I'd take a stick of RAM out and write the timings, speed, and voltage down (timings should be numbers like 9-9-9-28 and voltage should be around 1.5v, speed will bee 1066-1600 most likely) get those and then go into your BIOS and look for RAM / DRAM settings and set the numbers there. The most important thing is probably the voltage, if it's not set to high enough it could be causing errors, that or the speed or timings could be set to high. You could probably put the voltage up .1 or .05 extra volts to maybe make it more stable, or set the speed lower / timings a little higher than what they're meant to be. That, or just RMA them.
I did this, now when my computer starts up it freezes on the motherboard screen, or whatever it's called.
whenever I attempt to pack/crypt a file i get this how can I fix this
I could really use some help with this
on an unrelated note, what was the name of that application, with what you could block everybody elses internet connecting, provided, that they are on the same network? also my current computer has a 240W PSU. my new one will have 700W.
that's all the info I have...
No, you have more information. For instance: - What the fuck is "crypting"? - What files exactly are you trying to "crypt"? - What program are you trying to use to "crypt" things? - Why are you trying to "crypt" things?
No, you have more information. For instance: - What the fuck is "crypting"? - What files exactly are you trying to "crypt"? - What program are you trying to use to "crypt" things? - Why are you trying to "crypt" things?
that information is not exactly relevant, because If you do not know what it is, how can you help me. anyway, a file crypter/packer makes the files un-modifiable as well as shrinking them substantially.

Great, now my computer is just powercycling.

I filed an RMA on one of my RAM sticks, the other is running Windows (hopefully) fine. Thank you so much for your help, and sorry for taking up so many posts in this thread :P I'll get back if anything doesn't go according to plan!
Can a 500 watt corsair psu support my i7 920 and HD 5770, and 6gb of ram? Thanks in advance.
http://forum.overclock3d.net/index.php?/topic/39842-2500k-overclock/ Help. OC3D thread is slow and the Overclock.net thread I made (linked in OC3D thread) had some tips/help but nothing seems to be doing the trick. If you're wondering why I own an ECS board, it was free with my 2500k.
Reposting.
How do I make an IRC server/channel? I don't want to use a service unless I have to. If anyone has any non-boring tutorials those are appreciated.
Can a 500 watt corsair psu support my i7 920 and HD 5770, and 6gb of ram? Thanks in advance.
Very easily.
If I were to be running a server that's hardwired to the cable, and if people in my house decide to suddenly torrent shitloads of files over wi-fi, would it slow the server's connection down noticeably?
Yes as they're both using the same connection, one is just wired while the other is not, although there should be a way to throttle your wireless connection via your router or I believe there's software for it if you can't.
can a 700W one support a 580/590 and an i7 2600K?
Ye.
can a 700W one support a 580/590 and an i7 2600K?
depends on the specific PSU and whether it's actually 700w or if it will explode at 400W
Hello there, I bought a new graphic card (nvidia GTX 560) to replace my old 9800GT and, though I'm quite satisfied with it so far, it appears my power supply isn't, well, powerful enough to hold on when I play most of my games at max settings. The precise setting that appears to force my whole computer to shut down so it doesn't suddenly catch fire is the Anti Aliasing. So here is my question, do you think it's worth replacing my power supply to play my games at full setting or can I just ignore anti aliasing/is it not worth the price of a new powerful enough power supply ? [editline]18th December 2011[/editline] And because I'm such a dumb hardware illiterate fuck, any affordable power supply I could buy given I have to change it ?
Well if AA is pushing it over the edge, that suggests the power supply is already very close to its limit. I would replace it just to have some headroom further down the line and the safety of the components. That is, of course, assuming you are correct and it is indeed the power supply.

But the graphic card already has some native Anti Aliasing (I should probably disable it though), so my guess is when I turn the game's AA on it's too much and the whole thing shuts down. I'm sure it's the AA that causes problem but not sure if it's the Graphic Card, though there was 2 months between when we changed the thermal paste and when we changed the graphic card, and I had no problems until we changed the card. For instance yesterday I played Far Cry 2 with every setting set at very high except the AA which was disabled. Was able to play 5 hours before being bored and quitting. Today, launched the game, set the AA to the maximum, was able to play 5 minutes before eventual shutdown.
jesus christ, my internet is slow as fuck what could be causing this?
Jealous as fudgecicles. Damn Australia's (mainly Perth's) internet. I'm in the states capital and I can't even get decent internet. [editline]18th December 2011[/editline] also that slower than 80% thing is a lie the only good internet I know in the city is in the CBD.
It's been bugging me that I sometimes can't reach Facepunch for whatever reason. I'm unable to ping to the forums. Other sites work fine. Checked my DNS settings and they seem okay. Any advice?

I dunno if this should be in mapping, but I can't use hammer. When I place a camera or do anything, it crashes. I think I don't hae enough RAM to run it.
I have a headset and the microphone was working well before, except I recently unplugged it temporarily, and when I put it back in, it doesn't work. I can see that the computer recognizes that I have it plugged it but it doesn't pick up any sound when I speak. Here you can see that it knows the microphone is in: Can you help me out?
I can't get proper readings from my CPU fan, It shows it spins at 20,000 RPM or 57,000 RPM. And i can't control its speed either, is it broke? It shows up as 700 minimum RPM , but on the store it said 900 - 2500 RPM.
