Is there any reason a sound card from an older computer shouldn't fit into a new case?
fit? if it's PCI it should fit, if that's what you mean. The bracket may be a tight fit and you can always bend it a little to ease it along if it's hitting the motherboard or something.

im confused, what's not fitting? is it not PCI, but some other connection?
So I took my 7900s out since my 570 is coming tomo. I am using the i5's integrated graphics- but lets say I left it plugged into the mobo and put the cards back in. Would this boost performance without removing DX10 support?

no, and I was really confused because I thought you were talking about 7900 ATI series, you know you need to upgrade your GPU when there's a new one out with the same name again.
What's a good software for splitting a video file in to separate video files? I'm trying to upload a long video on youtube and I need to split the video into parts.

I procrastinated a bit
Okay, I feel a bit dumb for asking, but I'm about to format Windows for about the hundredth time in my life. I want a clean install, and I want optimum organization so I don't feel obliged to format 3 months down the road. I'm pretty much getting rid of everything, music, games, docs. Everything but my Photography. I'm going to redownload it all.
I guess all I'm asking is how to keep an install clean? I feel like I fill up my system with so much junk to the point that it's overwhelming to go into my downloads folder / documents and try to clear out and determine good from bad and useless files.
Also, does it piss anyone else off that games started keeping their saves and settings in your my documents folder by default / mandatory? I guess I'm a bit OCD about the files and clutter that relentlessly ends up in my main folders. I'm also tired of opening my fucking C:/ drive to see AMD, ATI, and nVidia folders doing shit in there. Why not just go under program files?!

Stop downloading every last thing you see.
Partition your drive, or use an entire drive, just for your documents and add it to the library feature Windows 7 has.
Don't dump everything onto your desktop.
Stop downloading every last thing you see.
Defrag Often.
Every now and then go through the uninstall list and and uninstall anything you haven't used for a month. (Let's face it we all install a program or two we needed ONCE :v:)
Stop downloading every last thing you see.
Really though, you just need to be strict with a folder structure that works for you. Don't fall into the "Next > Next > Next > I Agree > Next > Finish" Trap.
i learned the whole "everything goes on desktop" thing from my dad. i want to break that habit
-snip-
nothing to see here!
I asked a dumb question
Am I being too optimistic when hoping for a GTX 570 to go cheaper than 320?
Or should I just go ahead and nab one of these?

No, I don't really do a lot of that stuff, on many installers I read through the check boxes and file paths and fine tune it to a path that is out of the way. I defrag my computer about once a week and clean my registry and temporary files almost daily. I don't keep "too" much on my desktop, but sometimes I'll throw a file There and it will stay. I don't really know what I'm whining about to be honest. I just wish Windows could run and look and feel as good as it does at a fresh install all the time. Oh well! Haha

Get your install done, install drivers and a browser, and in-fucking-mediately make an image of your drive with norton ghost to save somewhere. It'll save you loads of time when you need to reinstall.
Get this thing: http://www.glarysoft.com/products/utilities/absolute-uninstaller/ and check it once a month or so.
Organize your downloads folder often and as soon as you download a picture, put it in "my pictures" and do the same with all other kinds of files, it's much easier than sorting through a folder with 1000 items later down the road.

Thanks for the info man, definitely will get Norton Ghost. I've used Glary Utilities before, but I usually use Auslogics BoostSpeed, it seems to do well. I don't really like it messing with the services on my machine. I should just get a legit version of Glary Utilities.

Is there any way to increase the video RAM of my video card without destroying it?
Right now I'm getting a little less than 800 MBs of video RAM, but the page says it has 1 Gb. Help.
Here's my card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131378
6870s have a known issue of not displaying full video ram.
Don't worry you're getting 1gb.
What's the best cooler for a 2500k? Size nor price doesn't matter, and I'm not interested in watercooling unless it's closed loop. I've heard you can get it to 5.0ghz on air, what coolers are the best for clocks this high?
Plus I've heard the Kuhler and H80 type coolers are utter marketing bullshit by some FP members, is this true?
Noctua NH-C14 or Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme

You could probably torrent it, it's totally legal as long as you actually purchased the key and it's not cracked ya know.

I could never actually find a torrent that WORKED for windows 7 though. Would the easiest route just be to download win XP and run it off a virtual machine?
Does anyone have an idea on how I might add a simple to do list to rainmeter?
What must I do to enable SSD TRIM in Windows?

If you're planning on doing reinstalls every once in a while, make a preset one, and make a folder for installations, for things like browsers, contact apps so on so forth.
For music and stuff, sort things into genres/artists so you know what you need.
Make an extracting folder with ~5 sub folders, more useful than you might think it is.
And really, remove as much stuff from launching @ startup as possible, it can be veeery benificial.

This one is pretty handy: http://customize.org/rainmeter/skins/80146
What must I do to enable SSD TRIM in Windows?
Windows should detect the SSD and enable it automatically. There's a command you type into CMD to check if it's active, just google it.

My mother is looking for a decent laptop that is under $450. I know, kind of a low budget if a decent laptop is needed. (I think.) She also prefers to buy off Amazon, so yeah. Any help would be appreciated. :v:
