I have a laptop with XP Pro on it. To be quite frank, I'm paranoid as hell. I want my computer to lock after an amount of time. The computers at school do this, and before it happens a command prompt box appears and runs some script that locks the computer. Any ideas?
When you tinker with IP configurations for one computer with 1< connected to the same router does it change for them all?
Does higher hertz require more resources from the computer?
Say, I'm on 60 hertz right now, will changing it to 120 make a notificable difference on fps in games and such? (I have a 120hertz monitor, I'm ordering a compatible HDMI cable for it)

It won't change the fps you get in games, I think it'll just reduce flickering if you have any. It doesn't require more resources from your PC since the refresh rate is controlled by the monitor.
Oh and how can you change a static IP?

What exactly are you wanting to change?
Oh and how can you change a static IP?
There should be an option somewhere to change from dynamic IP to a static IP, next to it (I imagine) there will be somewhere where you can enter one you want. What kind of router do you have?

I'm not sure, I would just like my IP to be different; the ones that sites see.
Linksys WRT110 iirc.

it's the number of times it's refreshing the display per second
no performance drop in games at all, in fact the opposite because you will be able to display more than 60 FPS

Actually you can choose a static IP within windows, or through some settings menu with your router. Out of curiosity, I wonder what would happen if you defined 2 different static IPs: one in windows and one in some router settings...

Which is why I was sneaky and said 'if you have any' :ninja:

you can't, you'll have to call your ISP and pay for a static IP (they cost $2-15 a month in my experience, if they aren't included) or use a service like dyndns

That's for the local network silly!
he wants his external IP changed in which case you need to look around in your router
sorry I totally misread that, still calling your ISP is your only option. Ask for a new IP.

or use a proxy

How long is the supposed wait for the 7xxx series of AMD cards? And, do you think the top of the line single processing unit card will be within the range of $300-$400?
[editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
Also, should I wait or just go with the 6970 within the next week.
ok, so I start the computer, windows loads, goes to the welcome screen, makes it to the desktop for a few seconds, then crashes and reboots (same story with safe mode)
any ideas on what could be wrong? RAM isn't the problem, I already checked that

specs plx
might be a unlocked core being faulty (core unlockers are enabled by default on some boards)
might be an unstable OC

try giving a bit more voltage? who knows, maybe run something like Prime95 in some linux distro to see if it's that, because that would always happen to me with a bad OC.

repost since it was at the bottom of the page... I'm really needing an answer, I couldn't find anything at all on tomshardware (searching through google) about the 7xxx series. If we can't find anything on that, I'll look around GTX 6xx series.
When I left, the GTX295 was the top of the line and the 5970 was on par with it at a lower power consumption. I missed computer nerdgasming.

I don't know why you even have to ask, it's great.

So have I, all I know is that the new generation of ix processors from intel is better than the i7 9xx's.
Your computer is top notch though, I dunno about the GPU, it can still handle todays games.

On another note, I need help. I've got some parts from my old computer, and I would like to either sell them, or use them for something.
I've got an MS-9803, and I'm trying to start it up using this power supply: http://www.northq.com/products/powersupply/nq4350GP-FL.html
Problem is, shorting the PWR_SW- and PWR_SW+ doesn't do jackshit, and it annoys me. The RAM isn't plugged into the motherboard, and essetially, I haven't got anything connected to it, other than the CPU, so I can't see what could be wrong.
This is the motherboard manual: http://www.logicsupply.com/media/manuals/E_9803v1.2.pdf
It's a possibility that I fucked it up when I removed it from my old case, but I don't think so, as I didn't fuck the much larger, and thus much more cumbersome, motherboard up. I'm thinking about clearing the CMOS, but I'm not quite sure how to do it, as the explanation in the manual boggles me a bit. I don't get any response from the motherboard, when I short the "power" pins, and I've tried both a screwdriver, and a paper clip.
