Well this shit doesn't look legit at all. I had Windows Automatic Update turned off for long while, and just decided to turn it back on (this is how long) and this is part of the many, many updates it wants me to apply. The fuck is this shit?
It's legit. I don't know if it actually does anything though.
Can I use my father's laptop as a thing so that my desktop compy can connect to my wi-fi internet?
what would you change [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] already got HDDs
what would you change [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] already got HDDs
You're spending a bit too much on the PSU in my opinion, check out the XFX ones, they're nice and cheap. See if you can bump the GPU to a 6950/GTX 560 Ti (Take whichever is cheapest, really).
Is an AMD Turion Processor good for gaming, streaming, and video editing?
Is an AMD Turion Processor good for gaming, streaming, and video editing?
no, not really, pretty sure they're low-mid mobile cpu
what would you change [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] already got HDDs
try to get an AM3+ mobo with 8x/8x PCI-E slots so there's no chance of you being completely unable to upgrade to bulldozer, something like a GA-990XA-UD3 or M5A99X EVO don't bother with an 80+ gold PSU, try to get either the partially modular XFX 750W or the fully modular silverstone strider+ 750W there may also be cheaper RAM, pretty much anything 1333Mhz or 1600Mhz will be fine
What brand of CPU fans are good? the stock fan for my CPU is LOUD AS FUCK

http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=638762 AM3+ mobo if this is only for gaming you can switch to 4GB RAM and see no difference
Say I want to clean my heat sink of my XFX HD6970, how does one get the cover off the card? If someone could point me to a guide that would be nice.
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=638762 AM3+ mobo if this is only for gaming you can switch to 4GB RAM and see no difference
okay so final check before uh checkout

I'll get two of those then.
A friend(who is quite experienced with computers) accidentally put the wrong drive into a RAID array. Are all of his files completely erased, or could he use something like Recuva to save some of them? [editline]7th August 2011[/editline]
I'll get two of those then.
You might as well get a single 2x4GB kit.
Steelseries make some quality products but $100 for a very basic mouse? Fuck that shit, get a G400. Also what headphones you got Big ben? I trust you know your shit, but no point getting a good quality sound card if you have a logitech 18.1 supra mega lotsa speakers gamen headset.
uh xai is not a basic mouse, in fact it has a shitload more features than any other and tracks better than any other [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] protip: don't come to facepunch for hardware advice, or any advice for that matter
I'll get two of those then.
if you're doing something like rendering or video editing that you know will definitely use >4GB then get http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=599037 there's no point getting 8GB when you won't even use 4 it's just wasted money
Can I use my father's laptop as a thing so that my desktop compy can connect to my wi-fi internet?
Yes; on Windows you can just bridge the laptop's wifi card with the laptop's ethernet port and then connect the desktop to the laptop via ethernet cable. I haven't successfully done this on Linux, but I only spent ten minutes looking on the Internet for a solution. The laptop has to remain on for this to work. [editline]August 7 2011[/editline]
A friend(who is quite experienced with computers) accidentally put the wrong drive into a RAID array. Are all of his files completely erased, or could he use something like Recuva to save some of them?
It's my understanding that as long as the files haven't been physically overwritten they can be recovered, but if partitions and filesystems are screwed up I've heard that it can be quite difficult. [editline]7th August 2011[/editline]
there's no point getting 4GB when you can now get 8GB for a measly $60 and you'll regret not doing it in the future
ftfy

[editline]7th August 2011[/editline] You might as well get a single 2x4GB kit.
Depends, if it was raid0 he's fucked no exceptions. If it was raid1 then it should be recoverable, I don't know about raid 5 or 10.
Hi, I recently OC'd my i5 2500k to 4.2 GHz. It runs fine and all but I'm really not seeing a notable improvement in games and programs, so I've decided to set it back to the factory setting of 3.3 GHz. But there's a problem: The CPU Ratio is now permanently greyed out for some reason and I can't fin a way to adjust it. It's how I OC'd it in the first place so I can't for the life of me figure this out. Any ideas? [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] Well, it just sort of fixed itself. Nevermind. I probably shouldn't be OC'ing because I really have no idea what I'm doing.
Which is worse for a desktop computer: Turning it on every day and off every night, or just leaving it running all the time?
What's bad about shutting down then starting it up when you use it? It takes like 40 seconds to start up, so unless you're impatient as fuck you'll be fine..
I seem to remember something about Windows getting silly if it doesn't get a restart once in a while but as far as I know neither one is particularly damaging.
What's bad about shutting down then starting it up when you use it? It takes like 40 seconds to start up, so unless you're impatient as fuck you'll be fine..
I was wondering if it wore it out faster or something.
Maybe the paint on the power button but that's about it.
