Planning to upgrade hopefully soonish but what do you do with an old motherboard, ram and cpu + cooler (Q6600 +4GB DDR2 ram and a P35 Asus motherboard)?

So guys, I'm planning on upgrading my PC to run BF3 on a high setting. I know the requirements aren't out yet, but I figured you guys would know at least what to expect. here are my specs: What should I keep/replace and with what? I'm pretty computer un-savvy

I'm pretty computer un-savvy
You can keep the dvd drive and the harddrive. Everything is incredibly underpowered and would run close to nothing. I'd suggest: 2500k (Don't know AMD CPU's too well.) 560 Ti/6950 2gb 2x4gb DDR3 (BF3 is going to be a really powerful game, I'd get 8gb to be safe. 4gb is pretty minimum anyways right now.) A p67 motherboard (Most are very similar) 600-650watt power supply from a good company: Seasonic, Silverstone, Coolermaster, Corsair, XFX, Antec, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling, Enermax, etc. That's plenty to run that system with some overclocks if you wanted to go with a higher power GPU or two, then I might bump it to a 750-800watt for some safety headroom. I'd expect all that to run BF3 on very good settings when it's released. But if you can wait, AMD Bulldozer is slated for released in July and will blow away SandyBridge based on all figures. But if you'd like a new system now, you can't go too wrong. Plenty of great value going around.
Cool, thanks I'll have to wait a while, I'm still saving up money. But at least now I sort of know what to go for.
I tried sending it to desktop and it was still missing the icon but the Chrome icon was on the exe file Oh well I will just reinstall chrome
I've had icons disappear before, but this fixed it: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/bea47202-d869-4155-8c8f-2a5b8bd7be1d/
I tried sending it to desktop and it was still missing the icon but the Chrome icon was on the exe file Oh well I will just reinstall chrome
just right click the shortcut and goto properties and change it, can't do it when it's pinned so move the shortcut to the desktop first then put it back when you're done.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/destroyer.html Just wondering, how good is this for the price? I think it's pretty good, but you guys probably know better than me. Although I'll probably end up getting it anyway, it's good to know. (plus the store is just a short drive away)
Why are they putting an i7 in a gaming Pc? Its unnecessary
Why are they putting an i7 in a gaming Pc? Its unnecessary
It sounds good, doesn't have to be good though.

I don't really know how, and it's my Dad's money. He wouldn't be happy with building one, despite attempts convince him, for a pre-built, is it good?
Do you know how legos work? Then you can build a computer. Anyways, I don't know about price, but the parts are pretty good, if quite a bit overkill.
Ok thanks, I'll probably end up getting it in a week friday.
Is there any way I can force YouTube videos to start in the "360" setting by default? Anything higher makes my computer unresponsive.
Is there any way I can force YouTube videos to start in the "360" setting by default? Anything higher makes my computer unresponsive.
They do..
They do..
Well, makes the browser unresponsive, but you get the point. I can't properly watch them without them being a slideshow that can't be interacted with (if I wanted to, say, close the browser window, I would not be able to).

I'm pretty sure you can change that in your account settings. For example, I have mine always use HD if available.
They start at 360p normally
They start at the highest possible setting for me. Really annoying. I have a split-second window before the video starts to turn it down or I have to kill the process.
hey look i'm not logged in and cleared any cookies for youtube and guess what:

As long as they don't disable my account again, I should be fine. [editline]e[/editline] Interesting fact, this was my 677th post and this is the first time I have ever had an automerge.
Yep, goes up to 720p
Maybe it's a browser thing? \:confused:/ I don't know what to say. I know that media tags on Facepunch always opened in 720p for me. Oh, and what was really annoying is if you click the button, it goes up instead of down. I don't know why the folks at YouTube are so cruel.
