My hard drive started making a strange noise when loading some games or when the main/pause menu. This only happens in all the STALKER games, Mafia II, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Borderlands, and Doom 3. You might have to turn up the volume to hear it, my iPhone recorded it weird.
This is the hard drive I'm using, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148701
That's not good at all. I'd buy a backup drive right now and not use that computer until it arrives.
It's a secondary drive, the main one is fine. Any idea what's causing this though? It's still under warranty and stuff.
I don't know but my laptop did that and the next day the hard drive was dead with all my music, photos, etc on it.
It's been like this for about maybe 4 months, only now has it gotten excessively loud.
I'm running a dedicated server, though I've hit a problem. My IP (not a 192.168.2.1 variant) keeps changing. I have no idea why this is, and it's getting frustrating because the IP I gave out to people when it started up a couple of days ago keeps changing every time I turn my computer off, meaning they can't connect. So does anyone know how to stop this from happening?
Use dyndns. You have to install an updater on your computer to update the ip, and you have to get a domain at them. It's free if you use the "namehere".dyndns.org format though.

Would it be worth it if I put 2 HDD's in RAID0, and have another HDD as my OS, and run my games/music/videos off the drives in RAID? What would the performance be like?

it would probably end up being something close to twice the speed in terms of loading times
it would probably end up being something close to twice the speed in terms of loading times
Whilst it may be faster, the possibility of data lose is also doubled as if one harddrive fails, the data on the second is useless.
But that's what I have an external drive for, backups.
Why is it that games/programs seem to think my graphics card is shit/fail to detect it?
For example, when I tried to load up GTA IV for the first time today, it fucked itself and didn't load any textures. I came to find out that this is because the draw distance was automatically set to the minimum, which is in turn because the game only recognizes that I have 59 megabytes of fucking resources available.
For the record, I have an Asus N53S, which means I'm running a GeForce 540M Cuda, with 1GB of dedicated memory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Discovered that the reason behind this is that the game detects my integrated Intel video card before my GeForce. Still, I don't know how to fix this. Help?

Grab the integrated chip with some plyers and start pulling.
Anyone have any experience with hMailServer?
On my server, port 25 is open, sending mail from the server itself works, but can't send any through Thunderbird (from my own PC). It just comes up with an error message about being unable to connect to the SMTP server. That specific error is listed in hMailServer's manual as the error that comes up when the email client settings are incorrect. I've checked those multiple times, plus it works with another port, but then all other mail functions fail (due to a non-standard SMTP port).
I can, however, fetch mail. Ports 25 (TCP) and 110 (TCP) (for SMTP and POP3) are opened in the server's firewall and are not blocked by the ISP.
I have tried disabling my own firewall, too, but that didn't help. The server is not in the same local network as I am.
Any help would be appreciated!
Oh, and, I can telnet to the server through port 25.
EDIT: Solved it. Apparently, the other mail servers I've been using have been through SSL (Port 465, I think) or an alternative port. My ISP seems to be blocking the port 25, and using an alternative one for sending (but still keeping 25 there, too) works wonderfully.

Not sure if trolling.
Anyway, the dedicated card relies on the integrated one to work, it seems.

you can just turn on -nolimit or something, I don't remember the command exactly. just look up vram limit for gta4 to see the command for it
Installed a new 560 ti (upgrade from 260), and the screen looks blurry. I did some googling and wound up with this guide. Only problem is Phoenix can't find my monitor's EDID.
I got two new hardrives, one 111 gigs, and the other is 250 gigs, what should I do with them?
What is the worst thing that could happen to my unit when I plug in my old HD in an attempt to format it for backup space (in addition to my primary HD I am running off of now)? To the best of my knowledge it still has XP and a host of other things installed on it.
Is the My Book Essential WDBACW0030HBK 3 TB a considerable external drive?
I've read equal amounts of horror stories and fairy tales about this drive. Any word on this?
So I bought the Zalman mic-1 as people advised me to but it's really fucking quiet, so quiet I have to max out the microphone boost in windows to make it sound normal, at which point it's accompanied by hideous amounts of noise.
I remember reading all over the place that it picks up sounds in other rooms and shit, I can barely make it pick up my voice when it's centimeters from my face.
It's plugged into the back, the sound circuit is Realtek ALC889 and I have spent the past week scouring every single setting and slider and everything is maxed out.
Am I doing something wrong? Is something broken? Would this be fixed with a good sound card? If so, what sound card?
Is thisa good build? Everything compatible and whatnot? Also, would I be better with my current processor or with a Sandy Bridge i5? I'd just upgrade to i7 but I'm on a budget.
Can you get 5.1 audio with HDMI?
If not, how can I get it connecting the DVD/TV to the computer?
Someone help?
Can you get 5.1 audio with HDMI?

I can get 5.1 through HDMI on my 5770
I have the HDMI cable connected to the TV, and I have an optical cable going from my TV to a receiver
But I think if you have a fairly new receiver, you'll be able to plug in your HDMI cable to the receiver, and have another one go from your receiver to your TV
Is Nvidia's Optimus programming always absolute shit?
yes
I figured out that the problem is the fucker will NOT switch to the dedicated card, even if I set it specifically to do so.
[editline]14th July 2011[/editline]
Well I'll be. I went into the device manager, disabled the Nvidia card, and then it started working.
Hunk of shit :v:
Another question!
I've a subdomain which I want to direct to an address, but with a folder.
So like:
sub.domain.com redirects over to 127.0.0.1/folder
How do I do this?
Directing to only the address is simple, but it won't let me put in /folder with a Simple DNS Zone Editor ):
Anyone?
I've been suffering with an HP Pavilion Elite 210f for almost a year now because I didn't have the choice at the time to build my own computer.
The CPU and such is great, but I'm stuck with a Radeon HD 5450. I don't like it.
So yesterday was my birthday, and mom says if I can find a GPU and PSU, she'll get it for me.
But to upgrade it, I need a new PSU because my current is only 300 fucking watts.
Here's my current specs...

Budget is $300 US
Mom wants to buy from Newegg to get points
