I thought building your own was cheaper.
I thought building your own was cheaper.
It is in the sense that you get much better quality parts for the same amount of money.
Laptop components are less powerful than desktop ones to reduce heat and power consumption.
If you REALLY want a laptop, you might be able to get away with one with a Sandybridge processor with Intel HD 3000 graphics, though you may want one with some form of dedicated graphics.
(For reference, I get about 30 fps in Minecraft when using the Intel 3000 graphics on my Dell XPS 15, and about 70 fps using the Nvidia GT525M graphics at 1366x768)
But if you don't need the portability, then build your own desktop, seriously, it's so much better for your money than a laptop.

Not for playing games (even Source games).

I don't want a laptop, I want to build my own desktop, but the laptop I have now cost about £200 to £300 and that could play source games when it was new.

Source games seem to be getting more needy in terms of requirements.
On my HP desktop with a Pentium Dual Core and a 9500GT, it used to be able to play TF2 at about 30fps med/high settings, now it barely does 20 on low.
As for Minecraft, lets just say don't let the simple graphics fool you...

I have seen them work on much cheaper computers, even if on lower settings. What sort of price for just music editing then?
If the Windows CD/DVD installer detects a previous installation of Windows will it try to use files from it?
If the Windows CD/DVD installer detects a previous installation of Windows will it try to use files from it?
If you do an in-place upgrade install, it will (attempt) to keep your user files, but it will not reuse system files from the previous install.
A clean upgrade wont use any files from the previous install.
I'm in the market for a mousepad. I want it to be huge. Durability is all I really care about, and I'm thinking of trying a hard one instead of a soft one. I'd prefer if it was plain looking, ricer crap isn't something I like.
[editline]30th November 2011[/editline]
I have a g500, and I'm hoping for it to be on Amazon.
Your desk.
I use a Razer Goliathus mouse mat at work. It has survived 8 hours of use a day for the past year no problem. Though it is soft, not hard.
At home I just use my desk, my mouse seems fine with it and there's no movement restriction.
Yeah, I made my desk and I didn't sand it quite smooth enough. I just bought http://www.amazon.com/HandStands-Super-Mouse-Pad-15S07/dp/B000SR120M/ref=lh_ni_t because it was really cheap, I'm still accepting suggestions though.

So I just got myself some new speakers which are rather high quality I guess, the Subwoofer is huge compared to my old one!
It's a Corsair SP2500 2.1 speaker system.
Anyway my question is do you guys think it's worth buying a dedicated sound card for this speaker setup? I'm currently using the Realtek HD Audio Output built into my Motherboard. Will it be much of an improvement?

I don't see a difference between my onboard and sound card in my speakers.
[editline]30th November 2011[/editline]
A soundcard is always an improvement but you don't always need it, I do suggest spending the $30 - $50 for a decent sound card though.
fuck fuck fuck.
it is my birthday tomorrow.
I have no fucking idea on what I want. my limit is 200 euros.
please no stupid suggestions like "herp derp go buy lego"
thanks.

Alright, What if I were to simply take the sound card from my old Computer (around 2004)? It's a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2. I don't know if it will be better than the integrated sound though as it's several years old.

I have one of those, I didn't see a single difference between it and my intergrated which is about 2 - 3 years old instead of 7.
[editline]30th November 2011[/editline]
Also a soundcard will take some load off your CPU like 2% max but yea you could use it.

Is there any way to convert a WMV to animated GIF without losing quality or having it randomly cut around the middle portion?
