Program Files Program Files (x86) Why not the other way around? Seriously. I mean, no offense, it does make sense that the 64-bit folder has no special name since it is to be the default folder from now on, but what if someone made a program where the folder is hardcoded? Sure, it's not common, and I sure as hell haven't ran into such a problem, but it must happen in some special cases.

My friend was swapping out PSU's, and he connected two different power connectors to the same drive at the same time. A SATA power connector, and one of those small, 4 pin disk drive connectors like in this image (the ones circled in red) Now the drive won't spin up. I'm assuming it's dead, yes?
why would he do that, and yes probably
why would he do that, and yes probably
Doesn't know much about computers. I've been busy the last few days and wasn't able to help him. Then he got impatient and tried to do it himself.
Best Editing program for simple editing?

What is a good network management program? I have a wireless network and I would love to be able to see which of my gadgets/friends are connected at any given time.
I just got an HTC Trophy. Should I post a thread with a review of it?
Would it be a good idea to buy all the parts for my new computer from one retailer, or would it be better to split it between two retailers to get the best price for all the parts? Also, would the HP 2310E be a good monitor for gaming, or are there better monitors for a similar price?
How would I go about encoding, passwording and hiding a folder?
you use 7z and put a password on it but the first step is to not look at my little pony porn in the first place
you use 7z and put a password on it but the first step is to not look at my little pony porn in the first place
Why would I look at cartoon horse sex. My PC won't recognize my Xbox and PS3, and vice versa. I want to stream media and have the settings enabled.

I'm assuming it's dead, yes?
What shadaez said, he probably plugged the floppy power cable where the jumpers is supposed to go. The good news is that none of the data on the drive should be gone, what happened in all likelihood is that the circuit board fried which I'd bet is covered by the warranty (as long as you don't say how it happened) or if the warranty is out, if you manage to find a hard drive with the exact identical part number, not serial (serial numbers are unique) or model number, but matching part number and put the working circuit board from the working drive onto the bricked drive you can save whatever data was on it and the drive should work like new. Exchanging circuit boards isn't hard, it's just a few screws and possibly a cable going to the motor.
So I have literally tried everything to prevent these Crashes I have been having, I started having random crashes where the computer will freeze and audio will loop, Now I have had these crashes sense mid 2010 and at that time I had my Core 2 Setup but now with a completely new system minus power supply, Fans, and my optical drive. So I thought it would be a good idea to remove each of the older parts one by one to see if I could find the problem but no dice. Still had crashes with a different PSU and Disk drive, I never switched out the fans because I mean really could it be the fans? Here is a picture of the Error (from Event Viewer) Same error over 163 times [thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/12315.png[/thumb] Sometimes it will Blue screen and sometimes it will just freeze and have an audio loop Now these crashes happen at any time when either browsing the Internet, listening to music, or playing games I have done everything I can possibly do for I all I know. [editline] August 5th 2011[/editline] Shit I forgot to mention I even Updated my BIOS
So at last I thought I had won the the war against these computer crashes but then this Turned into this I have read up on the problem and tried everything that people have done to fix it but no dice If anyone has any ideas to help me fix these crashes please send them my way.

[editline]9th August 2011[/editline] if that's what's causing it I mean, haven't really followed your posts.

Out of curiosity, is there something like POSIX for hardware, so that someone could take a soldering gun and make a motherboard out of a bunch of IC's and plug Pentium 4 in there?
I had a dedicated sound card and I still had the crashes then And all you really need to look at for the details is the main post that I quoted
Well, if as you say it's not hardware related (since it happened on a new pc) then it must be software, something you install. Does it happen on a completely and utterly clean windows install?
Never really was able to tell because when I reformat I put all my usual stuff on that day.
Well if you wanna get rid of the crashing you should try it. if/when you're confident it doesn't crash on a clean install, start installing shit slowly, making system restore points between each install until you find the culprit. If it does crash on a clean install, get a new windows disk.

Shipping costs, too, you know.

Their drivers conflict with a lot of things (Nvidia's drivers for one.)
-nevermind fixed it through audio verification-
Does anyone know of a free and simple GIF maker I can use? I can't install Photoshop on this computer because it lacks a disc drive and I don't know how to use GIMP well enough yet. Plus I dunno if it can do animating...
