I'm thinking about getting a Crucial M4 64GB SSD for my mom's new computer. She is currently only using like 24GB with Windows XP and Office installed should I go for the SSD or should I get a regular hard drive? The only reason I considered an SSD is the price isn't that much more then a hard drives price now
She's going to end up defragging it..
She's going to end up defragging it..
Defragging SSDs is a dumb idea.
Defragging SSDs is a dumb idea.
That's the joke.
I've got this problem in µTorrent which I haven't had before. Basically, the download peaks at my connection's maximum speed for a while before it drops to constant 10kB/s. [t]http://i.imgur.com/X1fi4.png[/t] I tried to download something from Steam but the speed never dropped. [t]http://i.imgur.com/k9v2X.png[/t] [editline]13th December 2011[/editline] Also, I'd have to close µTorrent from task manager for it to shut down properly.
So on the topic of my Christmas present that is the Crucial M4... My motherboard doesn't support SATA III, will this limit the speed of my SSD? [editline]12th December 2011[/editline]
Only if the SSD can top 3Gb/s
With a native transfer rate of 3.0 Gbit/s, and taking 8b/10b encoding into account, the maximum uncoded transfer rate is 2.4 Gbit/s (300 MB/s). It can read at 500MB/s :((( [editline]13th December 2011[/editline] Does this look like a solid upgrade?
The 4850 is better because the #850 part is high end, while the #670 on the 5670 is mid range. The first number is just the generation which doesn't really mean that much, it's the last 3 digits you need to look out for. I have a 5770 which is considered okay for gaming but it's more mid range.
Doesn't always work like that. You can't compare a 3850 to a 5770 for instance.

Plus the 2500k is only $180 there.

I have two questions about audio devices. I have an old vinyl player & stereos from the 70's. They play great and sound warmer than any of my previous speakers. I had do solder my own wire cause it was so old it used an aux jack similar to a MIDI jack. But now I want to use them and my computer speakers together to make a 4-channel speaker set. The problem is, my computer speakers use USB and I can't choose them in Realtek HD Audio control panel. My second problem is, that I want to connect the line out from my guitar effects pedal straight to my computer so that it plays straight everything. But when I connect it, and set the jack as "line in", it doesn't play it. It did on my previous computer. So what's wrong?

You cannot easily connect the stereo set to it if it does not have an audio output. Even if you could you would probably have latency issues. Next to that, music is supposed to be listened to in stereo fro the front so having more speakers is useless. The easiest thing to do is to buy something like a cheap Line6 toneport GX and use that to connect your guitar directly to your pc via USB.

I do the recording trough USB or digital output, but now I just want to play directly the line in jack, which is pretty much delayless cause there is no processing involved. I did this with my old computer so that I could play guitar and backing tracks trough the same speaker set and there was no delay even when the computer had an integrated sound card on a 40€ motherboard. And I want the 4-channel system for gaming. I don't want to connect the stereo set straight to my computer speakers, I just want to be able to choose the USB speakers as my front speakers, which I cannot do because currently my sound card only recognizes devices that are connected straight to it by audio jack or digital spdif.

Can I setup a WLAN without a router? Like, just with a computer which has a wireless adapter and then some components connected to a wireless bridge? Or would I need a wireless router? [editline]13th December 2011[/editline] I don't need to connect to the internet, just need to send data over the network. [editline]13th December 2011[/editline] okay I just found out about how to do an 'ad-hoc' setup, here's my setup: Laptop*******************wireless bridge------------< ip webcam + arduino PCB **** is wireless ------ is ethernet cable I'll need to send the video feed from the webcam to the computer, and send some basic signals from the computer to wireless bridge to tell the arduino PCB to do stuff. Will this work?
Ok I've been researching about the stupid page file and I shouldn't remove it, but I still don't understand why my computer lags at all when reading from/writing to it when it's on another completely unused HDD. BF3 shouldn't stutter when the pagefile on another HDD is being used. And yes, I have checked and I have had RAM available so it's not just clearing some RAM out for BF3 or something like that.

Isnt the pagefile only being used for stuff when your RAM is full or you only need very little acces to the data there?
i just disabled the pagefile because fuck it's useless when i have 8gb of ram and never use more than 6gb

This is important because your OS and the partition it's on still needs some pagefile space (at least 1024MB) for minidumps and the likes despite your extra hard drive. If you also don't have pagefiling on your OS partition then Windows will create a pagefile.sys the same size as your physical installed RAM on it. [editline]13th December 2011[/editline]
i just disabled the pagefile because fuck it's useless when i have 8gb of ram and never use more than 6gb
Well doing that will basically create a pagefile.sys the same size as your current physically installed RAM on the drive the OS is installed on. Certain programs also won't be able to run because it requires pagefiling.

Finally built the computer. Only one problem though. Would anyone know why every audio device I plug into the integrated audio ports, and case audio ports(headphones, speakers etc) make this buzzing/interference sound?
probably because it has interference
But what would be causing that? They aren't wireless.
Figured I should post this here for help. My icons on my desktop used to be fine the size they were at. Somewhere down the line I resized them. Changed them back later but now some of them have borders around them. I've searched everywhere to try and find out how to get rid of them but haven't found anything helpful.
